If Supreme Court rules in favor of NJ in Sports Gambling this morning, or later this week, look for Major College Conferences to soon follow NBA into securing 1% juice $ in partnership by giving access to ready-to-go Gambling website/orgs.

Brace for impact.

On my Twitter timeline you will see BTM about a month ago discuss how College Conferences will follow NBA into trading access for 1% of wagers if NJ wins in Surpreme Court.

Nobody else has picked up on this yet...sleeping at the wheel once again.

Why would anyone give the NBA or Big Ten 1%?

Other than in-arena play? Why would anyone else give them a penny?

There’s zero reason.

But the NBA thinks they can get this into legislation - it’s as if they don’t actually understand how gambling works.

BTM is not the first to break this particular event of “3 old pals talking”.

But for BTM it has moved from myth/rumor to real event.

It did happen.
It has real meaning.

Search for David Boren's successor: OU Board of Regents to appoint new president March 26

New University of Oklahoma President March 26.

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 43m43 minutes ago
If OU did choose the candidate for its new President, which has gathered the most steam,..they choosed a very successful individual in Business Management. If steam is true..very good choice for OU decision making in current & future landscape. IMHO.

There’s zero reason.

it's a smart play. a lot of legislatures will go for this

Following tweets are notes taken by me at tonight’s dinner with “The Source” - BTM.

Last week BTM once again broke a local Gopher story (Lucia) ahead of MN Press.

Now tonight he discusses “3 old pals” meeting in Kansas.

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 8h8 hours ago
BTM:

“In late February 2017 ,during Oklahoma and Kansas Basketball game, non official reps from all 3 Universities of Oklahoma, Kansas & Nebraska met in a planned informal meeting to discuss potential steps forward in Conference Realignment.”

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 8h8 hours ago
BTM:

“Completely unofficial meeting among non-employees of the 3 Universities, but significant. How do we know this happened? Because notes were taken”

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 8h8 hours ago
BTM:

“I know there were notes taken, not because I’ve seen them, but I know the party who has seen them when he was called to help guide the person (Nebraska unofficial rep) in answering follow up questions two weeks out after said meeting occurred”

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 8h8 hours ago
BTM:

“When did I find out about this meeting at Allen Fieldhouse?

4 days ago. How did I find out? Because of a what I do in my business, my job, I was curious and asked about a recent large donation to KU. The rest of info unraveled in my lap”

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 8h8 hours ago
BTM:

“Let’s take a step back. Few years ago Kansas and Oklahoma opened their books for Big Ten examination. This is not a secret. Opening the books at the time was never about the last Big Ten Expansion, but about the next one.”

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 8h8 hours ago
BTM:

“The last Big Ten Expansion was always going East. Delany was going to get Eastern population, Eastern Media to increase value of entire Conference. Delany always had 2 region conference concept for next Big Ten Expansion.”

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 8h8 hours ago
BTM:

“Big Ten back-channeled talked with Rutgers for over 6 years. No promises, but no secrets. Same is happening now with Kansas & Oklahoma. But there is one big and extremely telling and interesting difference”

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 8h8 hours ago
BTM:

“These back-channel talks (twice that we know of 1: Opened books 2013 2: Feb 2017)with Kansas & Oklahoma has been in tandem. Package deal. We do not know of any comparable examples of this long range back-channeling with a tandem before now.”

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 8h8 hours ago
BTM:

“Kansas & Oklahoma need to know what each other are doing if they want to keep their options going forward. They can’t go into their separate 3rd Tier negotiations in 2021 & 2022 without some sort of idea of how the other one is proceeding”

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 8h8 hours ago
BTM:

“As valuable as KU and OU are in brands, institutions, and economic centers in their respective states they both still need each other to gain invite to Big Ten. Both schools bring in value the other does not have. They jump every hurdle together”

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 8h8 hours ago
BTM:

“It’s why they had the meeting. Informal, planned meeting with non officials, non direct employees of Nebraska, Oklahoma & Kansas. The interest is mutual on all sides. It has been for quite sometime and the interest has not dissipated”

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 8h8 hours ago
BTM:

“None of these schools would set up a formal meeting with direct representation of each school at this time for it would endanger Kansas & Oklahoma financially because of its obvious violation of Big 12 bylaws when schools have entered Grant of Rights”

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 8h8 hours ago
BTM:

“Discussions, the meeting notes of February of 2017, centered around maximizing options of 3rd Tier rights for OU & KU leading up to potential Big Ten invite in 2023/24 for 2025 entry”

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 8h8 hours ago
BTM: “These rights are important. They involve multiple platforms within each institution. And they also differ from each other.”

