I think osubuckeyes27 is incorrect when he said that Delaney mentioned "continuing expansion".
I found the transcript on the B1G website, including questions from reporters. No mention of expansion.

He does mention AAU:
"What makes it really work is that these are peer institutions, major research, AAU members."

Regarding facilities:
"People have suggested that when we have been involved in expansion, there have been expectations or suggestions or recommendations about facilities. And I can tell you that has never been true whether it's Penn State or whether it was Nebraska, Rutgers, or Maryland."

http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools...auto_pdf/2015-16/misc_non_event/delanyjim.pdf

This sentence can easily be taken out of context if one was trying to:

>>"In 2016, we will establish ‑‑ not in 2015, but in 2016, our scheduling format. We call it Strength of Schedule 1910. We'll have one major intersectional game each year against an autonomy conference. We'll have nine conference games, which allows us to play each other on a more regular basis, which I think is important as conferences expand. "

In the document was this, which could be what OSbuckeye was referencing:

Interesting read. Oliver Luck says WVU had no shot at getting invited to ACC.

http://www.connect-bridgeport.com/c...ance-and-Failure-to-Renew-Backyard-Brawl17619

“That’s probably fair to say that was it,” said Luck when asked about the paramount moment of his time at WVU. “At the end of the day conference affiliation is essential for a program.”

Luck took it one step further, however, in describing just how essential it was as he could see the Big East beginning the sideway swim toward its inevitable football demise

“When you had Pitt and Syracuse leave and TCU deciding not to join, it was an existential threat to the University,” said Luck. “When you think about it, to a certain degree on an athletic front it was a threat to the state, particularly when you consider there are no pro teams. It would have been a major blow had you not been able to find a spot in what they’re calling now a Power 5
conference."

And... "The door to the Big 10 was never open either and it had nothing to do with a slight at WVU. Luck said he had, and still has, a great relationship with Commissioner Jim Delaney, but that WVU simply did not have Association of American University status."

It's at 7:30 here: http://btn.com/2015/07/31/big-tens-jim-delany-eyes-true-balance-between-athletics-academics/

It's so quick that it didn't even register with me the first time I watched.

Also see the TV contract talk at 20:30. He certainly doesn't deny that tOSU winning it all might be a factor.

In reading the transcript of Delany's comments, there are no scraps of hope hiding in there.

And the "Dude" and his "sources" go down in flames tonight since Luck came out with the truth and the "Dude" was wrong on it all.

Very sobering article. They were very close to being exactly where we are. The dollar difference going forward is never any less staggering, regardless how many times you hear it.

I really do wonder just when exactly the clock stikes 12, when the $ difference is so dramatic over the course of a decade.

We can't last a decade. I don't think we can even last five years.

Something tells Olly Luck is going to be getting a call from The Dude and informing him that "his sources" have confirmed that he is wrong about everything he said in that article

I agree personally, but everything has gone against us, the latest cable cord cutting trend that is really being led by millenials and is causing the likes of ESPN to cinch their belts is the latest example.

I think osubuckeyes27 is incorrect when he said that Delaney mentioned "continuing expansion".
I heard the quote in question while watching Delany's interview on BTN. He said the 9 conference game schedule is not for the fans, but to accommodate continuing conference expansion. That's almost verbatim. Delany also had an impish grin on his face when he said it.

That quoted money difference of up to $100 million.....is about the same difference between the B1G and the Big 12/ACC over the same time.

With 16 teams, 9 games allows 2 divisions of 8, 7 games in division and 2 cross-division, games played against every team every 4 years; or 4 pods of 4, 3 games in pod and 2 games in every other pod yearly, games played against every team every 2 years. If frequently seeing Michigan / Ohio State etc on the schedule is important, then I expect they'll go to a 4-pod setup, which would need CCG deregulation. Maybe they would have semifinals among the pod champions to determine the CCG teams?

So if Luck is correct, every expansion move to date had to do with geography above all else with a dash of desperation thrown in.

If WVU wasn't good enough for the ACC or B1G, certainly not the SEC. Then the B12 took them because they were the best closest program.

