New PAC-12 Forming

Maybe, maybe not. I hope not. I root for schools outside of the power structure.

But no one is setting a reminder to watch Gonzaga - Fresno at 11 at night.
Given the location, the total sense of isolation, it's going to take a miracle. On the other hand, money talks and that little school has made a name for itself off basketball, so they will be highly incentivized to pay up.

.-.
Not to pick on you, but didn't people say the same thing about us regarding Calhoun?
Did you miss the Kevin Ollie years? After Calhoun's players left things got bad and they got bad quickly. It's not easy to replace a Hall of Famer. There aren't a lot of Dan Hurley's out there.

Well, you kinda proved my point. Calhoun left, Ollie won a natty (albeit with Calhoun players), but he still won and has as many championships as Boeheim. Yes, there was floundering for several years, but then Hurley comes along, and we're humming again. Still, Calhoun left, and we end up with 3 nattys...the demise of our program was grossly misjudged. So our legacy only took a long detour, it didn't get derailed. Whether the former or latter happen to Gonzaga is another matter, but the only thing set in stone is that BCU sucks, everything else is negotiable. ^_^

Entirely different set of circumstances.

UConn represents a state of 3.6m people in the northeast with connections and ties to many schools from conference play.

I've been out to Eastern Washington and it's another world. The people there are in a level of isolation. The landscape is also wild, high desert. I haven't been to Spokane but I have been to Walla Walla.

Gonzaga is also a small Catholic school. What will draw people there?

UConn is a flagship state university that has wide support from politicians, business leaders, students, alumni, state residents,... And, I think people forget how much of a regional basketball power UConn was before Calhoun as UConn made 13 NCAAs with an Elite 8 and 22 conference championships. Calhoun took UConn from a regional power to a national power.

I'm just saying there aren't a lot of Dan Hurley's out there. I don't think anyone else wins two national championships in the short time he's been here. Now, to your point one of the reasons Hurley came here was because we had the infrastructure, the tradition, and the will to win national championships, so it's not just the coach, but a big part of it is the coach.

But as far as I'm aware, Gonzaga doesn't have any national championships. They've had some nice runs on the left side of the country, I'm not convinced the infrastructure is in place to elevate the program after Few leaves.

They said the same thing about Calhoun. I think some places know how to do this endeavor right. I bet they stay relevant.
The vast majority struggle though. I'm just not convinced that Gonzaga is all that attractive of a job, but I guess when Few retires we'll see.

Edit: Apparently, someone thinks it's a better job than Connecticut

😂

Don’t kid yourself. A basketball school is a very attractive to a basketball coach.

I'm not sure that's the only criteria. I don't see the job being attractive to East Coast coaches at all. It's too far away from their existing recruiting grounds and relationship relationships.

Are their facilities good? It doesn't seem like it.

Granted, that was just a two second Google search though.

That guy is a UConn troll. He also posted a similar graphic that day that said top CBB teams of all time and had UConn at like 10th.

You know it’s a troll when he has Nova and Gonzaga over us. You can’t use the P4 excuse with them in there. He’s just strategically trying to irritate the two biggest dogs on the list in terms of actual recent success. He’s totally trolling Duke too by putting UNC at #1.

Facilities don’t matter as much. I doubt they will fade out like Wichita State.
