ACC had a meeting scheduled for last night. Presumably to add PAC schools. They had to cancel the meeting because the Big 12 and B1G completely devoured the PAC before they could have a meeting.

That is how "quick the ACC acts".

On the surface, it appears that the ACC is a dead man walking. What can they possibly do to move the needle? If they remain idle and just allow their petulant child to consistently kick and scream, they will have a similiar fate to the PAC 12. They need to act, they need to find some niche that makes them at least as viable as the Big 12. If you are going to be a disruptor, go big. Think long term and think fit. Add Stanford, UConn, and Cal for football/basketball. Add Gonzaga, Villanova, Georgetown, and St. Johns for hoops.

But ESPN won't pay for that. Exactly. Disney is desperately looking to partner Espn with a streamer. Iger covets Apple. This new league and content would be the perfect marriage. It also protects the ACC when the bigger schools leave.

There are too many weak sisters that need protection for the conference to act as boldly as necessary to go toe to toe with the B1G and SEC. The B-12 was temporarily in a favorable situation but that will be gone by the end of this decade and when they need to negotiate their next media deal they'll be in a situation similar to where the PAC was the past few months.

When it happened, Swofford felt he hit the jackpot by landing ND with a GOR that ran until 2036 and an agreement that if they were to join a conference for football it would have to be the ACC (unless they left the conference, which the GOR made nearly impossible). The thought process was that at some point ND would have to join a football conference and that alone would place the ACC on equal footing with the B1G and SEC.

The truth is that ND will not become an all sports member anywhere other than the B1G (and that will not happen until they have no other choice) and the GOR now appears as a prison sentence to schools like Clemson and FSU while also being an enforcer/protection for schools like Wake, BC and Syracuse.

The decision breaks down to:

Do you want to leave being a major player making more than adequate money with an engaged fan base following a winning program?

Or

Do you want to be a minor to non player making more money with a disengaged fan base following a losing program?

I’ll take the first choice. Ask Missouri, Syracuse, BC, Pitt fans what they think. Once the blown up P5 egos deflate, reality of being a non factor sets in. And interest evaporates.
