Agreed to a point, except Boren has already boxed himself into a corner by proclaiming that it's all 3 things or nothing. It's gonna be tough to back off that statement, and he doesn't seem like the type to back off a position.

If he gets 2 out of 3 it demonstrates what a reasonable team player he is in the near term and keeps his options open later on if it appears the B12 is still falling behind even with a network and championship game.

Boren's silence lasts less than two weeks. Says vote on Big 12 expansion could come this summer http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/14789697

@theDudeofWV looks like your right Chris. OU is to afraid to move. But now they have grounds to leave and leverage

Christopher Lambert ‏@theDudeofWV · 2h2 hours ago
@NebGradDubDub Two weeks was about what I called right?

Doug ‏@NebGradDubDub · 2h2 hours ago
@theDudeofWV I'll give credit where credits do. But...OU has created 3 legal grounds in which to break GOR and leave. OU driving the bus

Christopher Lambert‏@theDudeofWV
@NebGradDubDub they have not. Legal grounds are restricted to the contracts and bylaws. If its not in writing it's not applicable.

Doug ‏@NebGradDubDub · 2h2 hours ago
@theDudeofWV 1. Conference network. 2. Championship game. 3. Expansion. It's cleverly laid out. Well done by David Boren.

Doug ‏@NebGradDubDub · 2h2 hours ago
@theDudeofWV it's publicly stated that Oklahoma wants the B12 to survive. Under 3 conditions of course

Christopher Lambert ‏@theDudeofWV · 2h2 hours ago
@NebGradDubDub LOL... those 3 conditions are the only way the Big 12 survives. You know that, I know that... everyone does.

Christopher Lambert ‏@theDudeofWV · 2h2 hours ago
@NebGradDubDub Doug, none of those things are grounds because they were all conditions that were present when OU signed the GoR.

Christopher Lambert ‏@theDudeofWV · 2h2 hours ago
@NebGradDubDub Only breach of contact voids the GoR. None of those breach the contract and the GoR.

Lol.

Agreed.

This dude is worshiped by some Michigan Chumps the same way that certain clueless Buck nuts slobber all over Nevadabuck's knob.

This just in... The B1G will launch the first MEGA SUPER 20 CONFERENCE. I've got confirmation that the 6 targets are Texas, Oklahoma, ND, UNC, UVA, and FSU. Further expansion to 24 is on the horizon with the additions of USC, UCLA, UGA, and Bama all but confirmed.

Until UConn attains AAU status the B1G IMHO will be out of the conversation.

AAU Membership is simply a cover story to appease the academics of The B1G. Delany is a businessman, and college sports are a billion dollar business. He is going to make decisions that make the conference money. Everybody knows that if ND wanted all in tomorrow, he would be in South Bend on Friday hosting a press conference. ND will never be a member of The AAU, so therefore the necessity for this classification is a myth.

I'd say that's a solid no. Not only do the B1G make up only a small percentage of those schools, the majority of the schools are academics first and could give two sh!ts about the B1G's athletic aspirations. Plus even if they do decide to vote for new members, they aren't going to "skip" over more viable candidates to choose who the B1G wants.
My point is that the Big Ten saddled themselves with the arbitrary rule that any invite must also be AAU. The Big Ten was formed to make athletic scheduling easier. No other organization is enforcing the AAU criteria on the Big Ten, nor could they care much less, least of all an academic association. If selling content to the NYC DMA is sooooo important and UConn is the final access point to it, the Big Ten should be able to find a way around their own arbitrary rules. After all, they invited a school who they knew ouster from the AAU was imminent. If not, they can only blame themselves if they lose out.

That said, I absolutely believe that an invite to the Big XII does not necessarily close the Big Ten door with respect to UConn.

Well then he's a good public liar. Are you taking the stance that if offered a spot in the B-12 that UConn should say thanks but we are gonna wait for a B1G offer that is probably a HUGE pipe dream?