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 8h8 hours ago
BTM:

“Questions were raised on how these next 3rd Tier negotiations OU & KU will be going through very shortly can have off ramps into Big Ten Network if possible”

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 7h7 hours ago
BTM:

“Discussions also included what are the options, not so much to shorten the 6 year investment into Big Ten Network, but if the off ramp from their own new 3rd Tier deals negotiated 2021/2022 can somehow be mixed into Big Ten Network on short term basis”

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 7h7 hours ago
BTM:

“Oklahoma & Kansas want to keep all options open, which includes staying with reformed Big 12. So it wants to work in concert with each other and *understandings* from Big Ten when moving into next 3rd Tier negotiations with ESPN, IMG or other media.”

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 7h7 hours ago
BTM:

“What is striking about this meeting, about this particular back-channel talks is Kansas & Oklahoma did it together. It’s no surprise it happened with Nebraska unofficial rep, but it’s meaningful Kansas & Oklahoma did it together.”

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 7h7 hours ago
BTM:

“When KU & OU and their Board of Regents look at their options for beyond 2025 when Big 12 Grant of Rights comes to completion, they will be looking at what they both hope is a reformed Big 12 Option & Big Ten Option. They will be doing it together.”

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 7h7 hours ago
BTM:

“There is a growing perception in Big Ten circles Oklahoma & Kansas do not have much Pro SEC or Pro PAC factions within their Board of Regents and for Oklahoma it’s Pro SEC donors have huge uphill climb against Oklahoma BOR.”

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 7h7 hours ago
BTM:

“But there is, and will continue to be, very strong voices at OU & KU to push reform in Big 12 and stay in Big 12 past 2025.”

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 7h7 hours ago
BTM:

“And this is the reason for back-channel talks. This is how OU and KU work in concert with each other during their upcoming separate 3rd Tier negotiations and keep clear options open for Big Ten invite and entry, and also keep a reformed Big 12 Option.

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 7h7 hours ago
BTM

“Big Ten interest is very high on expanding with Kansas & Oklahoma. The 16 School Conference has been war gamed out for years. It’s extra content it would provide to sell in Tier 1/2 market and 3rd Tier to Big Ten Network has been discussed throughly”

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 7h7 hours ago
BTM

“16 school Logistics, schedules, divisions, effect on non revenue sports, discussions with 51% owner of BTN FOX Sports, travel has all been on the table for years.”

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 7h7 hours ago
BTM

“The number 16 itself is not an issue. The right value-add with 15 & 16 have to be nailed to keep it a sweet spot. Current ripples in Big Ten, and Media partner FOX, is in favor of targeting Kansas & Oklahoma”

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 7h7 hours ago

New OU prez is pro Big 12, bullish on expansion and close ties to Colorado. Big 12 set to put the full press on easterly Pac 12 schools for Membership. Colorado, Arz., Arz State & a surprise BYU.

James L. Gallogly has a lot of influence over Colorado.

Christopher Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 5h5 hours ago
James L. Gallogly is a war time president. As in the Big 12 is going to war against the Pac 12. If the Big 12 can pry Colorado free from the Pac 12 they feel they can add the Arizona schools.

Christopher Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 5h5 hours ago
It Gallogly can help the Big 12 land Colorado then he doesnt share the academic concerns that kept OU out if the SEC.

Christopher Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 4h4 hours ago
The next 3 years will determine if the Big 12 folds or persists. They have to have viable (and valuable options) lined up for expansion before sitting down at the table with ESPN/Fox.

Christopher Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 1h1 hour ago
Exactly. Nobody is going to vote no.

Christopher Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 1h1 hour ago
In regards to B12 expansion we all need to think like TV execs & accountants & not fans. The Big 12 would welcome Colorado back in a NY minute because it means survival.

