Florida was 29-26 in season and now peaking for final four...

...the Gators look like a different team.

FSU played yesterday and play the Vols today...the Vols have had a couple of days rest.

Looks dire for the Noles considering their pitching shape...stats say only 11% chance for a team that loses the first game to win it all...

FSU needed to score a bunch to pace Tn. They have scored 27 in three games. But they are spent. The Vols are good and they are rested.

24 trips to Omaha, 0 ships for FSU. UConn knocked them out one of those times in 1957.

Have to think they get over the hump eventually if Jarrett stays.

What a year for FSU...from the worst record ever posted last year...to Final Four this year...nice turn around. The #1 Vols were too much...but the first game was close and could/should have been won.

Back in the day..UConn made five CWS appearances, Holy Cross 4, Maine 7, St. John's 6, NYU 2, UMass 2, Seton Hall 4...

Northeast had teams in the CWS...

Some relative late comers like Miami came alive in the 70's...Canes' first CWS in 1974 and 25 total appearances...LSU 1st appearance 1986 and 19 appearances since, South Carolina 1st appearance in 1975 and 11 total

This is because the format changed. They used to geographically divide the country into regions and choose/establish the best teams from each region. So there was always a northeast representative guaranteed in the CWS each year.

When they changed to the modern format the regionals now have no tie to actual regions like they used to. You can now have every team in the CWS from the southeast if it works out that way. This never used to be possible in the old format and it is now much harder for northeast teams to qualify.

Teams come and go...us old guys remember Wichita's runs.... winning the CWS eventually...Gene Stephenson was an iconic coach.

Maybe basketball should be more regional...hadn't really thought about that...

This year, UNC, Clemson, Alabama, Mississippi State, Charleston, and Howard were assigned to the West and played in Los Angeles.

Vermont, Wisconsin, Boise, Marquette, Kentucky, Duke, JMU were assigned to the South but out in Dallas.

Baseball and basketball, I reckon, have tried to be more "open" to the best prevailing regardless of location...

Why should baseball be different than basketball? The best teams should be playing for the chance at a national championship.

I think my post may have been unclear. I’m all for the best teams getting in, just commenting on the history of why some northeast teams has more CWS appearances many years ago

Best baseball teams should be playing for national championship. Unfortunately, baseball is not played at neutral sites, so the rankings are very important and not always impartial. Regional hosts have a higher probability of advancing in the tournament.

I get your point but finish in top 16 and UConn will host a regional.
