I'll help you... the most egregious of the refs' calls/non-calls came in the first half when Caitlin shoved the Ohio State defender right in front of the ref, with no call.

As I've said, she gets calls, as all great basketball players get (including Paige).

There was another non-call late. An tOSU player drove the left side and just as she jumped for a layup a secondary Iowa player ran into her. The shot went in but it was an obvious "and one" situation but no whistle. I've seen that let go in games where lots of contact is ignored but at that point of the game Iowa was going to the line for a lot less and the officials were calling everything.

I wonder how many national games of interest with 18.000 crowds these officials had done?

Just a stray observation -- that will include Paige to satisfy @The deacon.

I noticed Emma Shumate standing next to Caitlin in a courtside camera view and she looked to be 2" taller easy. Emma is listed as 6'1". Now both Caitlin and Paige received "promotions" to 6 feet last season and neither are entirely persuasive. They were each 5'11" as freshmen and I'd be really surprised if they grew another inch in their 20s.

Bueckers' high school coach said she was 6' before she ever arrived in Storrs. Her height and her vertical are a big part of her efficiency at mid-range.

I'm more irked when they don't get the call...then complain. Imagine how everyone else feels! Deja Kelly (UNC) should have fouled out TWICE in the game today. Half the fouls were offensive.

I agree 100%. Storming of the court is pretty dangerous from a players point of view and a fans point of view. There have been incidents, low percentage, where players and fans have engaged in a few exchanges.

Rarely will a fan storming a court in the men's game or football game outweigh the person. The guy that ran into Clark was a good 50 lbs heavier and running full speed. Like I stated earlier they need to put a stop to it for the safety of the players.

Yikes! You are going scorched earth level. The SEC has the best policy in play to limit fans rushing the court. Home team gets a $100,000 fine first offense, $250,000 second offense. $500,000 each time after.

If you want to stop bad behavior, you have to make the penalties punitive. Decades ago, the NHL used to have bench-clearing brawls on a regular basis. They don't any more. Baseball could do the same thing if they wanted to (double-forfeit in that case if enough players on both sides are ejected).

Luckily, Clark was not seriously injured, but if she had been, people would be taking this problem seriously.

Now that I've had a chance to reflect on the Iowa-tOSU game, a few things occurred to me.

1. I'd say that McMahon played the same game as last season. The announcers even have a nickname for it: the spin cycle. Her move is very predictable. A well-coached front court should stop her in her tracks. She hasn't really progressed much in her skills from last season. What she needed was a well-motivated home game against an old rival
2. Iowa is particularly vulnerable to McMahon's game. As quick and strong as Stuelke is, she is not ready to contain McMahon once she gets the ball in the paint. And O'Grady and Goodman are even less capable. This means she often ends up on Kate Martin, who really doesn't stand a chance.
3. Until someone other than Caitlin and Molly develop some offense, the strategy for beating them is to work the middle, shut down Davis, and concede Caitlin the perimeter. It's the old Michael Jordan defense the Celtics used against Chicago to great effect. Once Stuelke got tired, somewhere in the middle of the 3rd quarter, they had no answer for McMahon and Sheldon driving the lane. By the 4th quarter, no one prevented McMahon from setting up on the low block to receive an easy post pass.

All true, Bone Dog, and I'll just note a reality about Hannah Stuelke that the announcers reminded viewers about several times: she's been sitting out recently due to a bad ankle. Lots of players play through pain, but trying to handle McMahon with a bad ankle was definitely a losing proposition for Hannah, and it apparently affected her typically high percentage shooting in the lane.

Off to bed... it's been a long day, starting with the golf tournament in Dubai early this morning, the women's game and two NFL games. What a grind

One thing I will say about the "gimme" fouls in Iowa's favor is that McMahon gets a lot of these irrelevant calls when she bumps players repeatedly until she hears a whistle. She pinned 3 fouls in the first half on Kate Martin that way

I’m not calling Clark the victim but at the end of the day the fans do not belong on the court.

IIRC, Ohio State is the team that knocked UConn out in the sweet sixteen game last year. UConn could not handle their press. Ohio State looks better than last year. This game should really be some cause for concern for UConn fans.

Last season, the team didn't have Bueckers, Shade or Arnold as part of their depth at guard. The press would still be tough, but I don't believe UConn would have the same issue.

I don’t know if there is any criminal liability here, but I wouldn’t be surprised if law enforcement is looking for the woman. All in all, it was an unfortunate and thankfully harmless bit of stupidity on the tOSU fans’ part and thankfully Caitlin and WCBB dodged a bullet.

Agreed. It looked like a situation that they didn't see each other until it was too late.

Storming the court, should it be allowed? I'm not a fan. Having a security detail for Clark is one thing. Having a game plan for situations is another.

I've noticed with the Purdue men's team when they suffered an upset, the visiting team (can't remember who) allowed them to get off the court before it happened. Not sure if it was a one-off, but it was proactive planning on their part. Having something similar in place for Iowa would be a good idea considering the situation.

It's Caitlin Clark, Big Fan, and the ESPN website has the same numbers now that it had at game's end. You might want to check it again. 'She' had 25 field goal attempts, including 18 three-point attempts, and 16 free throw attempts. That's 41 'hoisted' shots in all.

Do you want fans to get excited about women's basketball or not? There have been court and field stormings for generations in the men's game and football. That one was very mild.

Not sure what the Big Ten has for rules but the Big 12 cracked down on this after a court storming following a 2015 KU/KSU game got pretty out of control. The Big 12 doesn't technically "ban" storming the playing court/field. You get fined if you don't have a protocol in place and functioning security to protect the players and coaches.

Big 12 fined UCF $25,000 for storming the court after beating #3 KU on Wednesday in MBB. TCU was fined $50,000 this fall for storming the field in football. My school got a $25,000 after a fairly slow motion nothing burger field storming in 2018. They appealed but never heard if they won their case in saying security did have the opponents screened and escorted off adequately.

It was a man? The X video was not very clear, but it looked like a woman no taller than Clark. She was knocked down too. Is there other video that makes it clearer?

After further review I wish to change it to an oversized person, don't want to upset anyone on a gender issue.