Christopher Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 1h1 hour ago
As for Colorado the financial need is there to look at a move. It depends on what the Big 12 can get from ESPN/Fox with additions from the P12. As always the key is profit differential. How much of an increase in revenues justifies the pain of the move? Thats TDB.

Christopher Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 1h1 hour ago
All I’m saying is the Big 12 plans to target P12 schools prior to the exclusive window with ESPN/Fox closing on the current TV deal. They need 2-4 more schools for the next TV contract.

Christopher Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 1h1 hour ago
If the P12 continues on the downward trend then it gets easier. Big 12 schools don’t see the P12 as a home because of the drastic loss in T3 revenue they would see as partners in the P12N.

Erik Fleak‏ @ATVOklahoma 2h2 hours ago
Wow. Who’d have thought the president of OU would have the power to singlehandedly re-align ALL of college football? Why doesn’t he just move ND, Bama and Ohio St in too? #HeDoesnt #Ridiculous #PutTheBongDown&WalkAway

Fascinating. Dude is explaining tonight that somehow Big 12 is in strong enough position to lure CO, AZ schools from PAC, but yet if they fail to lure P5 schools Big 12 will fold before next Media negotiations. Yep, that should sell well and give PAC targets confidence to move.

PAC12 schools only make $1M from PAC Networks deal. Some of those schools are operating in the red athletically. As shaky as the B12’s landscape has been, PAC is at a significant financial disadvantage—which is how the B1G landed Maryland

I have to this time. The last thing I want is drawn into the mess yet again. The B12 is in a much better spot than fans want to believe - especially OU fans.

Christopher Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 1h1 hour ago
Replying to @MarkKochenderfe
The difference this time is we know - for a certainty - that ESPN & Fox will not condone expansion with G5 schools. We also know of the unrest in the P12 & the money problems a few P12 schools are having.

Zain Mujtaba‏ @zainmujtaba 1h1 hour ago
If the choice comes down to death or expanding with worthless, brandless, G5 freeloaders, Big 12 death is the better option.

Christopher Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 1h1 hour ago
Nobody in the P12 is a freeloader. Really.

Zain Mujtaba‏ @zainmujtaba 56m56 minutes ago
P5 members are being paid a ton, so someone thinks they are worth P5 payouts. G5 members are paid a pittance, hence by definition any G5 added to a P5 has to be a freeloader!

Christopher Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 55m55 minutes ago
Big 12 can only expand by poaching the P12.

Julius Johnson‏ @JuliusJ85224635 4m4 minutes ago
What you are saying Dude, 1) Big 12 needs to expand before next TV deal or it fails because lack of footprint. 2) Big 12 can only poach PAC.G5 will not be allowed by media partners. If 1 & 2 are true, if PAC knows 1 & 2 true, why wouldn’t PAC stick together?

Pinpoint the P12’s issues. Big 12 failure would not benefit Pac 12.

Christopher Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 26m26 minutes ago
Adding T3 money the majority of the B12 will see from $10-$12M more each year than P12 schools.

Mark Kochenderfer‏ @MarkKochenderfe 11m11 minutes ago
I would agree the pac is weaker than the big 12. Terrible TV ratings, little interest in college sports on the West Coast, and duplicate markets. But due to geography it’s harder To see how it gets dismembered.

Mark Kochenderfer‏ @MarkKochenderfe 9m9 minutes ago
So what Will happen in five years? The only way one can make a prediction is to look at what’s actually possible.

Mark Kochenderfer‏ @MarkKochenderfe 5m5 minutes ago
Possibility one: nothing. No movement always has to be considered a strong possibility in expansion. Can you imagine the social media circus that power five movement would actually be? Can u imagine the political pressure on OU if OSU is going to be left in a zombie big 12? 1/2

Christopher Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 5m5 minutes ago
Replying to @MarkKochenderfe @JuliusJ85224635 @zainmujtaba
Big 12 needs expansion to keep pace.

Mark Kochenderfer‏ @MarkKochenderfe 9m9 minutes ago
Can you imagine Texas giving up the Longhorn network to be an equal partner in another conference? How do they extract themselves from the other Texas schools? Movement is difficult. More difficult today that even was six years ago.

