The only difference between the AAC and the ACC accounting for a total of 26 teams is Florida State and Clemson. I like to state the obvious.

FS1 is a ratings graveyard. B12 football, Big East basketball, MLB Playoffs...all net lower ratings than worse games on other networks. If they offer the B1G a gazillion bazillion dollars for a few games a year, that's one thing. But putting all of your eggs in the FS1 basket seems like bad business...even with all of those New Jersey cable boxes.

Things may look bleak at the moment but don't count FS1 out quite yet. Content will ultimately drive ratings. When the NFC moved from CBS to FOX it was the same wringing of hands. But the product forced the fan to find the channel. I didn't know the cable channel number of FS1 until Cowherd moved there. Now I do. And if the B1G moved there exclusively, you don't think fans would migrate? If more top media talent gets poached and moves over, folks will follow..
It reminds me of when fans of IMUS brought ratings to previously moribund, bottom dweller, FOX Business channel. Even though IMUS is now gone, FBN just beat CNBC for a cycle--based on people knowing about its sheer existence.
I wouldn't worry about FS1.They have pretty smart people running things over there.

I would agree to an extent, they can drive their ratings up, but they'll never approach the level of an ESPN. Perhaps they could match NBC Sports, but without a major pro sport and only second-rate college sports, they'll be constantly running uphill.

Whether or not a conference like the B1G would get into bed with DS1 depends on the ingenuity of FS1 and their ability to read the future of the medium, IMO.

Cable is dying and on-demand media is the way to go. If FS1 could set up a service that would allow B1G fans to download their app and stream their schools live games every Saturday regardless of whether or not the games are live on the actually cable channel, I think there is some value their for the conference. That would be a game-changer. Thinking like that is FS1's only hope.

We're still playing by the old rules of cable that are rapidly being destroyed in the age of on-demand media. FS1 will never out-ESPN, ESPN as they exist today. But if they can change the terms in which they are engaging, they have a chance.

I agree. People laughed when Fox News was started up in 1996, but it only took 6 years for Fox News to become the #1 news channel over CNN. The difference between the two channels right now is content. ESPN locked up most of the good sports content, so FS1's climb up the ratings ladder will be slow and steady and dependent on better content. Which means they will have to overpay for some content.

End of the day, the cable sports model is changing and over time value will be determined by actual demand. The sports TV business model change is positive for UConn as we have fans that want to see the content.

Is that football or a rugby scrum? I would have run from this channel if I even knew this game was televised. Who watches this s***?

Isn't BTN a Fox property? B1G teams have 3 of their games, or roughly 25%, on the BTN every season. I get it on Cablevision as part of a sports package.

Boston College has allowed just two offensive touchdowns in six games....they just have zippo offense to go with the defense.

#1 Total Defense
....2 offensive TD's scored against
....140.3 yards per game

#1 Rush Defense

#1 Passing Yards Allowed

Don Brown's D is solid......and playing Maine, Howard, and Wake helps them in the stats department too.

Any notice that Texas Tech as the #2 Total Offense in D1 football to date and are #124 out of 127 in Total Defense. Talk about going for broke with a certain philosophy.

B10 getting 870,000 eyeballs on a 2nd/3rd tier FB game on BTN more valuable long term for B10 vs 870,000 viewing on ESPNU

How does an Oklahoma say no to a B10 or SEC offer in 2025...with what both can offer in exposure & $$$?

They can't

If Flug is right and BTN and ratings are going to drive future expansion, UConn is putting themselves in a very good spot.

UConn has had three nationally televised games so far this year:

Week 3 @ Mizzou - 12 Noon on ESPN 1.94 million viewers. Dwarfs UNC-Illinois on ESPN 2 by 1.4 million viewers and came within less than half a million of Michigan State-Air Force on ABC.

Week 5 @ BYU - 10:30 p.m. ESPN 2 1.24 million viewers. 120,000 more than the 7:30 Memphis-USF game on ESPN 2 and half a million more than Stanford-Oregon State in Week 4 in the same time slot on FS1.

Week 6 @UCF - 3:45 p.m. ESPNNews TBD. Here's a real test to see how well we can draw viewers. This was a game between two teams with a combined 2-8 record on a channel that not everyone in America even gets standard. For reference the game in this slot the previous week was ECU-SMU and it drew 84,000 viewers.

I'll update when the Week 6 #s become available (which should be in next day or so).

From remarks earlier in the year, Oklahoma maybe just as interested in getting away from the sinking XII and our from under Texas' thumb as the extra money.

Boy I wonder if OK will cause the BigXII to expand on will the schools find another conference?? I'd love to see - if the XII fall apart - the AAC pick up UWV, KSU, ISU and Texas...That would be a nice pick up...not going to happen thou...

Kids may enter school having rooted for one of the big 2.5 Florida schools. But down the road when UCF plays one of those other Florida schools, I'll bet the graduates root for their Alma Mater. Even UCONN fans will root for their school in the underdog role.
That said, UCF doesn't seem like Big 12 material, at least not the Big 12 pre-CR. Now? You never know.

My understanding from folks in central Florida is that this is not correct. Going to UCF is like going to Central CT State as a UConn fan. I'm sure the students support the school while they are there, and some do after, but stay with the school they long supported.

I love how they are looking at 2026. The entire landscape will be changed long before that.

interesting #'s

Things can turn around quickly though...we sometimes forget that Baylor had 13 losing seasons in a row before 2010 and went to their first bowl game in 17 years in 2011.

No "we" don't. UConn fans never forget we beat them twice.

I still believe we are more valuable on BTN than Oklahoma or Kansas.

We would like to think that, but football is still king. Our basketball is top notch and we bring ice hockey as well which you would think would matter for TV numbers December through April, but I guess that will never trump what you bring to the table Sept/Oct/Nov otherwise someone would have snapped up UConn a long time ago.

A network like BTN changes the dynamics and our value. 40 basketball games would drive a lot of ad revenue. Remember the size of our DMA and the average household income in CT. That's a significant source of revenue.
