New PAC-12 Forming

Would it?

“Dear recruit, we have road trips to Fresno, Pullman WA, Boise, and 90 minutes north of Salt Lake” this year!!
Yes, it would. The alternative is telling a recruit, “hey we have lots of games, most close to home, but we aren’t playing for anything. No conference standings, no conference championship, but hey, if we go undefeated for 2 or 3 years we may be considered for the playoff…”

I get that right now being independent works…but we need to be in a conference before too long…

Worst case 2030 will be here fairly soon.

Caught this yesterday from the Big Mountain podcast but here's some new hurdles for the PAC'$ legal team.

This seems like it is going to end up in a settlement and the longer it takes to get there, the worse it is for the Mountain West who needs the exit money to keep the promises made to the remaining schools

Honestly, if the money is similar, that might entice us or Memphis both football-only.

I don't get why they arent like, UConn is joining in 2030 for all sports and we will have a scheduling relationship for football.
Because no media partner has agreed to pay for that. In the end, it really is that simple.

Well, we have been playing quite a few ACC teams with more on the future schedules, so...
2022 - 3
2023 - 3
2024 - 4*
2025 - 3
2026 - 3
2027 - 4
2028 - 4
2029 - 2
2030 - 2
2031 - 1
hmmm GIF

Joining the PAC for Olympic sports? Including bball?? For a football scheduling deal???

How about the opposite- stay BE for Olympic sports and join the PAC for football only, for a bball scheduling deal, but only if there’s no exit fee.

While this will likely never be accepted I wonder why UConn hasn’t pitched a “Notre Dame-esque” to the PAC scheduling agreement like ND has with the ACC. Not sure how it would work financially but that would keep the independent status and allow for a much stronger strength of schedule.

Agree. Gives me hope something is happening with either Big12 or ACC.

From the Memphis perspective a NPac move doesn't make sense on many levels. The football conference isn't better and may in fact be worse, Memphis is presently making $11+ million a year in the American, exit fees, other 'moving expenses' both literal and figurative, and 2030 hopes.

The new Pac12 is absolute garbage and there’s zero reason for us to want anything to do with them. The only way they can improve that conference is by moving it further west until it drowns offshore.

The idea that we would somehow be able to enhance recruiting by playing in the Pac12 is just so far on the wrong side of stupid. There isn’t a recruitable football player in this solar system who will spend even one second thinking about the Pac12 conference title.

No.

That only works if the Big East invites Memphis to join.

No.

Because they’re smarter than you.

Nope.

Huge problem with the math here. First, the American makes more than the P12 will. Second, Memphis would have to pay a significant amount of money to leave the American in order to make less than they would in the P12. Third, and most importantly, the American is and will continue to be a better football conference than the P12.

Five of the top seven G5 teams right now are in the American vs only one of the future P12.

Memphis is the complete polar opposite to the Big East. No way that ever happens.

I agree. When I wrote "That only works if the Big East invites Memphis to join", I meant that it only works for Memphis if the Big East invites them to join. Memphis would need a place for basketball and their Olympic sports.

The media deal for the American is an average of just under 7 million per school over the length of the contract and was top loaded. It is under 6 million the last year

The new PAC is 7-10 million average with the top performing teams earning more

In addition, you play your games anonymously on ESPN+ in the American

The PAC is all linear

The PAC wanted us for all sports, and probably offered us horrendous terms, because OSU and WSU aren’t offering anyone good terms other than themselves.

Because Notre Dame is Notre Dame and there is only one.

Honestly, when I woke up one morning and SMU was in the ACC, I stopped believing in “never.” (Especially if the Big East keeps trending towards the earth.)

But year, highly unlikely.

The PAC has a better football deal than The American by far. But they are still locked into a later time zone. That said most of those teams have to be pretty happy with the end result in terms of exposure. And it's unlikely they will see defections in the near future. I don't see much in terms of scheduling that would interest UConn fans. No disrespect but it's not a good match for us.

You are right, it's not a good fit for us. But I would like to play some of the programs, SDSU, Boise St, Wazzu, Oregon State, Colorado State, Tejas State