If I may, I've never read anyone even hinting at that. Step 1: Get a P-5 conference Invite. Step 2: Accept. Step 3: Continue academic and athletic growth to improve P-5 profile.

If all 3 happen simultaneously, so be it (i.e. preemptive Big Ten invite). If not, these steps must be done in order.

Bowlsby and rest of #Big12, especially #UT, doesn't want anyone know they caved in to Boren's demands...but they did, thankfully!!

GregSwai mShow@GSwai m
If you really want to know what got #UT's attention to finally ok #Big12 changes, it was #SEC talking to Boren about the #Sooners.

ME: This I might buy, being that OU would have trouble joining the B10 if AAU is still a concern.

@AndrewWamugi it will be more than that but UNC will be the first domino to fall and the one doing most of the talking(along with Duke)

If AAU status is a requirement for entry, they have the wrong side of Comm. Ave: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Association_of_American_Universities#Membership

lol are they just gonna pack up and leave? the day someone voluntarily leaves the Big 10 I'll run around in circles for an hour.

Completely agree. While BC is a very good school, and is listed as a Carnegie Tier 1 school (http://www.bc.edu/bc-web/bcnews/cam...arch-classification-among-doctoral-unive.html), the are not strong in STEM, do not have an engineering school nor a medical school (BU has both), Thus, BC's chances of becoming AAU are almost nill. That said, AAU is just one of the B1G's key components, if ND asked into the B1G tomorrow, they would be in AAU or not.

The B1G also has no religiously-affiliated schools, so BC as a Jesuit school would be a bit of a cultural sore thumb. ND, of course, would be a welcomed exception to this norm if they were interested. This B1G stuff smells like a lot of rumor-mongering to create more Twitter interest/followers in light of the legitimate smoke coming from the B12 that's driving up their tweet views.

I would buy the premise that the Big12 expanding and gaining a network would rattle the cage of the ACC who doesn't look like they'll get theirs any time soon.

Would definitely fit Delaney's MO to capitalize on the momentum of the BIG12 to kick the tires on his ACC jewels.

That said, I don't believe anything veer says.

Northwestern was originally affiliated with United Methodist Church, FWIW.

So was nearly every original Colonial college:
  • New College/Harvard = Congregational > Private
  • William & Mary = Anglican > Public
  • Collegiate/Yale = Congregational > Private
  • College of New Jersey/Princeton = Presbyterian > Private
  • King's College/Colombia = Anglican > Private
  • College of Pennsylvania/UPenn = Anglican > Private
  • College of Rhode Island/Brown = Baptist > Private
  • Queen's College/Rutgers = Protestant > Public
  • Dartmouth = Congregational > Private
  • Free School/U Delaware = Non-Sectarian > Public
  • Pittsburgh Academy = Non-Sectarian > Public
  • College of Charleston = Anglican > Public

ND has been targeted for conference membership on multiple occasions despite not being a member of The AAU. That directly contradicts the idea that schools must be AAU Affiliated in order to be considered for conference membership. Whether that makes Delany a liar is up for interpretation.

As for your other question, the answer is a giant hell no. If The Big 12 offers you a life raft you take it. There is no guarantee that you will be able to tread water long enough to be picked up by a yacht that may never be coming.

BC just doesn't have the athletic department budget to make the B1G jump. They would need to dump a few hundred million dollars into facility upgrades that the school just isn't willing to commit to. Conte Forum is a mid-major basketball arena (with high school crowds). Football desperately needs an indoor practice facility and currently plays in what would be the smallest stadium in the B1G.

They've been scrambling to gather funds and interest for years, but the support from the administration and alumni just isn't there. The wins and attendance issues snowball the problem.

BC?

That Man is an idiot. Please send Andrew Wamugi our collection of multiple pictures of BC games with NOBODY there; and please inform all ... there is no buzz within the 128 loop for that sports program, except the Beanpot. That's the only thing that NE ever focuses on for the Eagles.

Anyone mentioning BC to the B1G immediately loses credibility. How does anyone think they bring any kind of value? It boggles the mind.