Mark Kochenderfer‏ @MarkKochenderfe 4m4 minutes ago
Possibility to: pac 16 arrangement. Ou and OSU along with Texas and tech go West. This is less appealing now than it was in 2011. Their network is a failure and their TV ratings and attendance lag behind B12. 1/2

Mark Kochenderfer‏ @MarkKochenderfe 2m2 minutes ago

Mark Kochenderfer‏ @MarkKochenderfe 42m42 minutes ago
Possibility 3: Texas/OU go to the Big Ten. For this to be a reality they would have to overcome the barriers mentioned under possibility one of breaking free from the other in-state schools. Not an expert on state politics but would have to be difficult.1/2

Mark Kochenderfer‏ @MarkKochenderfe 39m39 minutes ago
The state of Oklahoma in particular is small and the OSU backers would have enough juice to try to stop ou from leaving. If OSU doesn’t have a landing place in a true P5 conference not sure OU can get out if past expansion is any guide.2/3

Christopher Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 39m39 minutes ago
Replying to @MarkKochenderfe @JuliusJ85224635 @zainmujtaba
The legit threat against the Big 12 is ESPN/Fox decide not to pay a premium.

Christopher Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 31m31 minutes ago
Replying to @MarkKochenderfe @JuliusJ85224635 @zainmujtaba
Texas is very happy. OU is only unhappy because Texas is happy. OU’s markets are just as problematic to the B1G as lack of AAU. SEC wants OU but OU knows what that would mean.

Mark Kochenderfer‏ @MarkKochenderfe 32m32 minutes ago
Perhaps the big 10 would try to lessen the blow to other schools by guaranteeing the big 12 a spot in the power five for the next 20 years. It would become like the old Big East. A power conference in name only

Mark Kochenderfer‏ @MarkKochenderfe 28m28 minutes ago
Possibility 4: Big 12 take from the pac 12. P 12 is in such poor financial shape the schools feel move must b made to solidify the future.

Christopher Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 27m27 minutes ago
Replying to @MarkKochenderfe @JuliusJ85224635 @zainmujtaba
Some type of merger is equally pluaseable.

Mark Kochenderfer‏ @MarkKochenderfe 27m27 minutes ago
This probably has more legs then it gets credit for. If the ACC and B 12 are pulling behind in the B12 is dying. But the question for me is what schools. A Colorado or Arizona or Arizona State type schools don’t move the needle enough.

Replying to @MarkKochenderfe @JuliusJ85224635 @zainmujtaba
By the way a merger is the only logical outcome for both the P12 & the B12 if they want to survive. Can ESPN force WVU on the ACC & will egos allow it.

Christopher Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 18m18 minutes ago
Replying to @MarkKochenderfe @JuliusJ85224635 @zainmujtaba
ESPN would have to arrange WVU to the ACC. The move might force ND to ACC too.

Texas prefers the Big 12. So does OU. The money has to be there.

Christopher Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 9m9 minutes ago
Replying to @MarkKochenderfe @JuliusJ85224635 @zainmujtaba
My opinion is this... in the end ESPN & Fox will continue to pay the Big 12 enough to keep them 3rd in earnings because UT & OU moving would set off consolidation & a phenomenal increase (to the level of the NFL) in rights fees.

Not a Tweet, but totally Non-Key:

"DO YOU THINK THERE WILL EVER BE ANOTHER EDITION OF REALIGNMENT LIKE THERE WAS YEARS AGO, AND WHO WOULD BE THE TEAMS LIKELY TO MOVE?"

Mandel more or less just made fun of the all-caps question, but I'll take a thoughtful stab at it.

It's impossible to predict whether or not something massive as the Great Realignment will occur again. I will say realignment on some scale is probably never going to stop happening, and there are rumblings once again that the Big 12 would like to expand.

If they do take two more, my prediction (this is pure speculation, based on zero rumors or anything I've read) naturally look towards the American Athletic Conference. The first team they will take is UConn. The addition of West Virginia proves that geography matters not to the conference, and having no one that can raise their football profile any further that's willing to join, they will look instead at a program that raises, at least in a historical sense, their basketball profile and instantly give them the best women's basketball program in the country.

The second team will come down to Houston or Temple; in the end, they'll take Temple because they want that new market. If they drag their feet on expansion for a couple years and UCF stays as dominant as they were last year in that time, they'll get a long look, as well.