The ACC took Louisville because they were the best closest program.

The B1G took MD and RU because they were the best (cable box) closest programs.

Just reinforces how dumb the ACC was to pick BC, Cuse, and Pitt. Neither good, nor close.

I know this is rehashing old stuff...but if the ACC had taken UCONN and Rutgers..the B-12 would have been left withWVU, Louisville and Pitt. The ACCN would most likely be off the ground and making serious money with the NYC cable market. DAMN YOU Dick Blumenthal...that one time you should have walked away from that camera...

Well, your first mistake is thinking that Dick would ever walk away from an opportunity to get in front of a camera.

For the B12 to get a network, they need the biggest market schools they can find. It would be ironic if B12 got a network and ACC didn't because the ACC took small-market Louisville and the B12 got big-market UConn.

I've had the same brief thought. If the B12 added UConn and BYU, those are, BY FAR, the two biggest brands left outside of the G5. Throw in UCF (good FL market+ FL recruiting) and Cincinnati (decent market + OH recruiting) and now you have exposure in very large markets: NYC (UConn), Orlando/Tampa (UCF), all of Texas/Oklahoma. Throw in national appeal of BYU and a bit of the Ohio/western PA/Washington DC corridor from a WVU/Cinci combo and you have enough markets and content that can stretch over 3 timezones. Heck, they could make it clean and add 2 more like Houston/Temple and Boise St and now you'd have even more markets and more football appeal. Plus, with UConn and Kansas anchoring the winter months, year-round content that fans all across the country can (and will actually want to) watch.

But that assumes that the B12 has removed their heads out of their rumps. That's a mighty strong assumption.

Suppose the B12 dissolves because it can't form a network with only Texas as a major cable market, and the ACCN can't get off the ground with only North Carolina, Virginia, and maybe Florida as markets. With TV agreements expiring at the same time, they might consider a re-arrangement in which the schools that bring major cable markets regroup and leave behind those that don't.

What about this league:
Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Iowa State, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Clemson, UNC, NC State, Duke, Va Tech, Virginia, UConn (13 teams) + Notre Dame with an indy/ACC-like deal would be a good nucleus and they'd have a number of other schools to consider for 3 more to get to 16. You could get a network out of that.

I suppose you'd lose some (maybe SEC takes NC State and Va Tech to have penetration throughout the southeast; maybe B1G picks off a few - Kansas and UConn?). But you'd still get a conference network out of the best of the B12 and ACC.

You're talking a looooooooooong way away. If all this happens, I think UConn is in the B1G long before any sort of ACC/B12 combo play. My 5 year plan (read: opinion) is in Year 3 now.

I agree. I think we're ticketed as #15 for the B1G once the TV deal is negotiated and CCG deregulated and partner emerges ... but timing is obscure. Ideally they take us in 2017 for 2019 entry regardless with an indy football arrangement until #16 is found. Kansas, Oklahoma, or some other school would be 16 eventually.

But I think the ACC-B12 best-of scenario could play out in 2025 or so, with whoever is still available.

Why Texas leaving the Big XII might not be a bad idea.
http://www.stakingtheplains.com/2015/08/03/shouldthetexaslonghornsleavethebig12/

There are holes in this article big enough that even Brandon Jacobs could get through.

For starters, if the writer thinks that UT could leave the Big 12 in football and remain a member in Olympic sports, he's absolutely nuts. There is no way the Big 12 would let Texas get away with that. There's no mention in his post of what would happen to UT's Olympic Sports at all.

Secondly, if Texas goes Independent, do you really think OU sticks around the Big 12 at that point? Sure they would be the biggest fish in the pond now, but with the Longhorns gone even more luster is off the already depleted conference. They'd be punching their first ticket to the B1G or SEC.

Interesting pipe dream, but no chance this happens.

Generally a program with more dollars than common sense(no thanks to oil money).

Based on what?

If they wanted us for the 2017 season, would we have had to have given notice by now?

No, the idea is they would want us for the 2019-2020 season, we would give 27 months notice, so spring 2017 notice.
