How does BY get the coveted BE bball tourney days in MSG? Could he blow up the bball-centric BE enough?
The ACC has a similar problem to the big east in that its media partner has a vested interest in weakening it. Essentially they can lowball offer and say take it or leave it.The ACC has a similar problem to the BE back when it was a hybrid conference. There are too many weak sisters that need protection for the conference to act as boldly as necessary to go toe to toe with the B1G and SEC. The B-12 was temporarily in a favorable situation but that will be gone by the end of this decade and when they need to negotiate their next media deal they'll be in a situation similar to where the PAC was the past few months.
Pat Forde, ultimately, is not a UConn friend in realignment....
Exactly. It should be very obvious to everyone now that big media wants to shed the weak from the strong (hence the gutting of the PAC in a 12 month window after the departure of USC/UCLA. The ACC is next to be gutted to leave behind BC, Wake, etc.The ACC has a similar problem to the big east in that its media partner has a vested interest in weakening it. The ACC has another more critical problem, however, in that that members see they have dramatically more lucrative opportunities outside the conference and are publicly talking about their desire to leave. To be honest, I will be surprised if their current membership stays intact all the way through 2036. From 2030 on, they're vulnerable and will become more vulnerable with each passing year.
Still, they're in a better position than we are.
Remember that BY expressly said that the big 12 will not offer a partial membership to a school that currently has an FBS football team. I think we're either all the way in or all the way out of the big 12.Exactly. That said, we have to take either a Big12 (as long as it includes at least a FB scheduling component) or an ACC offer (all sports) in order to show off an improved football program.
Yes, agreed. I think there are several variations that could occur with the Big12 (or the ACC). Seems like the Big12 and ACC are realizing or soon will realize that the old, straight forward paradigms are or should be soon a thing of the past. Look at the deal that OR/WA just took from the Big10 (partial shares with one million dollar increases until the next media contract gets written).Remember that BY expressly said that the big 12 will not offer a partial membership to a school that currently has an FBS football team. I think we're either all the way in or all the way out of the big 12.
That said, on hypothetical basis, the devil is always in the details, right? So what would the big 12 offer us the "Notre Dame deal"? 20% of their $31 million value for all sports would be 6 1/2 million dollars. That's not enough. In fact it's barely break even after you consider the additional expenses, of what we're currently making in the Big East. We could actually make more money by returning to the American for all sports.
Now if they want to offer us 20 million for our basketball only? God bless, of course we would take that, but that makes zero sense from their perspective. On the other hand if they offered us 20 million for a full membership with a path to a full share, and we'd have to consider it.
Again, the devil's in the details.

That’s a joke.We have no chance here. In listing potential candidates for the ACC, they listed the four Pac schools along with JAMES MADISON AND APPALACHIAN STATE.
We clearly don't have the value to these conferences that we think we do.
Yeah, but the Big Ten has a big enough distribution that that becomes an attractive enough alternative to schools. Remember that OR/WA barely took that deal even though they were on board a rapidly sinking ship.Yes, agreed. I think there are several variations that could occur with the Big12 (or the ACC). True, though I am inclined to believe that he absolutely did want us, and maybe still does. I just think he could get buy-in from his board while the Pac 12 was having a going out of business sale.He also said he wants to get into the northeast, then spurned us for Arizona State and Utah. I wouldn't believe everything he says when he's essentially in a negotiation.
James Madison and Appalachian State provide way more value than UConn. Huge fanbases and always a threat to win national championships. We have no chance here. In listing potential candidates for the ACC, they listed the four Pac schools along with JAMES MADISON AND APPALACHIAN STATE.

Sounds like when it comes to the ACC and UConn, it's a hard no, to the point of not even being worthy of mention as a possibility. There's no way we're objectively worse candidates than Appalachian State or JMU, so it's obviously personal. It's been made clear to those covering realignment news that we are NOT welcome in the ACC, no matter what. Enough of them hate us that we're personae non grata. We have no chance here. Stop and think for a second. We have no chance here. In listing potential candidates for the ACC, they listed the four Pac schools along with JAMES MADISON AND APPALACHIAN STATE.

Fixed it for youThe acc’s hate manifests with each title we win. Just wait until we surpass UNC. It will be glorious.
I think their deal was basically agreed to earlier this year when the Big10 had vetted and cleared those schools for acceptance. This week was simply the last t crossings and i dottings.Yeah, but the Big Ten has a big enough distribution that that becomes an attractive enough alternative to schools. Remember that OR/WA barely took that deal even though they were on board a rapidly sinking ship.
If that's true then there was some last minute kabuki theater because they apparently publicly rejected a partial deal offer.I think their deal was basically agreed to earlier this year when the Big10 had vetted and cleared those schools for acceptance.
