Monday 11/4

…Missouri does trail Vermont by 11 in the second quarter though. That’s something to pay attention to.
At least they stood by Pingeton though, amirite?

Of the three SEC teams who clearly needed a change, Missouri was the only one to stand pat. They asked for this.

I just watched bits and pieces, then the full last 3-4 minutes of the USC-Ole Miss game. Ole Miss almost pulled off an upset of a loaded but young Women of Troy team.

Interesting bit of trivia... SC's JuJu Watkins and Kennedy Smith starred on California Open state title teams that beat Morgan Cheli's Archbishop Mitty in the finals (I think two consecutive years), and I saw both games in-person.

So Charlotte over Presbyterian was another case of one of your teams beating another of your teams?

Yes, but the Blue Hose (Defending Big South champs) rank higher on my list than the 49ers.

Great opening day as the Arizona schools all won. The jacks scored 31 in the fourth quarter as they escaped the pit with an 80 to 78 victory over a rebuilding lobo team. Big Skype preseason player of the year Sophie Clancy wins the game as time expires with a short hook shot.

Molly Miller looks to have the loops ready to rock and roll as they scored 93 at home against Bakersfield who was over 17 from three land wow the lopes we're 14 for 26.

Adair wills her team to a fourth quarter come back at home as the Sun Devils edge Jax State by 8. This easily could be the only time the Sun Devils are over 500 this season.

And.... The kitties.Rhey take care of UTA at McKale.

The odds of the Arizona schools all prevailing on a single day are the same as mine in running a four minute mileI

I was surprised to see my Wolverines hang with my Gamecocks. Michigan looked good. I'm excited to see how the season plays out here in Ann Arbor this year. Syla Swords! S. Carolina didn't play the best game but it's only game 1. They'll be fine, especially if/ when Watkins comes back.

Thanks. I just looked them up. Maybe ND is helping out a fellow Catholic school?
Wouldn't surprise me. That was the take of one of our Benchers who is from Erie.
For those with long memories, Kayla McBride is from Erie, Pa. and went to Catholic schools in the area.
Mercyhurst is travelling to Chicago to play DePaul next, so the Catholic U's in the area seem to be tag-teaming here.

USC escapes. Fairly unimpressed with them. That's some of that great coaching from Gottlieb huh?
Logistic issue of traveling overseas, time change although I suspect they've been over there for a while, first game of the season, two ranked teams. Kind of an expected outcome Allah the Huskies

Yeah, I'm not really sure what the end game is. How much do people watch American sports in Europe? I know the NFL and NBA have some games internationally, but I have no idea what the actual pay off is for doing this.
There are a number of valid and rational reasons for games like these. Branding invisibility really does offer the opportunity for increased penetration of the women's game. The motivation for individual teams is varied I know Geno has taken teams in the past to Europe for exhibitions. There may well also be a recruiting angle here and most importantly international travel for college age students is what I would consider a good thing

Pretty clear that Oregon has turned the page from last season‘s disaster. 13 threes at 42% opposed to hitting 10 only twice all last year. Early days though. Nevada Wednesday then a real test on Sunday versus Baylor.

How much did TAMU pay Joni Taylor to lure her from Georgia ...
to finish in the bottom quarter?

This is year 3. Need to start getting results.
I personally have never thought Joni was that great of a coach and they aren’t bringing in a lot of talent.

Good points, all.
Not to mention, they clearly have a very interested sponsor in Aflac, who has bought into the concept....which is no small deal.

I think it gives ESPN, which fancies itself as the brand carrier of Women's Sports, an exclamation point to start the season.

Is that debateable? Until 2-3 years ago, the only other network with WBB was the occasional mid-major game on CBS SN.

I didn't really follow their roster churn in the off season. Looks like McKayla Williams vanished into thin air. Kemery Martin got married and is now at BYU. Mia Mastrov...another with no info I can find. Maybe concentrating on tiktok full time now? Oh, and Muca to Pepperdine.

They've got a bunch of grad students. Didn't realize Krimili had another year to use. Onyiah has seen a whole bunch of players come and go, she's still there!

The key element here is Syla Swords went for 20 pts. and 12 rebounds in her first collegiate game against the defending national champions. That bodes well for Kim Barnes Arrico and the Wolverines.

BTW, another forward -- Chloe Kitts -- acquitted herself really well, too, with a double-double of her own (19 pts., 14 rebounds) for the Gamecocks. That team is loaded at guard. If forwards like Kitts score like that, Dawn will be very happy while making countless Aflac commercials. ;)

Might as well go public: charges against Ashlyn Watkins have been dismissed

She's still way behind in comparison to Coach Prime and Coach Saban ;)

Mastrov graduated and left basketball. Kemery graduated and moved on and Muca did as well....Michelle is doing her fifth graduate (Covid) year (school of public health) and is poised to have a standout season....We got some excellent transfers in including Kayla Williams (USC) who is starting at point, Natalia Ackerman (from Cal Poly) and Jayda Nobles (UW-you know her ;-) feisty defender). Our frosh class is strong too....excited to see them on the floor last night. We actually have some depth and as the newcomers get their sea legs, I'm looking forward to the season. Bears knocked down 14 3 pointers last night...here's the box score: Cal WBB vs Saint Mary's box score (PDF) - California Golden Bears Athletics

Good luck. She never figured out how to stay out of foul trouble while she was at UW. Or shoot with any consistency. With her athleticism I thought she would be really good driving to the hoop but that didn't materialize either.

Just realized Jayda Curry didn't play for Louisville yesterday against UCLA. Anybody know the story with her?

Hamstring injury. Had posted this in the injuries thread earlier. Hadn't thought of posting it here. (d'oh!)

I thought for a minute of checking the injury report thread, but that has gotten too long (unfortunately) so didn't go hunting there.

Read a story on Hailey Van Lith's debut with TCU, in which she and Prince both scored in the 20's (and no one else in double figures, if memory holds). I also noticed Maddie Scherr's name was not in the boxscore but a quick google came up blank. Anyone know what's up?
