NBA November Thread

Jokic has never played with an all-star either and unfortunately he had those seasons without Murray.
I was surprised to hear Murray never made an all-star team. Admittedly, I didn't see him a lot pre-injury but when I did he was always great.

one of the more bizarre 2 year spans for a GM, makes great trades at the 2024 deadline to acquire PJ Washington and Daniel Gafford and I don't think the Mavs make the Finals without those moves. Then makes the most nonsensical trade in NBA history and then lowkey the Quentin Grimes for Caleb Martin swap that also made no sense and now here we are. The next GM needs to trade AD for as many first round picks as they can since the Mavs don't have any control of theirs from 2027-2031, just go all in on tanking with Flagg and add another high pick in 2026 to pair with him since this a loaded draft.

I saw the vision if the Mavs squad was healthy.

But you can't trade Luka for a guy who never plays. It'll be wild if the Mavs stayed put, got healthy, and became really really good.

My buddy texted me when that trade happened and I told him to screw off. The trade was so outlandish I didn't believe it for a second.

I mean that's the thing, there isn't a vision to me in trading for a 32 year old who is never healthy, and I just don't see a world where Kyrie/AD are leading you to anything as 1A/1B. Nothing about that trade will ever makes sense to me, besides the basketball side of it, a former marketing exec who was at Nike for almost 20 years not realizing what trading the face of his franchise would lead to? Maybe one day we will get the real story.

The trade never would've happened if Cuban was still majority owner.

Think the the thought was that, healthy, they're the best defensive team in the NBA.

He pretty much built the team on defense (including Caleb Martin for Quinton Grimes to give them a guard defender to go along with Christie). The team is built to play elite defense and win the battle in the paint. Just questions to whether Kyrie can carry the perimeter scoring load almost by himself for a playoff.

It's a huge risk and wasn't really worth it given the obvious injury history of the two and the clear PR side of it as you stated.

Trading one of the three or four best players in the league who just took you to the NBA finals and is arguably the face of the league for a broken down guy who is 6 years older and doesn't resonate with the public. Mavs are 15-28 since trading Luka. It's one of the worst trades in sports history.

DC's offensive game is abhorrent, can't believe I'm even typing this but he needs to watch Kalkbrenner tape
This board wanted to tell me it was a good thing he was spending energy shooting 3s though.

1-5 today and 0-3 from 3 so far. Way more important stuff he could've been investing his time into.

He doesn't play with any force around the basket or in the paint on offense, Kalkbrenner fg% so high cuz he's trying to dunk whatever he can around the rim and also aggressively put back offensive rebounds

I always hate when it seems like I'm trashing Clingan (or same with other posters) by bringing some reality to the conversation. But he's got such a status on this board that people think he's the greatest C prospect in the history of the sport. His offensive game has been very base level for awhile and he needs to improve in multiple areas before he becomes more than just a rim protector.

Nobody thinks he's the greatest center prospect in the history of basketball or a mythical figure.

Some people think he was even more impactful defensively than Okafor (I'm one of them) and that seems to be what's bothering you.

I would like to see the matchup with the re-tooled Nuggets, but barring injury I don't see how the Thunder don't go back to back. They're smashing the league without JDub and their only loss was a road loss to a good Blazers team that was the 2nd leg of a back to back, and even that came in the last seconds.

No, I'm not bothered at all. That was 1 of 500 things I've read that were hyperbolic about him.

But it's cool, you chiming in shows where you stand. I know he's a local boy and HELPED win titles, but he's got flaws and every time someone posts reality about his game you and others jump in to say why that's wrong.

I've seen people use some superlatives about him, so my exaggerations were obvious, but not that far off.

And again, I love the kid and loved him while he was here, and love his potential and will continue to root for him. But no, the mere fact you think he was more impactful than Okafor is not the only thing I'm talking about, and no it doesn't bother me. Thanks for responding though!

Jokic has 25 in the first quarter
Whoops I posted it in the wrong thread. Most points ever in an opening quarter for a center and it's against all-defense Zubac.

He's shooting like 80% from two this season, it's just insane the level he's playing at.

Its just so frustrating watching a guy like Zubac play and wondering why Clingan can't model his game around a guy like that.

So many centers with a 3rd of his talent and doing amazing things in the league just by focusing on the right things.

6 of 27 which is good for 22% this month. On a shot that is 40% of his shots. Makes no sense for a 7’ to be allowed to waste his time with this.
