Just because you don't get starter minutes, that doesn't mean you still can't develop as a player over a 4 year college career.Brink happened and took her spot/minutes, and then fighting for playing time with Betts/Prechtel/Iriafen also reduced minutes. I hope Belibi grad transfers somewhere, she could be a huge force at another program. Duke could be a good fit with her academic background. She could also play overseas but I don't think she's a WNBA caliber player. Coming out of HS she talked about wanting to become a doctor (she had a near perfect GPA/test scores in HS) though if she goes the med school route, basketball is probably over for her.
I've been following both of these players for years: Belibi is a tweener forward at best who never really developed her offensive skills in either area. And, to be frank, she's not terribly physical on the 50-50 front. Prechtel is more than a 3-pt. launcher. She can play defense and block shots, but this is another instance to seemingly reaching her peak (at least for Stanford) early in her career. Frankly, I was hoping she'd hit the portal trail to South Bend for one year, but it appears she's going pro.Just because you don't get starter minutes, that doesn't mean you still can't developer as a player over a 4 year college career.
Betts barely arrived this season and is a true center; her arrival shouldn't really have had an impact on Belibi's playing time or development. Prechtel doesn't even play much in the paint; all she wants to do is launch 3-pointers; completely different skill set than Belibi.
And the last 2 minutes of every close game take forever -- just like the NBA.So well said, Monte. Watching Georgia vs. Iowa and then Ole Miss vs. Stanford definitely lessened my appetite to watch...
Or the guys. Or the NFL.And the last 2 minutes of every close game take forever -- just like the NBA.
I'm a fan of points. Usually, these types of games are boring to me. But this game was different.I did not see the game but the box score reads pretty ugly to me. Combined the two teams shot 31% from the floor with 15 assists and 38 turnovers so that must have been the most fantastically stupendous defensive performance of all time by both teams to have been considered a great game.
Why she was reduced to benchwarmer status this year is beyond meI like Prechtel's game, always have. She's not a low post banger, but she can do that, too. But a high post passer and shooter is what she does best.
Who's minutes was she gonna take? Like I said above, they had too many options and not enough playing time to go around. She was by far the least productive and least efficient of the players in the post rotation. Why she was reduced to benchwarmer status this year is beyond me
I'll suggest since Sue, the GOAT point guard. Paige and Caitlin are more scoring conscious than Sue was (hard to say wasClark I'd take over anyone. 2 years ago I would've taken Paige over her, but Paige a tough one since she's been quite injury prone. I'd probably risk it and take her over Brink since she's another really unique talent and has a knack for seizing big moments. Both her and Clark are possibly the best guard prospects since Taurasi IMO.
Brink would slotted at 3rd, I think she's going to be a great pro with her length and face up game. Reese is another really intriguing prospect, though her game needs some refinement. Realistically I could see all 4 returning for a 5th season though.
) but they seem more like Sue than DT.ND has a better mix of talent than Stanford for such an exigency. Mainly, Tara has no one comparable to Citron, who actually is the effective big guard that people imagine Jones could have been. They’re the same size, though Haley is probably a bit stronger. But Citron’s handles and perimeter shot are simply better. And with Bransford, Prosper, Westbeld and Ebo/Watson it’s just a better mix — stronger, more mobile and more suited to each other. When Miles returns next season and Bransford and Prosper have a little more seasoning, I think ND will have one of the best big guard-wing combos in D1. I don’t know what they’ll do about the post though.Citron kept her cool on defense (4 steals) and hitting crucial FT's down the stretch.
I bring this up because if Tara wasn't getting the guard play she needed, I thought she should've gone big and helped out Brink, not just on offense, but defense. Jones is a good enough point forward to get the ball to, say, Brink and Prechtel. But it didn't happen.
They have been practically transfer proof other than a few grads who maybe didn't have a scholarship available at Stanford anymore.I didn't realize Iriafen ended up only averaging 12 mpg. That's crazy considering her start to the season. I wonder if Stanford will be effected by the portal?
