Yeah, I'm not really sure what the end game is. How much do people watch American sports in Europe? I know the NFL and NBA have some games internationally, but I have no idea what the actual pay off is for doing this.
The answer is a lot more than what people may expect, especially when you consider the NFL has expanded into Germany with their games. As to the NCAAW market, that's an unknown but who knows if it's given enough time. We're talking year two of the experiment and we were spoiled with ND vs South Carolina last season. Only time will tell.

The French have their own professional league that has done fairly well with Bourges historically challenging for the top four in the Euroleague Women, and Villeneuve-d'Ascq making a run to the finals last year. The French Women's National Team is also always a perennial challenger on the international level. I'd agree with the others that this is more of a fun lark for the teams involved and it seems to generate interest to have some top teams playing this early in the season. I wonder if there's local organizers involved who are trying to use this novelty as a springboard into driving interest in the French league when it starts back up.

So...why are these games in Paris? Lower bowl is mostly full, but the upper bowl the lights are out and nobody is home. Gotta think they could've drawn a much, much better crowd if this was in Vegas or somewhere else in the U.S.

Angel McCoughtry is in the house.
It's a destination event for fans and the team. It also draws a lot of eyes. The crowd is irrelevant much like the small arenas in the Bahamas that teams crave to play in.

Well, must be time for a massive over reaction statement after just 1 game! I really can't see either UCLA or USC winning a Championship. I just don't think they have coaches that can get it done. I've sort of defended Close at times, but yeah, she doesn't have the chops. Neither does Gottlieb. Both teams have plenty of talent, but so will the other teams when you get to the last weekend of the season.

Some of the games looked a little rough, but you are already in mid season form!

It's early, but man--I'm not impressed with Southern Cal. The talent is clearly there, so hopefully they'll gel as the season progresses.
They have 9 new players and only 2 returnees that will likely play big minutes. A lot to integrate.

Ole Miss and USC is the most interesting of the three imo. With the worst time slot of course.
TIL people are either MUCH higher on Southern Cal than I realized or haven’t paid attention to Ole Miss.

I expected a game that could go either way in the final 4 minutes, but a lot of coverage is acting like someone took the 92 Dream Team to the wire.

Southern Cal added three new starters to a team that was leas than the sum of its parts every 3rd game last season. This felt about right.

Dugalic is not a bad player, but I don’t understand starting both Gardiner and Barker off in the bench. I’ll be especially curious if cori does that against the two uscs.

She's not a bad player at all. But, she was in the starting lineup today and ended up with zero points.

It certainly didn't help that returning starting Center, senior Rayah Marshall scored zero points in 34 minutes

Olivia Miles ain't missing a beat! I love that she is back! I love her overall game. She has great court vision and great basketball IQ
About to drop a triple double.

Gardiner is just a better player. But I understand wanting to be loyal to a player that has been in your program longer.

I was surprised Karlen didn’t play. But I haven’t really paid attention to Notre dame’s offseason. Only 7 available. One scored 0. Similar issues to UConn with their depth right now.

Do they play anyone good any time soon?

Clara Strack looked good late in the season when Kitley got injured for VA Tech. She followed her coach to Kentucky, 22 in her debut there today. Fellow VT transfer Amoore was in play making mode w/ an 11/10 double double.

Karlen injured her ankle in the exhibition game last week. ND's been silent on the severity of it. So hopefully she'll be back sooner than later. ND plays Southern California 11/23. Then Texas and UConn in December. Plus games against TCU and Utah for Thanksgiving. Definitely some cupcakes, but I'm glad we are starting off with cupcakes. Since we aren't healthy. The USC-Ole Miss game was so physical with so many foul calls. ND needs healthy players.

A couple of others things going on.

Manhattan is playing Rutgers. Hana Muhl is a starter.

The power 5 teams are standing pat so far today. Missouri does trail Vermont by 11 in the second quarter though. That’s something to pay attention to.

Macey Huard had a decent Fr. season at Montana. She transferred to Oklahoma St. and she's going off today. Daughter of former QB and current tv commentator Brock.

Today's game was an exhibition game for ND, no? Mercyhurst? Never heard of them.

No they’re D1. Located in Erie PA.

Hockey had been D1, but rest of sports just moved up this year to the NEC (same conf as CCSU).
