He is contesting being fired for cause. He wants arbitration and should get it. This is simply part of the process. He wasn't going to accept 0.

Arbitration. Lol. Screw that. Put him in front of a jury. There’s a reason he wants arbitration. UConn should not let that happen.

Question: why is he afforded union protection that is meant for faculty, professors, etc?

Is he fighting for his job or fighting being fired for cause? It’d be a little ridiculous to fight to remain head coach.

Except that it's in his contract and is his right. Besides that, yeah!

Is there a binding arbitration clause in his contract? If so, UConn needs to fire the lawyers working for the the AD. If there isn’t, he can go pound sand.

It will happen fairly quickly and coincidentally be settled by the the second weekend if the tourney. I am sure this is all expected and why AD DB fired him today.

Hope you’re right.

"Ollie is a member of the University of Connecticut's branch of the American Association of University Professors, a union that represents thousands of faculty members around the country. Per those close to the situation, few college basketball coaches possess union protection."

FROM the article:

Ollie is a member of the University of Connecticut's branch of the American Association of University Professors, a union that represents thousands of faculty members around the country. Per those close to the situation, few college basketball coaches possess union protection.

But Ollie's contract stipulates he's entitled to a hearing within the next 15 days to defend himself against the school's claim that it has the right to fire him with "just cause" and avoid the multimillion-dollar payout he would receive if he were terminated without cause.