And deep. I expect Dawn continues to play the entire roster. Bench scored 41 and 30 in the first weekend.Cooke goes ice cold, but SC is just so much bigger and more athletic. I know Ole Miss pushed them to overtime but I don't see that happening again.
Very true, that Stanford education is valuable. They have been practically transfer proof other than a few grads who maybe didn't have a scholarship available at Stanford anymore.
I think Tara could’ve/should’ve started Prechtel with Brink and Jones, given that both Prechtel and Brink are decent midrange shootersWho's minutes was she gonna take? Like I said above, they had too many options and not enough playing time to go around. She was by far the least productive and least efficient of the players in the post rotation.
Personally, I would have to go with the skilled 6-5 shot blocking big. Two years ago I would have said Paige. It may change again depending on what happens next year. As of right now I would go : (1) Brink, Clark, Paige, Reese, and the wild card would be Cardoso. Cardoso will probably be the focal point of SC next year. This summer will be very important for her.Clark I'd take over anyone. 2 years ago I would've taken Paige over her, but Paige a tough one since she's been quite injury prone. I'd probably risk it and take her over Brink since she's another really unique talent and has a knack for seizing big moments. Prechtel shot a measly 35% overall this year. I don't know what happened, but she wasn't the same player she was earlier in her career. Would she have played better with increased minutes? That's hard to say, but all of the other players she was competing with were more productive in the minutes they got.I think Tara could’ve/should’ve started Prechtel with Brink and Jones, given that both Prechtel and Brink are decent midrange shooters
Disagree. You can only be judged to be "least productive" (even with stats) if you don't get a chance to be productive. And Tara's yin-yang approach to playing time this winter was counter-productive in my mind. She's not Brink, but could've been a solid center for oh-so-many teams.Who's minutes was she gonna take? Like I said above, they had too many options and not enough playing time to go around. She was by far the least productive and least efficient of the players in the post rotation.
Good point about Citron and crew.ND has a better mix of talent than Stanford for such an exigency. I get you, but everyone else vying for those minutes played better than her this year. She did nothing to earn more PT. Whoever you sit, people will be asking "why didn't she play more?" It's what I keep saying, Stanford simply had too many players in their post rotation.Disagree. You can only be judged to be "least productive" (even with stats) if you don't get a chance to be productive. And Tara's yin-yang approach to playing time this winter was counter-productive in my mind. She's not Brink, but could've been a solid center for oh-so-many teams.
Other than Dodson, I don't think they've gotten a whole lot of mileage out of their Stanford transfers. Thompson got hurt of course, so she didn't have much opportunity.Stanford: Notre Dame’s farm league team. Who will they call up?![]()
It's been Thompson, Sniezek, and Dodson right? Dodson was really good, I'm surprised she couldn't be that good at Stanford as she was at ND. I think ND has done pretty good developing their post transfers, although I didn't watch Ebo at Texas. I too was hoping for a Prechtel or Belibi at ND for a grad transfer. Holding onto the idea of another Cardinal rejoining some USA teammates, but that's unlikely.Other than Dodson, I don't think they've gotten a whole lot of mileage out of their Stanford transfers. Thompson got hurt of course, so she didn't have much opportunity.

Clark reminds me more of Ionescu but is a better all around scorer and has more range. Agree about Bueckers being like a better scoring version of Bird, though I think Paige can put a team on her back and carry them in a way I never saw from Bird which makes her upside scary good. Agree about Angel, I think she'll get there. She definitely seems to have the drive and motivation. This is a loaded class of players.I'll suggest since Sue, the GOAT point guard. Paige and Caitlin are more scoring conscious than Sue was (hard to say was) but they seem more like Sue than DT.
I'm with you on your order of drafting preference and your reasons.
Angel's got all the tools but doesn't yet know how to use them consistently. Good chance she'll get there with good coaching right at hand.
And Jenna Brown this year, who has been just as unproductive at ND as she was at Stanford. She was a really highly rated prospect once upon a time. It's been Thompson, Sniezek, and Dodson right?
