WVU earned a marker from me with their response to Jazz's death. Wish nothing but the best for them. The Dood and his ilk, not so much.
Meet too. They were way past outstanding after Jazz's Passing. Miss playing them (and all our other old opponents. This AAC thing Sucks out loud.)

Unless someone is going to argue that WVU is a national program, it's market is worthless. A 25 share in Charleston, WV doesn't impress Lexus or BMW.

Didn't WVU bring 50k to Fedex Field for a meaningless game a few years ago? What WVU gets you (beyond quality teams) is a foothold in the DMV. The West Virginia border from the district is only a little further than the Connecticut border to NYC.

Have to agree. WVU has the 2nd best performing and supported football program in the Northeast, but they have a small market. In the world of conference networks, the state of West Virgina is not that valuable. Unfortunately for the ACC, they already have too many schools that don't bring much value to a cable network.

I think it's a decent but not great national TV property. I don't think the fan base is very large or extends that far beyond WV, unless you are talking about specific match ups with VT and Pitt.

This is the mixed strategy of different thinking conferences.

A Solid Brand Program - WVU for last 20 years - was worth more to the B12 whereas the ACC turned their nose up - presumably about academics. Realistically, the TV poobah ESPN told them it wasn't worth spit. The B1G is looking for programmic components for the BTN & prestige + Brand; but, has no interest in diving into Appalachia.

There's little long term thinking. More on the B1G than others. It's going to change. There's going to be rising Universities outside the Cartel. This is far from the stabilized point. B12 being obvious.

No idea what Texas will do with AD position...but if by chance Jurich gets the job it's a huge signal UT will embrace ESPN even more....

Greg Flugaur‏@flugempire 4h4 hours ago
..and separation between UT and OU will only grow in intensity. Jurich is an ESPN guy...a true believer and would only grow relationship

Greg Flugaur‏@flugempire 4h4 hours ago
Would Oliver Luck accept the job as UT AD? No idea, but he would bring credibility immediately to the UT AD Office.

Greg Flugaur‏@flugempire 4h4 hours ago
Could Oliver Luck as Texas AD bring long term stability to the Big 12? How? Luck going to tell ESPN to take hike we are joining FOX/B12N?

Greg Flugaur‏@flugempire 4h4 hours ago
No, of course not. But a Luck AD at Texas could very well grease the skids on Big 12 Expansion. But either way...stability won't happen

Greg Flugaur‏@flugempire 4h4 hours ago
But yeah....no idea what Texas has planned for AD job. What do think? Do they go UT grad? Outside of B12? What say you?

GREG SW AIM SHOW‏@GSw aim 9h9 hours ago
#TAMU friends having a great laugh at what's going on at #UT, and #Aggies are much better off in #SEC. #Sooners, #OKState could go next.

Texas holds the key to the long term viability of the Big 12 beyond the GoR.

Christopher Lambert‏@theDudeofWV 3h3 hours ago
Because if you look closely at the numbers and extrapolate the changing nature of the cable industry its not hard to forecast a future

Christopher Lambert‏@theDudeofWV 3h3 hours ago
Where carriage fees and DMA determinations mean far less fans who actually watch football & would pay for it.

Christopher Lambert‏@theDudeofWV 3h3 hours ago
That doesn't mitigate the Big 12's need to expand its footprint. But it certainly allows the Big 12 to make a football first decision

Christopher Lambert‏@theDudeofWV 3h3 hours ago
When it comes to potential expansion. The Big 12 can add schools with solid programs with fans who watch on TV & fill stadiums.

Christopher Lambert‏@theDudeofWV 3h3 hours ago
I don't know if Oliver Luck is interested in the job at UT. I don't think UT handled it very well the last time he was under consideration.

Christopher Lambert‏@theDudeofWV 3h3 hours ago
Some close to Luck believe that he was told the committee recommended him as the choice.

Christopher Lambert‏@theDudeofWV 3h3 hours ago
UT suddenly stopped communicating with Luck prior to Patterson being hired. Maybe UT burned that bridge.

