“If Morgan was a junior, I think she’d know how to handle this a little better,” Auriemma said. “She would handle it like (UConn senior guard) Caroline (Doty), she would come in and play when she could, contribute and then move on, but because she is a freshman she has no reference point. It is hard for her one day to be at practice and the next day not be at practice, then practice for three days and play in a game like St. John’s and then not practice for three days. That is not natural and she has no experience with that. I am hoping little by little, if we can get a two-week stretch where she practices every day, plays in a bunch of games then all of a sudden we get to see more of what Morgan can do, that is our goal anyways.”

Tuck admits this topsy turvy freshman season has tested her patience.

“I hated being in one day, out the next day.” Tuck said. “I am glad to get healthy overall. It is something I have never really experienced. I have been out for a long time but not in and out, so I am excited for the upcoming part of the season because it is the part of the season that really matters.

Freshman Morgan Tuck feeling better, hoping for extended playing time

Morgan is an excellent player.

Freshman year is tough. At UConn, it can be especially tough. And injuries make it even harder. But the rewards will be great. Hang in there! HuskyNation is with you.

Is it my imagination, or is there a debate about p/t going on in the press between the principals?

I believe that John A is looking for more p/t for Mr. Belding and Rich Elliott is squarely behind Mr. Feeny.

A provocative comment with anything but a positive spin gets the typical Nekulturny response from Doggy.

It's obvious she wants the playing time and to be efficient when she is I the court. Unfortunately she misses some easy ones but I feel that has to do with nerves. Her moves around the basket show promise. Positioning and timing are there but I feel her finishing has a lot to do with how comfortable she is on the court. Girl has skills and the drive for perfection. When things start clicking, it will be fun to watch.

In the international games I've watched, Morgan has been the steadiest player on the court and usually the most productive. Her offensive problems look like a combination of having to do too much thinking at the moment...Geno teaches a complicated game that takes at least 18 months to ingest subliminally...and some health issues that she may be getting behind her (fingers crossed!). I expect her to be a big part of UCONN's title hopes over this tournament and the next three. If she's really getting physically fit, the Baylor game would be a great time to show her stuff against Williams and Pope...

Never mind all the head stuff. When our girl gets healthy and knows it... watch out!

I'd say it's your imagination.

I saw some comments on the ESPN comments thread on this and it just seemed to come from left field. Morgan is having a frustrating season due to nagging injuries cutting into practice and playing time. Over the last month I get the sense that when she is able to play Geno has been limiting her minutes because of the injury history and not her performance on the court. When a player has been missing time, the first issue is stamina. It is not a good idea to let a player coming off injury get fatigued as that is when it is more likely that they get another injury or aggravate the previous problem.
Seems like just noise. Geno has had some really good things to say about Morgan which he would not say if there was a problem.

I like Morgan's game a lot, and as others have mentioned, we've not seen the best of her due to nagging injuries that have permeated her entire season. Aside from all the pressures associated with playing at UCONN, including being freshmen, both Moriah (flu) and Morgan (bone bruise) have been limited in what they can do. Pretty impressive that they've performed as well as they have given the challenges this year for them!!

Watching her moves around the basket and hitting treys. I cant wait til it all comes together for Morgan. A lot of talent and a very calm disposition. When it does come together she will be amazin. Simply amazin.

I have seen Morgan play at various levels over the last few years. The boneyard will be very happy with the results when she is both physically healthy and mentally acclimated to the UConn experience.
