McGraw stated that the Irish hope to schedule former Big East rivals Connecticut, DePaul and Marquette.

"We haven't heard any good news on a game with Connecticut," McGraw said. "We're still waiting."

I don't see why the Huskies wouldn't play ND. They'll be consistent Top 10 competition, and it's not like Muffet pushed for conference jumping, or would have had any influence if she had.

Muffet, from the same article....

"We're playing Duke twice, and they should be either No. 1 or No. 2 in the country".

No. 1 ? Really?

IIRC, Geno said that the UConn schedule for next year was set, and they would have to cancel an already scheduled OOC game to accomodate Muffet. I think we will see us play again, just not this coming regular season. And if the Dookies are a possible #1, does that make us #1+++? (Reigning National Champions and all....)

Muffet is just tweaking Geno a little bit; you know, the type of stuff only Geno engages in. She knows full well that UConn's OOC schedule for next season was set before it was announced what conference ND would be playing in and the only way to fit ND on the schedule is to cancel another game which I highly doubt UConn will do. Same with claiming Duke will be #1 or #2. She's still smarting from losing to the team she knows will be #1 next season.

It's a huge disappointment. I can't get over the fact that we were rejected from the ACC, where we belong. It's going to be a snoozefest, whereas we could be playing ND, Maryland, Dook and a host of other interesting teams. I'm seriously bummed. But I've cried in my beer enough over this I guess...still...

If we meet them in the Final Four that will be just fine. I don't know about Geno but after playing them 8 times in two years I'm ready for a leprechaun break.

I will be interested to see if the drive and flop offense works in the ACC.

If they call games like last season's Duke-MD games Notre Dame's "foul line" offense is in trouble. ;)

It is entirely appropriate for Ms McGraw to be full of malarkey.

A casual reader of this piece in the South Bend paper would take satisfaction in her hint that UConn/Geno hasn't yet called her to accept her dare that their teams play again.

I wish they could come to Storrs for the unveiling of UConn NC banner #8.

People forget that Geno & Harry aren't the only coaches from Philly....

Notre Dame will probably play Duke 3 or 4 times this season, whereas they will be fortunate to play UConn once. Thus, doesn't it make sense for her to avoid giving Duke bulletin board material? Duke will probably be ranked #2 preseason, so saying they're #1 or #2 is politically savvy.

But she screwed up on this quote (if ESPN's early poll is accurate): "We're playing North Carolina, which has the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation coming in. They're an uptempo team that is really exciting. I think they could be in the top 10 by the end of the season." Oops, they're 7th in the early poll, 3 spots higher than the Irish, so she may have underestimated them.

As for the quote that has most of you Huskies' fan upset: "McGraw stated that the Irish hope to schedule former Big East rivals Connecticut, DePaul and Marquette. 'We haven't heard any good news on a game with Connecticut,' McGraw said." "We're still waiting." It may be a bit of a tweak because, as a few people have mentioned, she is a Philly native as well. But even though UConn's upcoming season is full, Geno could still agree in principle to scheduling a game in 2014-5, but he has not said anything encouraging. In fact the only statements he has made to date have been that he has no plans to schedule Notre Dame in the future. Or did he make some vague assurances to play ND about which I am not aware?

It seems clear from the article that McGraw was talking about next season. As for scheduling beyond next season, Geno said this at the final four:

UConn and Notre Dame will face off for the fourth time this season Sunday at 7:30 p.m. The Huskies hope to avenge three straight losses to the Irish, and Auriemma said he could see working with Notre Dame to continue their storied rivalry even with the new conference arrangement.

"Once we get this conference thing squared away and once we get our scheduling in order, I would venture to say that there's going to be a lot of interest in playing that game," Auriemma said. "I'm sure on our part and their part."

If you consider this a "vague assurance," then I guess that will just have to do until Geno and UConn start turning their attention to the 2014-15 season. I'm guessing their priorities right now don't include making sure Notre Dame hears good news.

Thanks to DD and UConnCat for the sources. As I stated, I had not heard that from Geno. No, of course that wasn't vague, UConnCat, but I was unaware of that statement. I am pleased Geno is planning to continue the rivalry, as I think it's great for WCBB.
