They only played 1 cupcake (first game of the season) and now Illinois is the second of SIX ranked non conference opponents in a row. Gotta respect that.
They played UNC Asheville, Arkansas State and McNeese St. the first 3 games of the season. Aren't all of those considered cupcakes?

Well mcneese has Will Wade so not quite. It would be like if we scheduled Syracuse, not a good team by any stretch but not quite a cupcake either.

Not sure about ArkSt

Tonight: 10 PM on ESPNU: Memphis at San Francisco.

Both teams are undefeated and a chance to catch Memphis against one of the best mid-majors in the nation prior to Maui.

Memphis only 1.5pt favorites. I’m guessing this is on their way out to Maui? If so, feels like a major let down set up. Memphis is 37 KP, SF 52. SF does have a nice win over KP36 Boise St.

Baylor/StJ tonight as well, two teams will be playing. Baylor 2.5 favorites.

Btw Zags just bumped up to 1 in the KP. That December matchup will be big for the resume.

I don't like counting chickens before they hatch, but if we can beat the Zags and face (and beat) Auburn in Maui (along with W's against Memphis and either MSU/Iowa State) and also Baylor, that would be quite a list of NC scalps come Selection Sunday.
The fact we played a bunch of sub-300 cupcakes wouldn't even matter.

That is a big ask. One game at a time! I’m honestly just looking for game over game improvement, seeing how the rotation crystallizes and hope that results in a win.

Yeah, I don't expect they'll be able to sweep that slate, but the potential is there to rack up huge NC wins that the Selection committee will be impressed with no matter how many speedbump teams we scheduled.

unfortunately KP means literally nothing at this point and really will not until January. this system needs to be adjusted with the massive turnover of rosters for todays game.

that being said, i am looking forward to playing some much improved competition an watching this team grow.

beating all the sub-300 cupcakes by over 35 should help our metrics for some perverse reason, that's why teams do it, at least i hope so or there's no redeeming value in it.

ISU v Auburn is a first round matchup and the winner will play UNC, so we'd only play 1 of the 3 in Maui. most likely Memphis>MSU>Auburn

I don’t think it means nothing - still a valued metric and the starting point does have overall impact. It’s not perfect, but it’s very credible.

it uses stats from the previous year, 4 games in to this season it has very little credibility

K's career > Hurley's. It's not even close. Hurley could pass K, and it looks like he has the skill set to do so. But he'll need to stay at an elite level for the next 20 years.
Is someone saying otherwise? It isn't even close....yet.

If SJ is gonna shoot like this they’re a problem
Baylor is a mess. This does not look like a very good basketball team. The 40 point beating at Gonzaga is shining through in this one.

But yeah StJ reigning 3s.

Egifor is a load. Amazing to think Tarris has solid 25lbs on him. Kind of guy that will eat Samson alive and Tarris will have to play the bulk of time.

Yea Baylor plays like a badly coached team. Which is strange since they are coached by what most would consider a very good head coach. I think Omier has taken 3 threes already. Like why? They also take the wildest drives to the basket I’ve ever seen.

They don’t really run anything. Try to run Edgecombe off something to get him some space. Anything he tries is self generated.

Drew got his ring with a mega talented team that quieted a lot of the skeptics. More of a recruiter than a coach as he’s sent a lot of talent to the NBA lately with no major runs since. Things fell well for UK grabbing Pope over him.

If not for the frosh coming off the bench and nailing 3 triples for Baylor they’d be getting rolled.

If Baylor can get there ish together they can make this a game. SJ made 8 threes and dominated yet are only up 14. Feels like they should be up more.

That block by Smith was ridiculous. 6ft kid flying out to swat a wide open 3 point shooter is impressive. StJ has some players this year. Luis, Smith, Egifor and Kadari are a great core. Dunlap off the bench is a nice headsy player. They’re a good looking team.

Baylor threes kept this game from being really ugly. It feels like the spread is a lot lower than it should be. Let’s see if they make any adjustments and find a way to get back in it after the half.
