To me, it's not about the football game. It's just experiencing the pageantry of collegiate sports. During the winter, when football recruits are taking official visits in January and February, they are taken to the college basketball games on campus. Odd how that is so backwards, but it's the norm based on when most basketball and football players take their official visits.

Honestly, the only time a football game would influence a basketball recruit is if they were already leaning towards that school to begin with, and they enjoyed the atmosphere while attending the game.

That sounds about right. I remember there was a story in Megan Walker's local paper that talked about how much she likes football and that a school with a big-time football program would be "preferable." Maybe that's why some posters repeatedly said Walker was a big-time ND lean even though that was never the case.

I'm not sure that's the right assumption. Not sure how each of Egbo's finalists would user her in their offense (Center / PF / both). That could be key, as well as the depth in the frontcourt.

MSU now has 4 verbal commitments; they could be full (unless there is attrition). Same situation for Texas, although we are expecting some possible attrition. Of course, MSU has two front-court verbals, while Texas only has one. Baylor has one, as well. FSU has all backcourt verbals.

Interesting that Queen took her first official visit to Texas on 09/01, but has not taken any others since. They are most likely scheduled already, and still plenty of time to take them before the early signing period begins/ends. But, most recruits take their multiple visits in consecutive weeks, or at least every other week. Miss. State had their huge recruiting weekend this week in conjunction with the LSU football game, but Queen was not part of that. Guessing FSU has a huge football weekend coming up; not sure about Baylor.

Tend to agree with you that the key factor with the bigs is what kind of skill sets they bring to the school and how the school, in kind, will use them.

- Mississippi State's two commits, White and Carter, both appear to be more of the traditional posts; and, while Egbo is diversifying her game, I still think of her offensive strengths as closer to the basket. Or on the run.
- Nalyssa Smith seems to fall in the forward category for Baylor, but Cox will still have two years there when Egbo shows up.
- And Texas has longstanding commit. Sadonna Prince, the 6'7" one, coming in.
- While FSU primarily has guards thus far, 6'4-5" River Baldwin is committed in the Class of 2019.

Will be interested to see when she's visiting more of these schools.

based on how ND is playing this season, she would have missed out on big time football even if she had chosen to join the Irish...............:D

FSU has home games with NC State coming up this Saturday, Miami on 10/7 and Louisville on 10/21.

Baylor has a really bad football team this year, having lost to Liberty, Texas-San Antonio and Duke this year, with no wins so far.. This is a result of the Briles debacle, recruits/commits leaving, a year of "caretaker" coaching by Jim Grobe and the resulting continued recruiting disaster, then the subsequent inability to attract a big-name "permanent" coach. They do have a big football weekend coming up this weekend vs. Oklahoma, but I doubt their performance is going to impress any WBB recruits.

If Oklahoma doesnt put 60 up on Baylor.... it will be an upset.

I recall reading a quote from Ann Strother in which she wondered why schools were taking her to football games on recruiting trips. "I'm a basketball player."

I'm sure recruits enjoy the atmosphere of big-time football games, but the decision is about basketball (coaches, teammates), academics, etc.

Twenty years ago there wasn't Facebook or Twitter, no HD flat screen TV's, very few wcbb games on TV, no streaming and only a few cell phones that required a back pack. HS basketball players lived in a much more insular world and a weekend on a college campus with all the hoopla of a football game had a much bigger impression on recruits. That was the atmosphere that many of today's coaches experienced as players. They use what they know. UConn is one of the only schools in the country where the wcbb program is as big a deal (or bigger) on campus as any men's program. Recruits have no need to be wowed in Storrs because they can see the excitement attached to wbb at UConn streaming on their laptops.

The pageantry of collegiate sports:

Boomer Sooner!

I didnt see any issue with that.... though I saw some got their knickers in a bunch over it.

Would have definitely worked out better on a grass field though :p

I would agree. All indications are that we think (for some very good reason) we are one of the two schools she is between.

On another completely different note, it is my Boneyard Birthday today. 6 years today. How about that? Happy Boneyard Birthday to me! For your all's part, which is 99.99999999% of it, thanks for making the Boneyard a place for fans of all teams. Obviously, it is Husky dedicated, but you all are quite welcoming.

Happy BY B-day to you Jennyo, many happy returns.

strange family priorities......no need to go on a yearly basketball showcase....if you can really, really play the recruiters will find you......
Family priority was basketball period. My daughter will probably slug me for saying this but Blair is one of the best academic school in the entire country. If it was about academics even a little bit the family would find a way to stay at Blair and set herself up for life not just basketball.

Oh it was disrespectful. That was the point of doing it. Ballsy, but hey, to the victors go the spoils.

Being a Michigan fan, I have no problem with it. (I imagine OU will pay for it dearly some day though.)

Probably, but it sure was sweet at the time!

Terrell Owens celebrates on the star in Texas Stadium and gets laid out by Cowboys' George Teague..

I didn't see that Williams posted any photos of UCLA visit. Should we read anything into that?
