I don't think that anyone would question Skylar's talent and ability to perform at crunch time. It's her percieved arrogance on the court, and the fact that she is appears shocked when a foul is actually called on her that drives people nuts. A skilled, drama queen...
Honestly, every program has a player like that. Remember Ivory Latta's bug eyes (UNC)? Remember Mistie Bass' incredulous look when a foul was called (Duke)? Remember Candace Parker's pleas to the referees when she was called for an infraction (Tennessee)? Every team has had a player like that at some point. And usually, that player is one that the fans of that team absolutely love while the opposition loves to hate.
How many times did people refer to Diana Taurasi as a drama queen? Was she dramatic? Yes. Did she engage in on-court theatrics? Yes. And when the game was over, what did she do? She waved to the crowd (I still remember the give-and-take with the Cameron Crazies and Geno/Taurasi, plus her "call me" post-game gesture...pretty hilarious). At the time, did Duke fans hate her for it? Absolutely. In hindsight, what was it? A give-and-take with the crowd after a tremendous performance from a truly amazing competitor whose will to win was unsurpassed and could not be deterred by anyone or anything.
And now she gets to wave to the crowd with her three NCAA rings and her two WNBA rings.
