Award for the ugliest (but certainly enough to take down the beast of the overrated PAC 12) line - just under 30% from the floor, 45% from 3; 44 rebounds, 7 assists, 17 turnovers. They certainly got Stanford to play their game. SEC rules I suppose?

Stanford going down before the FF was not a surprise, but losing to Ole Miss certainly was. It was a very ugly game but Stanford has played a few of those this year and it finally caught up with them. The officiating in the game was terrible but both teams benefitted from it at on time or another.

Maybe this is just me, but I think this is a Stanford issue to some extent. Players arrive, look like gangbusters right away and then sort of disappear for a year or two or three or don't really develop. I think Prechtel falls in the first category, while Jump seems to have been on vacation from her freshman year until this season. Iriafen seems headed in the same direction: eye opening as a freshman but not that this year. On the other hand, Belibi and Jones belong in the second category: good players who haven't seemed to get much better year by year. I think some of this has to do with the way Tara substitutes and the success Stanford has overwhelming most of its opponents with what seems like an endless parade of talented players. That's admirable in many ways, but I don't think it's good for either player development or the overall performance of the team when faced with a tough opponent.

I was really surprised that Iriafen didn't have a better season after she looked great vs South Carolina this year.

I guess Brink and Jones make it difficult.

Reminded me of a NBA game from the 80s -- lots of physical contact around the basket and everywhere.

Yeah. I thought that Stanford would make the FF. But when the committee made them a #1 Seed, that thought process changed. They were either going to fall in the 2nd round or Sweet Sixteen. Just a matter of time.

Yeah, that was a physical game. A lot of flopping but there was a lot of contact. Did anyone hear what conference the officiating crew came from?

They both looked terrible on offense. I’m not sure Stanford could score without Brink’s size and Jones’ strength. And Miss started half their O with 8 seconds on the clock and then drove to where Brink could easily block them. Stealing the ball is not an offensive plan.
To be fair brink was still sick. She said she was winded the whole game and you could see her on the sideline trying to get nutrients in her. She was just getting an IV a couple days ago. With that, I think she did as well as she could and still had a nice game

If it wasn’t for the prestige of a Stanford degree, there would be a bunch of very talented Stanford players, currently earning limited PT, who would all be hitting the portal in the next week or so.

Not sure where the refs came from. But I'm not a fan of SEC officiating. The clutch and grab style basketball is a little extra in that conference.

If you take a look at the shot chart for Stanford it tells a story. Coach Yo said before the game that they were not going to let Stanford have ANY clear 3 point shots. Stanford ends up with 2 by Jump all game.
Except for a couple of random tries there was no mid-range game...everything had to be pounded inside. For whatever reason Stanford missed many, many close-in shots when the ball did go inside. Oh well...they are done.
I am commenting though because I do want to add some kudos for Cameron Brink. She was in complete warrior mode and kept the Cardinal in the game with 10-10 FT and 7 blocks. Only 5-13 from the field though. Uncharacteristic.
I always have mixed feelings about Brink since as an Oregon kid I'd have liked to see her stay in state. But Stanford education is a Stanford Education...what can you do.

Brink wasn’t 100% and hadn’t played in a week, but she was still the most dominant player on the floor and played her heart out. Ole Miss defended extremely well but Stanford missed SO many chippies they normally make with ease.

Would you take her over Bueckers and Clark in next year’s draft, assuming they all enter? Posts as good as her are hard to come by

It was another brutal "football" game. In both men's and women's basketball, it seems that the physicality keeps getting worse and worse.
I am getting so tired of watching the brutal defense + offense in the game which used to be a game of skill.

Cameron Brink is a warrior. I don't think she was 100% physically last night.

Tara needs to teach her guards how, when and where to get Brink the ball. She'll do the rest.

She’ll be a great pro, she and Boston will by far be the best two posts to come out of college since Wilson. I’m still not sold on Betts, she looked very slow and unathletic last night

So well said, Monte. Watching Georgia vs. Iowa and then Ole Miss vs. Stanford definitely lessened my appetite to watch...