Christopher Lambert‏@theDudeofWV 3h3 hours ago
But if I was a UT fan I would start making waves for Luck right now.

Christopher Lambert‏@theDudeofWV 3h3 hours ago
For those of you who don't know Jim Clements recruited Luck to WVU after Luck had declined the job several times.

Christopher Lambert‏@theDudeofWV 3h3 hours ago
Clements had to convince Luck that WVU was in dangerous times and that only Oliver Luck could secure the future of WVU football.

Christopher Lambert‏@theDudeofWV 3h3 hours ago
Luck did what he had to do. He made more than a few enemies along the way as he fired underperforming coaches & outsourced MSN to IMG.

Christopher Lambert‏@theDudeofWV 3h3 hours ago
He fired Bill Stewart after 3 consecutive 9-3 years after an in-depth review of the program convinced Luck that Stewart was in over his head

Christopher Lambert‏@theDudeofWV 3h3 hours ago
Luck was an agent of change. I believe he did save Mountaineer football.

Christopher Lambert‏@theDudeofWV 3h3 hours ago
I have no doubt in my mind that as AD at Texas Luck would quickly win the confidence of Fenves.

Christopher Lambert‏@theDudeofWV 3h3 hours ago
I believe Luck would realize that the Big 12 needs to expand and he would make it happen.

Christopher Lambert‏@theDudeofWV 3h3 hours ago
Luck would understand that LHN is a lucrative albatross around UT's neck he's visionary enough to engineer a solution to the problem.

Christopher Lambert‏@theDudeofWV 3h3 hours ago
Because at the end of the GoR Texas has to decide if it wants to give up the LHN to go another conference or give up LHN to secure the B12.

Christopher Lambert‏@theDudeofWV 3h3 hours ago
There just isn't any way around that....LHN hamstrings both UT and the Big 12.

At least Flug admits he has no idea what'll happen. And Swain's point about A&M being in a great position and setup right now is interesting. You have to wonder if OU is sitting there going, gee why the hell are we hitched to that dumpster fire down in Austin? We could be sitting pretty in the SEC.

If you are a fan of Big 12 status quo...if you want no B12 implosion...you want UT in B12 past 2026...root against Jurich & Hollis for UT AD

Greg Flugaur‏@flugempire 2h2 hours ago
Don't get me wrong...UT AD will have very little power to none on moving the needle in UT internal realignment decisions...however....

Greg Flugaur‏@flugempire 2h2 hours ago
...if Jurich or Hollis are approached by UT and one of the 2 men decided to take AD job..it would indicate major reform has been chosen.

Greg Flugaur‏@flugempire 2h2 hours ago
Mark Hollis is Delany's right hand man on B1G realignment expansion/division marketing issues. If Hollis ends up at UT...Big signal...B1G

Greg Flugaur‏@flugempire 2h2 hours ago
Jurich considers ESPN the lifeboat of UL athletics beyond their great fan base. Jurich is tight with ESPN. A nod to Jurich is big Signal=ACC

Greg Flugaur‏@flugempire 2h2 hours ago
IMO...neither Hollis or Jurich would consider Texas if Texas was interested in maintaining status quo with B12..they would say no to UT.

Greg Flugaur‏@flugempire 2h2 hours ago
I have no idea on who UT even has on their list for their AD job come next Spring to replace SP. But if names Hollis/Jurich appear? Oh my...

DMV = Delmarva....as some call the Washington area (Delaware, Maryland, Virginia). Often shortened to DMV.
I know what that is, I thought he was talking about the term DMA, designated market area.

Jurich turned Texas down last time, don't see that changing this time. Bowblsy has said no already this time. I think their next AD will be either Luck or Brown, personally.

@flugempire What about UCONN? UCF and UH CUSA teams making a jump to B12, while a continual national champ stays put in the godforsaken AAC

Greg Flugaur ‏@flugempire · 4h4 hours ago
Big 12 has no interest in UCONN according to BTM.

How does "Big Ten Man" know what the Big 12 wants?
