Cronin was in perfect view of us during the game....our consensus was that we hate him, but we'd love him if he was our coach....and we decided to call him umpah loompah. :)

I actually think Cronin is a pretty good coach. Now with that being said he is always over the top. Guy looks like an angry leprechaun 90% of the game. Funniest moment of the whole situation was how his player was literally shoving him around. Check it out.

I have to say our student section let us down.

Should we meet them in the tournament, I fully expect to hear "Angry Baby!....Angry Baby!....".

I promise....that cheer will fly around the conference like wildfire.

Cronin's winning percentage is something like .605. Why is there such a love fest for the dude? He hasn't advanced past the Sweet 16 in his 8 years as coach.

He rebuilt a program that had 1 scholarship player on the roster when he got the job. He is 98-37 the last 4 season...

I actually like Cronin. He is hilarious to watch as an opposing fan but I know I would love his fire if he coached my team.

Two undeniable facts though: he is an awful dresser and the Apr is a joke.

2009-2013 93-48 or .695. Greatest accomplishment, making it to the sweet 16. Still not impressed.

**EDIT**
I should say that I am not impressed enough to be in love with him like some here appear to be. I would be embarrassed if I were a Bearcat fan with his antics on the sideline. Not just today, but any day. He is a winning coach in D1 basketball. I respect him for that.

Let me know when Cincy wins something of note. No conference championships since joining the BE, no big runs in the tourney.

No, it has nothing to do with being on track to graduate. How could a one semester player at Kentucky be on track to graduate. Regarding UConn, there are two issues at stake.

1. They brought forward the APR due date forward without allowing schools who were in danger to do anything about it. In prior years, teams were exempted when they showed improvement (UConn had 3 years of great scores when they were banned). The judgment left UConn with absolutely no chance to comply or ameliorate things.

2. APR is simply this: 1 point for a player returning to campus in the fall, 1 point for a player returning to campus in the spring. 1 point for a player finishing fall semester, 1 point for a player finishing spring semester. Add up points and divide by 13 then multiply by 1000 (in order to make an arbitrary measure somehow look hefty). Exceptions: if a player leaves for the pros, no matter his GPA, his points are exempt (in the spring). If a player transfers with less than a 2.6, you are docked points.

In UConn's case, we had a kid who completed 3 years of schools and one semester who then left without completing his degree. He dinged UConn for 2 points. UConn also had 2 players transfer without 2.6s. Both killed the APR, and that's how UConn was below the 930 cutoff.

This doesn't even account for the fact that all schools have a different way of going about sending athletes to classes. Some don't care (some of the ACC and all of the SEC). Others have actual classes. So you're comparing apples to oranges. Now, UConn has near perfect APR scores for several years. if you think UConn has improved academics for basketball players, you might be wrong. It's much more likely that UConn has learned how to use intersession courses so that players leaving for the pros or transferring are exempted from counting against you in the APR.

It's just a phony NCAA thing that means nothing. It has absolutely nothing to do with graduation. You get no credit for players graduating.

Here's a funny fact: Harvard was below the APR cutoff for 2 straight years, whereas Kentucky has been acing it. That's a joke.

Let's add the most interesting fact.
We had already been punished for that bad year by being docked Scholarships.
The NCAA retroactively came up with that new measurement to include a year 3 years previous. They purposely ignored the most current year. Other schools that didn't comply were given a waiver.
Why you ask would the the NCAA make up and apply a metric to one institution.
Its really not that complicated. As a Cinncy guy you should understand that the NCAA is extremely bias in applications. Huggins was not a favorite as I recall.
First of all we embarrassed the NCAA ,while we were being punished ,by winning the NC with only 10 scholarship players.
Then without a Scholarship we get one of the top recruits in the country to walk on.
Our punishment was a quid pro quo for JC's blatant acts of defiance.

