So I don't get points for getting the team's right on a Thursday morning with one cup of coffee???? Tough crowd.;)

I mean, you stated clearly that you did not list in specific order. I simply played her twitter video twice and wrote down the order for those who might not bother to play the vid, but still appreciate the exact order she listed her finalists. :D

I even gave your post a "like" 10 hours ago which no other poster has bothered to do the whole day! :p

@southie is doing what all good Homer fans do - reading every tea leaf and bird entrail for signs their desired recruit is signaling they'll commit to their team. Because she listed Texas first, that's obviously where she'll be going.

You must have not read my opening statement which clearly said "Not that it's a big deal . . . " ;)

Very early probable 2028 top ten recruit pickup for the Card!

This is not my personal information, but there are a lot of less than flattering posts surrounding Miss Guy on all the Iowa sites. This has been going on for several months. The source of the negativity apparently surrounds her father. For all I know Jhaliana is a great kid, but the consensus is that it would be surprising that her allegiance to Stanford never wavers. I hope it doesn't as we all know Stanford is a terrific school AND IT'S REALLY FAR AWAY FROM BETTENDORF IOWA. Class of 2028 threads on Iowa sites have discussions for those interested.

I would be interested to know how many frosh (or earlier) verbal commits actually work out. Too little info at that age imho.

Frosh verbal commit Anna Wilson started for us the year we won our most recent Natty, so I'm excited to welcome Swain to campus this fall and have every expectation that Guy will make her mark on our program as well. Tons of factors contribute to this, but I'm not seeing why some 15-year-olds can't have the vision, motivation, and execution to decide what they want for themselves. I agree it's uncommon, but I don't think it's per se a bad thing.

The only ones not mentioned by TheFarmFan I can think of are Lauren Avant who committed to Tennessee as a 14 year old, but she's a tough story because I believe she was in a car accident prior to arriving on campus and her body couldn't compete and transferred to Rhodes College, where she had a great career. She then was their head coach and now is the Head Coach at Lipscomb.

More recently, Finley Chastain and Sammy Wagner both committed early, Chastain in 8th grade and Wagner when she was 14. Since then, both those head coaches left, Finley has transferred high schools multiple times and de-committed from UT and Wagner is at Oregon.

Nicole Melious committed to Purdue as a freshmen, then Versyp stepped down, she later committed to Fortner at GT. She ended up never going to GT because of tragedy in her family, so she played her first years of college at La Salle then Seton Hall and is currently in the Transfer Portal.

Those are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head.

While, not AS early, Marcayla Johnson committed to Baylor pretty early, like in 2022 [which, I think had her as a sophomore] She remains committed to Baylor.. Nyla Brooks also committed to Tennessee as a Sophomore [2022]. Nyla Brooks is now going to UNC after Harper was fired.

9th grade is too young for a player to make a decision like this (and too young for a staff to accept this decision).

Thanks. So there may be special circumstances with several, but in your examples it looks like 0 of these frosh or earlier commits ending up graduating from that school.
It's so early that there's a still of info to be gathered on both player and school. If they player doesnt progress in 10th, 11th grade, then the school will lose interest and/or encourage them to look elsewhere. And a 14 year old may change her mind!

Sophie Cunningham verbally committed to Missouri in the 8th grade. As FarmFan said, Anna Wilson committed early as well. I think it certainly just depends on the student athlete. Some of them know early on and would rather get it out the way early.

Thanks for this. Lipscomb (and Belmont) are my teams, after Vanderbilt of course. I wasn't aware of that much of Lauren's back story, only that she played at Tennessee. She is now coach Sumski at Lipscomb, and her husband, Chris, is the assistant head coach. She does a terrific job and has rebuilt a once floundering program into one that, if they can ever crack the FGCU code in the A-Sun, could challenge for an NCAA bid. They open play in the 48-team WNIT today at 7 p.m. eastern time.

On the subject of Finley Chastain, it will be interesting to see if coach Harper's hiring at Missouri sparks her interest since she was obviously dedicated to her at UT. That would be a huge lift for Kellie Harper if the player turns out to be as good as advertised.

There's worse life decisions than commiting to Stanford as a hs freshman. Most non athletes and their parents would sign up.

What's that quote about apples and oranges?

#1 recruit A Chavez was supposedly going to be at the Okla games. She is expected to announce next week but seems like her decision is clear?

Huge get for Sooners.

Hmm I thought all the tea leaves pointed to UT?

FIFY. Remind me, are they the ones with the T Boone Pickens fortune behind them? Honestly, I hate to admit it, but I'm kind of secretly rooting against both her and whomever she commits to. No one's even pretending it's not all about pay to play.

Chavez is deciding today. I think it will be Texas or Oklahoma. Because I have read recently that she attended games to see those programs.

I do think tech is still a dark horse. And probably the best option since she will have a green light to do anything on the basketball court.

Never mind. I guess it is tomorrow.
