I agree, but I think you also need to define "quality". If quality is defined as sheer talent, or even previous production, that is only part of the equation. Hurley doesn't just throw a bag around to load up on talent and hope they gel, he finds talent that fits and thrives in his system, comes with a work ethic and strong family, and who buys into the culture and role. I think that's what they define as quality.

He's not perfect, and has had some notable misses, but he's been pretty damn successful at it. Even this year, we advanced further or went through many teams with more "quality" players, and despite being pretty hobbled, we had a good chance to beat the big bad at the end that was a Frankestein of those quality players.

I'll take Hurley's approach every day of the week. It may make us fans a little nervous and unsettled, but its much more exciting and satisfying of a ride, even if its not always 100% successful
Yes, sheer talent is more what I meant.

I think that's what he's saying. I know I'm not doubting the Hurley effect anymore - as far as I'm concerned, they can go 0-20 in the BE and still have a chance to make a run in the tourney.
0-20 you miss the tourney but I’m guessing Hurley is recruiting more to beat Michigan, Duke and other top 10 teams rather than St. John’s.

Wagler was ranked in the 150 range and was recruited by mid majors. He turned out ok, so it’s not impossible.

I also do not think County will be a lottery pick after year 1, that’s not what I’m saying. Just saying if he could have an impact in the out of nowhere sense, that would be awesome.
The more realistic take is that he can emerge to bring what Hawkins did as a freshman. He’s more highly rated than Hawkins was. Better ball handler, probably not as great a shooter. So this kid Nils is probably enough as a depth and insurance piece. Can still add several more players too.

Who is replacing his Tarris Reed production? He was the main reason UConn made the championship game.

Who's going to replace RIP? Or Meka? Or Kemba or Bazz or Hawkins or Newton or Cam....

It's college basketball, teams are in perpetual fluctuations

Ross could start and this would still be great, but we’ll look really strong if Landrew is good enough to win that spot imo.

Bench looks stronger with Ross coming off it. I also really want to note there are some JRoss - RJ Luis physical similarities and I won’t be surprised if he makes the starting spot his all year. Excited to see who wins the 3 spot.

The transfer 4 looks to be a more important piece than it was this past season with Karoma.

Im not disagreeing with this. But there is a lot of retroactive appraisal of last years team going on.

98% of the BY was Bearish on last years team until they proved everyone wrong....now we love that lineup?

So many called Tarris soft, AK useless, solo unplayable. ZERO predictions about next years team can be fully informed
This is a bit of revisionist history unless you provide receipts on the "so many". There may have been some doubters but I'm guessing the number of times Alex was called useless was zero and Tarris soft maybe once or twice. The criticism of Solo was before we knew he had what should have been a season ending injury.

You're a lot more lenient than I am.

I think Colben and Nils gives us consistent off the bench points. Something that was missing last year.

Our 2 best players are going to be Silas and Braylon, returning guys. So we're not going to be overly reliant on transfers in year 1

Huh?

It’s simple. Contrary to what most people on here think, everyone in the portal is not a great fit. We lost Tarris, Alex, Jaylin, Eric, and Solo. That is a ton of production. In my opinion, we haven’t come close to replacing that. Hines was a great get. There is a lot to be excited about w Khamenia. But after that, we needed more impact. I am concerned about our lack of size in the front court, our inability to create off the dribble (which became a huge issue late in year when every coach figured out to switch on everything), our bench production, and overall depth. Most transfers struggle year 1 in Danny’s system and we are relying on 3-4 of them? There is also a reason that most times kids who transfer up struggle: size, speed, athleticism. I have seen people compare Nils to Joey C. Really? The loss of Solo for this team was massive. We needed a high impact replacement not a role player
Next year Demary and Mullins are going to carry the team and play a lot of minutes. UConn didn’t need another premier guard. At small forward Ross and Landrew are a solid combo. They got two solid defensive players at center who rebound and block shots. I think with their remaining NIL they want another PF option to go with Nik Khamenia .. perhaps a guy with post up skills so they have option of finese with Nik or a more physical post up scorer against bruiser teams like last years Michigan and St Johns

I like what you're doing here, but there are a few young ones. Not accounting for off-season growth? Giltay has upside, and County, and Mullins. Team's going to be huge.

People say we were not athlete enough to win it all. From my perspective we were five no calls and ten lousy calls from winning the championship.

Which means we should put together a roster where that never can happen to us again.

Currently on the outside looking in but Jacob Ross has some athleticism and skills. Not inside your top 10 but will be interested to see his progress this year. Danny has been complimentary of him and pleasantly surprised.

Most of that crowd was looking to replicate the 24 bulletproof roster. Not sure we'll ever be able to repeat that formula again. You could argue that team had 3 generational players + a 1st team AA, plus the winningest player in UConn history.

That game called fairly, we had a great chance to win.

Our roster next year isn't entirely unlike the 24 mold when you break it down, light version.

Silas - TNewt 2nd year senior transfer
Mullins - Cam
Landrew - Castle
Khamenia - Karaban
Hines - Clingan

One thing to consider with Hurley's grab in the portal this year is the fact that 2027 is another crappy class, even weaker than 26. Will again be a very weak draft. Him grabbing these studs with 3 years left out of the 25 class will pay off.

Flagg, I think I read about it on this board.

High school kids? There are scores that didn't come, we can't even accept all that visit. Plus there are a lot of misses with high school kids

The highly selective and kids targeted in the portal is a different story. And both the get rate and the miss rate decreas exponentially. Hurley lands the kids he wants, and they're a good fit

.-.
I think these are fair concerns. Everyone on here just like to gang up and pile on. Two things can be true:

1. Hurley doesn’t get the same quality portal guys as the “Tier 1” schools.
2. Hurley and staff find a way to overcome that at an almost unreal level
Huh.

Tristen, Cam, Tarris, Silas aren’t the same quality transfers as who?

Hines was a top 5 Center transfer.

Khamenia was top 30 transfer, MCDAA out of HS and many expect him to be a future 1st round draft pick

This place is deteriorating.

We're lucky to have the Grand Wizard in charge
The what now?

And on what planet is

6’4
6’6
6’7
6’9
6’10

Not a big enough college lineup?

Last year’s Michigan size had warped all of your minds. And we almost beat them with our icu squad.

The NY Knicks starting 5 is

6’2
6’3
6’6
6’8
7’0

Lmao

All hoping for thumbs up from Nils on Monday. Gonna assume it happens. Can't take credit for the nickname- But now that Dylan Delaney has moved on to Grand Valley- Gonna predict the next BE player known as "Church Bells" will be Nils. Something about this dude tells me he's gonna deliver some Showtime moments in the PT he gets.

.-.
I think PT Barnum once said, build it and they will come. Well, Dan Hurley has built it and they appear to becoming. I’m psyched for the team he’s put together.

LOL at comparing Hines to DC. Otherwise, I’m with you.
