OT: Brandon Austin suspended for season

A consensus top 50 player was a "fall back" recruit? I love revisionist history. So the boneyard monitors the signing day announcement and blows up for a week over fall back recruits?
He was a fall back recruit. Once UConn dropped out of the XRM race which now looks to be due to grades they started going after Austin when he de committed from Penn State.

This is the Boneyard. 95% of the people are crazy and so are you. We had 30 ten page threads about a recruit we were after for a couple weeks. "Kasongo Commits to Oregon" "What is Kasongoing?" "Kasongo Kasongoes Oregon"

If you expect to get respect from fans of another team when your team hasn't been good in however many years and you make idiotic statements your on the wrong board. I don't even understand why you continually come over here.

Deal with that Sean!!! After XRM choose Fla. UConn went after Austin. UConn probably would've gotten Austin if Ollie wasn't on a 7 month contract.
Bottom line...nobody has him...UConn doesn't need him....PC does...

I must admit Cooley is at least trying to turn around the ship. Too bad its an ocean liner in a bathtub. Anyway he at least is not putting players in front of the team, at any cost. I respect that considering the desperate situation at that school.

That's my new favorite simile. I'm going to use it whenever possible.

If I remember correctly didn't Joseph Young also originally commit to PC? It would be pretty funny to see Oregon play PC in one of their obscure November tournaments and get owned by Young, Austin and of course Kasongo!!

Not "owned" nyc you meant to say "Kasongo'd"

So, what the heck did this kid do at PC to get suspended? There was a second player suspended with Austin. What's his status?

Based on what PC fans are posting, he either raped a kennel full of puppies or helped a little old lady across the street.

They are so irrelevant the one writer who covers PC can't get the story!! LOL……..the horde would have had the kid crucified and on ESPN by now…….

Here's an odd APR question. If the school doesn't toss you out for a violation (expelled players are not counted against your APR) but you elect to transfer on your own (in which case you do count against the APR), then can the school apply for a waiver because of the violation that you committed?

Seems to me that he should now count against PC's APR, and that PC may have made a mistake (as far as the APR is concerned) by suspending him instead of expelling him.

Last I knew, PC needs an APR score of around 950, this spring, in order to be eligible for the 2015 tourney. If they don't make the tourney this year, and, are ineligible in 2015 it could be devastating for that program.

PC doesn't make the tournament, so I doubt being ineligible for it will make them any worse off.

PC is dangerously close to being banned for APR if not 2015 then 2016. Cooley is doing a bang up job both on and off the court. He needs stop focusing on his new weight loss program and learn how to coach. He also needs a hat!

With no prospect of making the tourney, it will hurt recruiting (where they do pretty well) and it can also lead to transfers for seniors and underclassmen who don't want to use up a year of eligibility with no prospect of a postseason.

I forgot sarcasm can't be heard on the internet. Obviously it would have an effect on the program, but it doesn't hurt their chances of making the tournament. Can't make it with a lack of eligibility or a lack of talent, or both. At least PC is consistent.

I feel bad for Chukwu. Those that spurn UConn for PC have not been lucky there.

Is this year three of Cooley? Scary for them is that their best players are seniors and Henton. If PC is ineligible that would give Henton a great excuse to use the Oriakhi clause.

Them being ineligible for the tournament is kind of similar to Marv Throneberry being ineligible for the baseball Hall of Fame.

Additionally, it is reality that has been devastating to their program.

Can't be a lot of positive vibes there because sean and J aren't visiting us…….

We have many issues right now, but APR is not one of them. Austin is transferring in good academic standing. He was never in academic trouble, so i dont see how he drops any points. By my count, we are looking at 50 out of 50 points this year. Last year, the only dropped point I see is Sidiki Johnson.

We don't have any guards other than the one who keeps getting hurt and we might have turned Oregon into a powerhpuse with Joe Young and Brandon Austin. Other than that, everything is GREAT!!!!!

You don't have to be in academic trouble to lose APR points. You need a total GPA above 2.6 to be exempt from APR rules. Remember, you lose 1 point already because he's not returning to campus. Another point if he finishes lower than a 2.6 GPA. And, you're not exempt from the first metric unless you score higher on the latter. This is the NCAA's wonderful double counting mechanism. You can do anything under the NCAA's eyes, you can take fraud classes, you can leave early for the pros, you can score very low in classes as long as you stay at the school, you can commit crimes and be expelled, but the one thing you absolutely CANNOT do is transfer without a 2.6 GPA. If you do that, the penalty doubles.

I believe his gpa was high enough to transfer without penalty. My understanding is that PC does not get a negative...they just don't get a positive. So you think they will be 50-52 or 50-51? I don't think that is the case, but even if it is, the result is still better than .950(961). Their big problem with apr was in 2010-2011....and those problems will not be a part of the next calculation.

Also, Yonick, isn't the next calculation in 2016? I thought there was a 3 year grace period to get to 930?

I honestly don't know. All I remember is FriarJ having a conversation with a UConn poster, on this board, back in the spring of 2013. The gist of that conversation was PC needed around a 950, when scores are announced in the spring of '14, in order to be eligible for 2015.
Basically I was inquiring as to whether PC was going to make it, or not.
