NCAA Tourney games

Okie St. about to take care of Princeton. It's gonna all fall on Cal Baptist's shoulders. Last mid major remaining. Against UCLA I give them just about a 0% chance. Cinderella is officially dead.

Syracuse took out Iowa St. After 100% chalk yesterday, we have a few small upsets today. Although a #10 over a #7 and a #9 over a #8, especially when both are P4 teams, is hard to get too excited about. But at least it's not all chalk.
Actually I thought UVA’s win was a pretty big “upset”. They barely made the tournament, won the play in by 2 points, and two days later beat a 7 seed who’d been off for well over a week. Given how UVA played at the end of the season (lost their last 3), I got pretty excited about it. But I realize you’re more talking about non power conference teams upsetting someone.

It was in another thread, but like I said before Iowa whipped Michigan twice in the last few weeks. I have no problem with them being a 2 seed. Maybe today was just a bad day for them?
I continue to be unimpressed by Iowa. They definitely have Michigans number, they beat OSU, that’s it. Them and Michigan are 2 seeds because the fall off after LSU and Vandy is dramatic.

Welp. Cal. Baptist had it close for a minute with UCLA. At one point it was 33-38, UCLA. Now. 38-73, UCLA....35-5 run by UCLA.

Yeah, I get that. Nice for UVa fans. Syracuse feels like a bit of an underdog story too.

I’m excited for battle of the SCs on Monday! There can only be one! Though I think we know who’s gonna win that one. Hoping they play again next year when it’ll be a much fairer battle.

As I was watching the CBU-UCLA game it occurred to me that Audi is a very similar player on offense to Lauren. On defense there’s no contest between them, and Lauren is a bit more mobile. But when it comes to post moves, Audi just has more of them, immobile as she is, and her shooting is rather more skillful. If you ignore the difference between height vs width, the basic play is the same: a post entry pass into a physically imposing person who is pretty much impossible to defend once they get the ball.

Two additional things: first, Lauren would probably defend Audi much more effectively than vice versa. Second, analysts like to gush about Lauren’s mobility in the lane. But on offense this only consists of a pivot move to her left that she developed last season. That’s it. I get that she likes doing the pivot but it’s seems largely cosmetic since in almost every case she could more easily muscle the ball up through smaller defenders. As soon as you recognize this, then it becomes clear that she’s not doing anything different from Audi. And she misses more layups than Audi does.

To consider the broader context, I’d say that Audi probably has very little future in the W. By contrast, Lauren will be drafted and will get playing time. It’s a question how she’ll adjust to playing against opponents who are as tall and as strong as she is, are more mobile, and who can hit midrange jumpers. I’d compare her to Li Yueru, who is the same size, has a dependable midrange shot and is more mobile. Lauren is probably stronger than Yueru, but may not have any other advantage.

I’ve watched plenty. She’s had way too many no shows. She’s zoned out numerous times. For her sake, she needs to hit the portal to improve her W stock
Interesting to hear. I’ve watched 2 games all year of Tennessee and came away thinking Cooper was great. Scanning her game log I guess I caught 2 of her top 5 scoring games. Had 23/11/7 in the opener an 24/6/2 the other day in the 2 games I saw of her.

I’d roll the dice on her in Raleigh from what I’ve seen - although State already has some issues with players sometimes zoning out so maybe that would be a recipe for disaster lol.

ACC 8-2 so far is a little surprising. Felt like a down year in the conference and the league placed a lot of teams in that 7,8,9,10 seed range so plenty of coin flip games and the conference held their own first round.
