My old MTD was the same. It looked like this one without the rust.My only complaint with this one when dealing with wet snow is the bottom of the intake. Most brands have adopted the same approach, leaving it open, with the lower lip moved well back behind the auger. In my old one the lower edge was further forward, which helped scrape and scoop the nasty wet stuff. But since they are all the same now I had no real options, and Ariens are absolute tanks.
Just a bear and could handle anything including frozen snowplow pack with ease. The new one is entirely adequate, but I suspect it could be overwhelmed in the right conditions.
I agree about the scraper edge. I'm still adjusting the new one to get it just right.
