Sometimes I have to wonder whether our fans watched Calhoun on the sidelines.

The comments here confirm what Cronin is saying. Some coaches are allowed to behave a certain way and some aren't. Just because he hasn't won as many games means Valentine is allowed to jump in his face like that?

If a ref did that to Ollie, (who I hope coaches here for the next 30 years but who doesn't even have the resume Cronin has...yet) this board would be calling for Valentine to be suspended. If he did that Calhoun his home address would be posted here. This board has a hard on for Cronin but he's right.

I could be off base here and I mean no offense to WingU but what I've seen of Cronin's antics over the time he's run the program at Cincinnati his antics are closer to Bobby Gonzalez than they are to Jim Calhoun.

Not even the least bit "embarrassed" about what any coach does during the game. I would be MUCH more embarrassed if the team academics were so bad that we had to be ineligible for the NCAA tournament. I was MUCH more embarrassed when Huggins' players were getting arrested and not graduating.

Just curious if anybody knows

What do the other teams boards say about KO?

I think Cronin is a very good coach but I would have been livid if UConn lost by a few points because the refs didn't have the balls to T him him up at least 2 times.

Cronins antics foster an environment of very little control. If the coach is out of control then the players will most likely be as well.

Seems like a good dude, unproven as an HC. That is about the extent to which we discuss on UC boards...

Maybe, but my point is Cronin didn't lose it until Valentine jumped in his face. How do you think Calhoun would have responded if Valentine jumped in his face? Any different?

It would have never happened. When you run around like an @ each and every game you get yourself into situations like this. Valentine stepped away and Cronin continued and that is when he then stepped to his face. Don't act like a child 90% of the time and you won't get treated like one. Him and his stupid fawking faces.

Can't tell if you're being serious or not.

I'm honestly surprised most here think what Valentine was acceptable or even excusable. It's not. It's completely unprofessional behavior for a referee. It doesn't matter what Cronin did, that's what technicals are for.

100% serious.

He should have been T'd up and not just reprimanded. How in the world is he right?

Read the article, read the thread, read my other posts, or don't. No offense but I'm not going to take the time to explain everything all over again.

I agree he should have been given a technical. That's not the point.

100% serious.

Then stop dodging the question. What would Calhoun done if Valentine jumped in his face, and please don't pretend like Calhoun never said anything to a ref that would make him want to get into Calhoun's face.

As far as Valentine's actions, I agree with WingU that it is completely unacceptable for a ref to do what he did. As far as Cronin's antics, not merely today's but for much of his career, I stand by my earlier statement.

I answered your question over an hour ago. It wouldn't have ever happened with Calhoun. Calhoun didn't run around 90% of the time like a raging lunatic. When Calhoun was pissed it was typically for a valid reason. Valentine didn't T up Cronin because he is a joke.

Nick….errr……Mick is a mini-me to Frank Martin!…….but I like Frank…...;)

We'll then your point is wrong because the little ferret deserves a T from the opening tip by his actions. To say he didn't lose it until Valentine jumped in his face is absurd.

Okay. Other than the video proving otherwise, you've got a good point.

You didn't answer it. You pretended to answer it and tried to convince me you answered it by pretending to answer it again. If you also want to pretend like no coach has ever behaved like Cronin or worse, that's your choice. Considering how much you like to pretend it is surprising you refuse to discuss a hypothetical. There is one thing that Cronin could do, while in the coach's box, that would justify Valentine's response, and it involves the n-word.

The fact is, the referee is supposed to be impartial, objective, and a professional. It is never appropriate to respond to a coach by getting in their face. Especially when the coach is in his coaching box and not on the floor. It doesn't matter who the coach is, and how little we like him, the referee has a duty to remain calm and professional.
