I‘m thrilled at this turn of events. Charlton was taking us nowhere. The new OC gets to work with —and develop—our highly touted Frosh QB. I feel the OC job will have several quality candidates looking to fill it.—or they’ve already been selected.
The ominous nature of the changing landscape of football poses an existential threat to us as the only current Independent. Any chance for ACC or BIG XII inclusion when the dust settles depends on putting a winning product on the field. As we take our last gasp at relevance, at least this OC move feels like we’re breathing some fresh oxygen.

Being that Charlton almost certainly took a pay cut, my guess is Mora told him to look around for something and if that's the case presumably he has his preferred replacement already in mind.
If he took a pay cut, then it is likely that UConn is picking up the difference as part of the deal.

Let's just hope Charlton wasnt the reason Welliver came to UCONN...
Gotta think that HCJM has anticipated this situation and has already managed that risk. I think it is pretty obvious that HCJM and AD David Benedict have pulled off a very deft solution to a difficult problem. Why do we think that they would not have the expertise to handle the recruits and other players?

Twitter follows remains a solid way to generate leads/ideas for candidates. Right now looking around Mora and some of the top guys on the staff for clues and there looks to be nothing notable.

Maybe UConn nation will finally get that Twitter powered fan based play calling tool we always wanted. Nothing but go deep and never run.
That's just gotta be due to the fact that everyone on the staff is already following Tom Brady though, right?

We need a new coach and some talent on offense. I am not sure there was anyone who could be successful with this talent. There are people who think a coach can be successful with play calling. A really talented team can be successful with any play calling. It's about winning individual battles.
I’m in the group that thinks with you can be successful with play-calling within limits. You aren’t beating Michigan with schemes but no talent. But better play calling will win you some games.

Late + bad timing to replace OC. Need to be consistent to be successful. Did we just go through this a couple of years ago with DC out at the start of the season ? Maybe JM is the problem + and is not the guy behind closed doors we think he is. Can it be he is has a problem dealing with people ? Just a thought.

Are you insinuating the old addition by subtraction law applies here?
Losing may not be the term I would use for Mora finding him a place as a run guru utilizing seven offensive linemen.
Must have taken some convincing.

Let’s ask Aaron Rodgers.

What the heck…he seems up for taking some odd jobs these days.
Well you know Lincoln’s first Vice President served in the Maine National Guard as a cook while he was Vice President. He was assigned to Fort McClary at Kittery Point. So VPs have held outside jobs. UConn OC and Vice President. As long as no minor foreign heads of state die during the season we’d be fine.

More than that, it also seems like a relationship issue. These guys don't have sources that let them say things.
Also a real world industry issue > due to consolidations/job eliminations the overwhelming majority of these guys are spread thin covering multiple sports/beat. They are all in NYC - maybe they get 5 w/ Benedict.

Yes but honestly UConn isn’t going to get this caliber of talented people in football without hiring guys that have warts… its how Iona or St Johns winds up with Rick Pitino, Liberty with Hugh Freeze, etc. Time to embrace it.
I mean if the boozing stories are true and he's still doing it then idk how useful he'd be. It's one thing to hire someone sleazy. It's another thing if it's an active problem

Thing is, the public criticism that HCJM made of the offense at the end of the year pretty much was a signal to Charlton to start looking with some urgency.

I will not pretend to know what he’s doing in AZ now but the thought when he was in Lincoln is that a lot of the drinking was driven by the passing of his father, stresses of bringing NU “back”, and being close to a bunch of his old college and HS friends.

Seems worth a phone call at a minimum if we’re serious about trying to solve our offensive problems.

CT insider and the Courant both have articles that are just staff reporters. Where are their beat writers? Even Brown's blogs are picking this up. There's definitely enough smoke.
Who covers UConn football? There is no one dedicated to the sport year round in any primary media source. They all got other jobs. I would say there really aren't any beat writers out there, there are people who cover the games, write features in season. But out of season? If it isn't a media invite event, we aren't going to get anything.

But as far as beat reporter stuff, such as recruiting/inside baseball stuff/notes. There is no one.
