20 schools plus Notre Dame as a non-football member w/ a scheduling agreement. I'd take it as a worst case scenario.

Stuff like this is why I think 20(+1) would be the sweet-spot for fans/competition. Play your pod every year and rotate the other 3 through for football. 9 conference football games. Play everybody once a year for basketball giving 19 (20) conference games. That said if the ACC falls apart I don't necessarily see the Big 12 stopping at 20. The B1G and SEC might

yeah i would be fine watching UConn compete in that iteration of ACC for the rest of my life but we cant know how many ACC teams will be leftover or who they will be. that's too big of a risk to count on.

I think Memphis is a better fit for the Big 12 in the eyes of Presidents regionally, culturally, football-wise, and academically, and they have solid bball. I would not be surprised if they ultimately leapfrog us after this dog and pony show.

Memphis is even below Big 12 standards academically as they would be the lowest ranked Big 12 school. Eight Big 12 schools are ranked 115 or below by US News with the lowest ranked school, WVU and Texas Tech tied at 216. Memphis is ranked 269.

I wouldn't take swipes at the kids or say any awful stereotypes of the people who live there.

Everything I said is true and not a nasty stereotype. It is an awful academic school, it would be the worst academic school in the Big 12. It is a commuter school, only 18% of undergrads live on campus. They've never won anything. This can be disputed, apparently their pom squad is amazing winning many national championships for dance. Memphis has the highest murder rate in the country.

I think as fans, we need to understand this. The big east will cease to be a power basketball conference because we will not be able to compete with not only the new media deals revenue, even if we got rid of football because we won’t be able to do revenue distribution with the players, which is also something that is now reality. You’re not going to get kids to come play at UConn if we do not have same sources of income for them as we do now.

To clarify, UConn is joining the Big 12 on its own, or it isn't. There is a higher likelihood of UConn joining the Big 12 with UMass than there is of Colorado, UConn and UA/ASU joining the Big 12 together.

WE GET IT. you are a broken record. who are you even arguing? everyone with a brain understands that we have to get into the BIg12 before it becomes certain that the ACC is imploding, which will be by 2036 at the latest.

this understanding is not inconsistent with the hope that a bunch of ACC schools will join the Big12 after we do.

You have no idea how many people outside of Connecticut believe that ESPN favors us greatly and that the only reason for our success is because ESPN is a resident of our state.

Most can't comprehend that a state company would not want to do anything it could to promote the state school and there aren't a lot of people who truly follow what has transpired over the past decade and a half.

FSU will leave the ACC, and Clemson won't be far behind.

As for any further defections, you'd have to ask the board of regents in Chapel Hill about how they feel about the inevitable invite from the Big Ten. That one is absolutely coming down the pike once the ACC's TV deal enters even shakier territory.

Right, because they were in the process of losing significant access to Tobacco Road. They had home and home rivalries with UNC, Duke, Wake & State and lost more than half of them to a rotating basis because of John Swofford's unwieldy expansion, and his desire to give primary benefit to said Tobacco Road (UNC and Duke, really). When Debbie Yow's budget was blowing up it became rather easy for MD to raise a middle finger down towards Charlotte (ACC HQ) re: a Grant of Rights.
