One of the strangest endings ever

That was one of the worst coached games I’ve ever seen. Sooo many questionable decisions. Why did Hurley switch back to man to man after Houston couldn’t even get a shot off against the zone look for 3 straight possessions? Seemed like Houston was trying to give us the game and we just couldn’t take.

Why can't you sub at the whistle after a 5 seconds call? I thought you can sub at any whistle?

With these refs I'm sure Hurley wouldn't have been able to tie his shoes if he needed to under five seconds.

what are you saying? This is stupid. We’re you watching the game? You play offense before you play defense when you are inbounding... you need 4 options not 3.
Almost as indefensible as KO not filling 2 scholarships in the same season or recruiting 3 kids who had significant recurring injuries.

Yea, it was a bit shocking. BUT. I convinced myself there is no way we pull this game out, no matter what play or player was involved. As long as Houston had time left, I wager the refs would personally score on their behalf.

I think Danny wanted someone to space the floor so he chose Temi over Carlton, the ball just ended up in Temi’s hands.

Yeah idk

You’re trying to defend the indefensible. A walk-on should not be in the game at all in critical moments like that. Of course Houston was going to bait us into giving him the ball.

The 5 on the floor at the end were the 5 in the game when the 5 second call was made. I don’t know if Hurley could sub with no time going off the clock or not. I think he can with the turnover and/or time out. But regardless, I’ll take a wide open shot by Aiyegbusi over Gilbert driving into 4 trees and turning it over or getting blocked.

But didn't Houston call a timeout allowing Dan Hurley to substitute?

No, refs stopped to check the clock, confirmed no time had gone off, which also confirmed that Hurley couldn’t make the sub.

Now this poor kid has to go his entire reliving the moment he missed a game tying shot against a ranked opponent. He probably feels terrible right now.

We tried to take the walk on out after the 5 second call. There was no time out. Sampson wanted a technical (maybe looked like he was calling timeout but was really signaling that we should be teed up as it’s a similar look) for illegal substitution when we tried to take the walk on out...the refs talked and said we could not substitute since no time had run off so we were forced to keep him in the game.

Apparently the ref did not let us sub before the offensive possession

Why was he not inbounding the ball?

Why the walk on was in doesn’t matter the question is why was he not the inbounder? Even if he throws a bad inbounds it’s better that 4 shooters are out there than 3...

He should've just stood off to the side and let the big boys try and make a play
