Keep in mind Christopher Lambert lives in his mom's basement and is never right about anything.........
Of course RU was a financial goldmine by giving the B10 the ability to elevated in the coveted NYC DMA. Yeah RU is a competitive suckfest, but they were brought in for geography, not competitive sports. By that measure, which is the measure used by the B10 front office RU has been a ringing success. The P5 likely are taking a very close look at how Louisville, Rutgers, and to a lesser extent Maryland have ended up being poor additions in certain capacities. RU is obviously a competitive disaster for the B1G and has not moved the TV needle.

Agree. RU brought the NYC DMA plus another 3M or so in additional potential subscribers (9M total population in NJ vs. 3M in CT), AAU status, and was contiguous. CT brought the NYC DMA, plus another million or so additional subscribers (FFC is @ 2M and already in the NYC DMA) and great men's and women's basketball but wasn't AAU or contiguous. The B1G chose RU.Rutgers is AAU and with its merger with UMDNJ brought a lot of research dollars to the B1G, especially in health sciences where Rutgers has a natural history due to J&J, BMS, etc.

Regarding the quote above, is this just speculation? I remember vaguely that hospital money 'doesn't count' for AAU research, though I don't remember why.
It all depends on how the system is organized. That was the big issue with Nebraska. Their research hospital was put under a different campus and they couldn’t count that in their metrics. Here’s the thing, if the Michigan; and Wisconsin (the schools that wanted Nebraska out and led the charge) wanted them in, the hospital wouldn’t have mattered. It was the means for removing them. Rutgers was already part of the AAU before they were granted the hospital system so it really didn’t matter to the Big10 schools.
I would love having UConn in the Big10 right now. Games against you all would be a blast, especially with the success we’ve had lately. Achieving your status as a basketball power would be an honor.
Sort of. That conflates the Queens College history which had been closed for a few years before it's assets were bought by the school that became Rutgers, IIRC.As for Rutgers itself, Rutgers was established as a private college back in Colonial days and was later bailed out of bankruptcy by the State of New Jersey
Its a good point. A while back, someone told me that there's also a division between medical dollars used for actual procedures, say open heard surgery, versus dollars spend on pharma and medical sciences. I do not know the numbers; but, with Merck, J&J, BMS, Celgene, etc. all in Rutgers' backyard, I have to assume there is a lot of money spend on health sciences at Rutgers.
As for Rutgers itself, Rutgers was established as a private college back in Colonial days and was later bailed out of bankruptcy by the State of New Jersey and emerged as a strange pubic-private university that in time became the state's flagship land-grand university. UMDNJ was established by the state entirely separate from Rutgers; but, the two grew closer over time before the state finally merged then a few years back.
That's just nonsense. No chance that happens!I believe the year 2018 will end on December 31st. And we will move to 2019 soon after. You heard it hear first. No dinner with BTM.
BTM = Blue Tongue Man?Spoke with BTM by phone. Everyone listen up big news. Really big news ! The sun will rise in east in the morning and set in the west ! You heard it here first- so says BTM .
He's having dinner with BTM. Must be Big Tool Man.
I just don't see OU or Texas wanting to go to BIG and having to play in the cold weather along with going through tOSU, UM, Wisconsin, etc
They have a cake walk right now in Big XII and would have the same plus better weather in PAC
I guess I don’t understand this whole weather issue. Our weather here in Michigan is not a frozen tundra during football season. In Ann Arbor, the average temperature in September is 75 degrees, October is 62 and November is 48. The last games would be played the weekend of Thanksgiving and they won’t be playing in the North. Michigan plays OSU, Wisconsin plays Minnesota and the like. My guess is Oklahoma would be playing Nebraska that weekend. Texas would find someone like PSU to play that last weekend.
To me, weather is a non factor. Money is. Will the Big12 get the money it has now? Can PAC get out of its money issues? The Big10 has no money issues. If the Big12 can secure the money they have now plus more, it’s best for them to stay. If not, they need to bolt. If the PAC can’t fix their money issues, they are a non starter.
I agree. While the folks down South may whine about the weather, it's a non-factor. After all, Dallas itself is not immune from some really nasty cold weather . It's about Money and Power. As long as Texas and Oklahoma receive a competitive pay-out from the XII and have an above average chance of making it to the Playoffs (versus slogging through the B1G or SEC), they will stay in the XII. If that changes, they then will move.
Just note Power can have different shades. The XII and SEC are all about football power. The ACC takes into consideration basketball, too. The B1G is very interested in academic power, also.
Texas and oklahoma wouldn't be the alpha dogs in the BIG, that is also a shade of power. They would be alphas by staying put or going to PAC 12.
Weather is most certainly an issue regardless of what BIG homers think. 50 degrees which is fine for northerners and great lakes area isn't fine for those living in texas and oklahoma
