The Big 10 is going to expand again...why? Because all organizations expand if it brings in more money, influence, power and stability.

Greg Flugaur‏@flugempire 3h3 hours ago
The Big 10 in the short term had to once again give up some of its today's dollars (BTN $) give to Rutgers & UMD to cushion blow.

Greg Flugaur @flugempire · 3h 3 hours ago
The Big 10 is not interested in what it can harvest for todays crops. The Big 10 wants to buy more land and bigger plows and what not.

The Big 10 Presidents scoreboard is Research Dollars and potential Research Dollars. Delany will not put forward a school to the Prez.....

Greg Flugaur‏@flugempire 3h3 hours ago
...unless the scoreboard looks good. UCONN just lit up the scoreboard today. I'm not predicting or saying UCONN to the Big 10 in 2019.

@expansion_crush I don't think so, but a lot of it depends on the B1G new 2017 teir 1 TV contract...what that actually does to landscape.

@CTMike78 I think my tweets bore people to death. Big Ten Presidents loved the research $ of RUT and UMD beyond all other variables.........

Greg Flugaur‏@flugempire 2h2 hours ago
@CTMike78 Delany only put forward RUT & UMD as candidates for votes in expansion. Delany worked out a few other scenarios....but....

Greg Flugaur‏@flugempire 2h2 hours ago
@CTMike78 ...he only put forward the combo he knew the Presidents who vote %100 yes on. UCONN is turning into a Big 10 flagship research...

Greg Flugaur‏@flugempire 2h2 hours ago
@CTMike78 I don't think many people outside of CT knows whats going on at UCONN. But its significant. UCONN is using their advantages...

Delaney better spend some time figuring out why the majority of teams in the big 10 are below 50 in the rankings. You can have all the tv's you want to but if you want them on you need better football.

Not for nothing, but the B1G is represented in the Playoff. Ask the B12 how they feel about their football right now.

Why take USF and UCF both? USF's market of Tampa is mostly retirees without local athletic allegiances. UCF would provide 80% of the USF-UCF combo.

But I agree, if it is TV households you want, UConn and UCF or BYU would be the way to go. UConn, UCF, BYU, Cincy if you go to 14 gets you in the 5 million household range.

I believe the premise was take UCF and get both the Orlando and Tampa markets.

Absolutely, the Big 10 is down in football right now. But football isn't what keeps conferences healthy and growing. There's a reason you never really hear about anyone leaving or possibly leaving the Big Ten.

A lot of the traditional football programs in the Big Ten are down. But with the right hires, they should be right back to being a top football conference.

Penn State- The sanctions are coming off. Recruits should be returning. Hopefully they grow.

Michigan- They need to get the right coach. I think they can.

Nebraska- Will have to wait and see about Riley. But again, with change comes opportunity.

Wisconsin- Gary Andersen was a solid coach. Should be interesting to see who their next hire is.

Minnesota showed major growth this year. MSU and OSU are going to be strong for awhile.

The Big Ten doesn't need every team to be great in football. No conference has that. But if just a couple programs with rich traditions return to a high level, the Big Ten will be fine.

The BIG champion still made the playoffs anyways and I don't see the conference being much weaker than it was this year.

True it was a down year overall for the B1G. Several of my neighbors who are all Rutgers alumni were very pleased with their record in their first year playing football in the B1G; but, admitted that they were lucky in that Michigan and Penn St. are down right now. Of course, as they know I am a UConn Alumni, I kept quiet and drank my beer.

ME: You guys will let bygones be bygones, right?

Under the golden rule, i.e. the ACC will do whatever it takes to screw UConn the most, if the ACC expands, it will take either 1) Cincinnati to expand their Midwest presence, or 2) Navy as a football member (maybe lax, too) with the rest of Navy’s athletic teams stay parked in the Patriot and then take Georgetown in all other sports. That would provide a marquee football name, make ND really happy as that could count as one of their ACC conference games, make the old Big E teams, specially Syracuse, really happy in basketball, while filling in the space that Maryland’s departure created.

This was where ND was supposed to carry us into the ACC with them for all of our good intentions over the solid wall of fear, envy and sour grapes of our former league mates. Rejoice!

The 3 tradition games for ND are Michigan, USC and Navy. I assume the 4th game would be a floater for the NBC contract. Is this accurate?

They may have to give up the floater or the ACC stays at 8 games. The Navy/Georgetown scenario make sense.

The Michigan game is no longer being played.

It's on the schedule for 2015. Is that the last one?

Then ND needs games for the NBC contract.

Michigan is not on the 2015 contract. That was under the old deal that was cancelled.

Since then, ND has scheduled series with Texas, Georgia, Arizona State, Ohio State and others.

You left Stanford off the "Must be Played" games. ND alternates home/homes with Southern Cal and Stanford so that it always finishes the regular season in California.

Michigan and ND cancelled their series for now. I think it depends on which fanbase you're talking to to try to figure out who is more responsible.

I think OOC games that ND would like to schedule more often than not (assuming their conference would be the ACC), would be: USC, Stanford, Navy, 1 local B1G school (Purdue, MSU, Mich, etc).

Like @TerryD already said, ND has already really beefed up their OOC schedule for the next few years.

I would like this too...but am FAR too lazy to put it together. UCONN jumps up into the Top 30 I would think, right?

You guys would be 30-35 based on a $15-20 million increase in revenue, as would Cincinnati. To be fair, we both might be pulling just a bit too much of our revenue out of student fees subsidizing athletics (which I'm not a huge fan of...), so I'd expect some of that revenue to actually come in a decrease in the pull on student fees (18 million for UConn, 21 million for UC).

But at least neither of us are Rutgers where over half your athletic department comes from ripping off students and/or loans (47 million/79 million). UNLV is next in line with 36 million out of 63 million.

The real shame in this realignment mess is that its selectively hurting institutions of academic learning for the sake of financial enrichment of a few Universities based off of football prowess in the past and "School Spirit".

Don't forget the increase in money from interest in the games.

Thank God for Fluguar. He may well be full of crap, but at least it is hopeful vaguely plausible crap.

If nothing else, it's spreading the word to how many followers he has of some of the things that UCONN has going for it in CR. If they tell 10 people and those people tell 10 people...it will take 1,000 years for this information to reach critical mass.

anytime I see Flugaur's name, this runs through my mind:
"Go ahead, make your jokes, Mr. Jokey... Joke-maker. But let me hit you with some knowledge. Quit now. Save yourself the embarrassment of losing with these losers in Las Vegas, La Fleur."

Uconn to the B1G with in 18 months. If it is on the internet it must be true. Right? So I am putting it on the internet. Please Please Please BE TRUE!!

FOX has pledged to rework the B12 contract if the additions can increase the conference's national footprint by 1 timezone and at least 25%

MH3 @MH3 · 21h 21 hours ago
Big12 currently has a footprint of a paltry 16 million tv households. So any additions will have to add at least 4 million more

MH3 @MH3 · 21h 21 hours ago
The extra timezone gives Fox an extra slot to put a B12 match-up in every other week.
