ACC will go west before it goes northeast
UConn will likely be the exception to this. Yes, I think there's more Western expansion on the horizon, but I think UConn finally gets in when the dust clears. I don't know if that's going to be to appease the UNC/Duke tobacco road faction as an all sports thing to counter western additions. I don't know if it's as a merger with the Big East which I think is increasingly likely, personally. I'm not sure which route it'll shake out as. I do think UConn is in, though.

Why even play a regular season if they are going to choose who is going to play in championship game?

I’m also confused about this. The ACC only got 2 teams in the playoff BECAUSE of their format. SMU wasn’t punished by losing it.

Yeah that's dumb. I'd be fine with the top four of each conference playing a mini tournament. But whatever.

40 teams? With the current timeline, the basketball championship would be decided quicker.

Soooo... ruin college football for good right away?

I reaaly hope there's an alternative.
How would power conferences having a small four team playoff within the conference to determine the conference champion ruin college football?

Because it does nothing to improve it.

Sure there is.
I can hear it now. It's the first Monday of April, and the Final Four Championship coverage comes back from a commercial break, with Ian Eagle proclaiming, "Next weekend, A tradition unlike any other. The Masters. Only on CBS. And don't forget in two weeks. Tune in to see who gets to raise the College Football Championship. Followed immediately by the first round of the NFL draft."

Yeah, that'll be great.

Ever heard of the regular season?
I have. I also see the NFL season going longer and don't see a legitimate reason you couldn't extend the college season a little longer. The networks would love it, and let's stop pretending these are anything but paid athletes at this point. Cut some meaningless bowls, add a few more relevant games.... It can be done if you stop clinging to an outdated model.

Why do people get hung up on "meaningless bowls" They are a reward for the teams that are in them, if you don't like the particular bowl, bug off and don't watch.

The last thing I want to see is more average p4 teams in a playoff

also people forget you get a near full month of additional practice. Which is incredible incentive for players to play for bowl bound schools.

Bowls were always exhibitions meant to bring in money. They are worth what you want out of them.

You're telling me with a straight face bowls mean as much as they used to?

Nobody wants CFB to be more like the NFL.

in my opinion...this CFP went way to long. Yesterday, I barely even knew about the national championship game especially since everyone was focused on the divisional round result and now conference championship matches.

I prefer 4 team playoff by far.