I like Cronin, I'm not sure about the out of bounds call, but he had a few legitimate gripes. Samuel hammered one of his players and the end result was UConn ball on a possession arrow. I thought the game was pretty evenly officiated for the most part, but Cronin was fighting for a team that seemed to play flat. To opposing fans maybe that's being a , when it's your team's coach it's passion and there's nothing to be embarrassed about. Cronin took over a dumpster fire and has done a good job. We'll always get the last laugh with Cincy, we got Kemba and they didn't.
Valentine's behavior was the most embarrassing. Cronin ran over to dispute the call, I don't know what he said, but Cronin didn't lose it until Valentine jumped in his face. There is no reason for a ref to jump in a coach's face like that, Valentine instigated the whole thing.

That was a free ball and Samuel got his hand on it.

Yes he did. He took a hard swing at the ball, got his hand on the ball, his arm all over the Cincy player's arms knocking him to the ground.

ESPN currently has an article entitled 'Cronin Decries Double Standard' on its website. To me it is evidence that Coach Cronin is a true jerk. He actually complained to ESPN that Valentine was disrespecting him! He wants the respect that Boeheim or Krzyzewski gets. He needs to review his resume.

Actually, I can see him better employed as the Notre Dame mascot, he has the act down! Just add the green suit and hat, which I am pretty sure are already somewhere in his ill advised personal wardrobe. Plus, he apparently has been a rodeo clown.

HARTFORD, Conn. -- Cincinnati coach Mick Cronin said he sees a double standard with the way in which coaches are treated by officials after referee Teddy Valentine got in his face, almost nose-to-nose, during the second half of the Bearcats' 51-45 loss

to Connecticut on Saturday."My beef with that is guys like Mick Cronin and Buzz Williams (of Marquette) of the world, we deal with some of it," Cronin told ESPN after the game. "When nobody gets in the Jim Boeheim's face or Mike Krzyzewski's face."

Syracuse's Boeheim did receive a technical and ejection when he protested a charge call to official Tony Greene last Saturday at Krzyzewski's Duke. Boeheim ran onto the court and confronted Greene and was ejected.

Valentine went to Cronin after calling an out-of-bounds play that Cronin challenged. Valentine then walked away as Cronin had to be restrained by this players and staff.

Valentine didn't issue a technical foul despite Cronin's behavior. Officials have the jurisdiction on such situations.

Official Michael Stuart issued two technicals and ejected UConn coach Kevin Ollie for coming on the court in a home loss to Louisville last month.

"I didn't appreciate it but I want you to know this, we have a relationship that's why he felt comfortable doing that," said Cronin of Valentine invading his personal space. "That ball was out on them I think. I took it personal. Where I come from you don't get in somebody's face."

Cronin said he has no problem with Valentine and is glad he's working the American conference after not being a regular in the Big East.

"He got in my face, I didn't get in his face," said Cronin. "Am I allowed to T him? That's what I asked him."

Cronin said he averages one and a half technicals a year. He said he wasn't going "to get a tech in a close game like that. If I get one it's because I want one or its uncalled for. This was much ado about nothing. They need to leave me alone. It's not my first rodeo."

I obviously don't comment much, but having sat pretty close to the Cincinnati bench today, I need to weigh in. I lost all respect forCronin. He could (should ) easily have had three technical's. The two would be when he completely lost it. Kevin got two quick ones in a similar situation and he didn't even try to bench slam his assistant. The third sometime later when a ref warned him after he stomped the floor . He complains on every call, even those on the far end of the floor where he can't possibly see.
Having said that, I actually think he gained 5 or 6 points for his team with his antics. He was continually distracting them in conversation during play. They were even coming over to him with their arm around him to explain almost every call.

He's not a handsome man which makes for even worse optics when he gets animated. That said, I have no problem with coaches showing passion on the sideline. Cronin seems to have done a good job keeping Cincinnati at a relatively high level of competitiveness over the past years, without having too many big name recruits.
