Well with 3 NCs I suppose we really can't challenge Calhoun's methods but this is worrisome for future recruiting. Last years recruiting class could be the best we see for a long time as kids see this stuff (i.e. Harkless getting PT and Daniels fighting to stay relevant). I am hoping that Daniels is growing mentally as a player from the spotty PT and hard practices as I was thrilled when we got him and I really want to see him thrive in our program (not just bc he was the alternative to Moe).

We need to remember the Mr Harkless decided to change his mind well before we even got involves in the DD sweepstakes. Maurice has eemingly made a decision that worked out for him and we should be happy for the young man and move on with our guys! I know I'm not worried about the future in recruiting as it's in good hands!

It was bad advice to go to a team where he's the go-to guy and he's averaging 16 and 8 with about 1.5 steals, blocks, and assists? And he poured in 30 and 13 against Duke?

RayRay at UConn only averaged 13 and 5 his freshman year.

Why is it that some fans think that any recruit who doesn't choose UConn made a mistake?

It's like they're 9th grade girls bitter about their putative beau taking a rival female to the dance.

This is a good description. Kid seems to have a locked-in angle at his hips, and he doesn't seem to swivel much at the waist, either on D or on O.
Not sure what it is, but there it is.

Harkless would be an easy 30+ minute per game player at Uconn right now. Some seem to think that if roles were reversed that Harkless would be Daniels and vice versa. That is not the case. Big east ROY is a two horse race between Drummond and Harkless. Good post. Everything you said I completely agree with because a lot of bad comparisons are being made if the roles were reversed, etc,etc. Harkless would be a guaranteed starter on this UCONN team and it wouldn't be close as Roscoe and Daniels arent anywhere near as good as Harkless. Moe is straight up the best small forward in the game and top 3 to 5 wing players for me in college basketball. NBA GMs should be all over this guy in the top 10 of this year's NBA draft. Anyways we need to work with what we got to hopefully make a run. I have been saying this about Harkless for a long time, but we can't mull around any longer wishing he was here which I have done a lot but its time to look forward.

Yea bursnbro hit it right on the money. The kid was skinny all his life and he has become stiff by doing too much squats and lifting too much. He has stiff shoulders and stiff hips which are really hurting him as you said on D and offense. If anything I would work with Daniels less on weightlifting and more yoga and flexibility so he can improve his body so he can become more agile and athletic.
 
Who knows, if Harkless came (last year) maybe he would have disrupted the team's chemistry. Maybe Butler would not have been so intimidated to go inside....you play the cards you are dealt.

The problem with all the Harkless vs Daniels comparisons is that they ignore the timeline of events. Daniels essentially took Jamal Coombs-McDaniel's scholarship after Harkless was long gone. If you believe Nate Blue, Harkless soured on UConn when Roscoe Smith was signed. Whatever you want to say about Roscoe and his struggles to find a role now, he contributed to a national championship. Had Harkless somehow known that Jamal Coombs-McDaniel was going to transfer, maybe he would have been less worried about Roscoe. But for Daniels to be the one getting the wrath of the "I wish we had Harkless" crowd ignores that, what, 15 months elapsed between one backing out and the other committing?

I love Scoe on the team. He is solid and is a good defender, rebounder, and glue guy. The whole issue is Harkless over Daniels.

And why is that an issue? Daniels took Jamal Coombs-McDaniel's scholarship 15 months after Harkless backed out. There was never a point where the two players were on our radar screen simultaneously. If Jamal Coombs-McDaniel doesn't transfer, we never even get involve with Daniels. Truthfully, Daniels was a pretty remarkable get for a last-minute spring signing out of nowhere. There shouldn't be any Harkless vs Daniels issue. Harkless backed out and our roster transformed several times before Daniels came along.

Yes, bad advice.

At UConn he'd be a national name. No one knows diddly about this kid. He'd be featured in the Final 4 instead of the CBIA or whatever the heck that is.

...and the same can easily be said about DD if he had the minutes Harkless has. You really think everybody will equate him to a lottery pick with JC minutes?

No, you can't say that about Daniels. If you give Daniels 60 minutes of play there's no guarantee he can do what Harkless has. I'd venture to guess he wouldn't match numbers with 35 per game instead of 15. It's a preposterous assumption. They are different players irrespective of their height or minutes played.

Well considering I was right about Napier being a liability on defense and offense, right about Boatright, right about Daniels not being very good, right about Harkless, and all of this at the beggining of the season proves I have some magic when it comes to judging talent :cool:

No one is arguing they are different players but two points are being made here. One, Harkless wouldn't get the same minutes and given the surrounding cast of players, he would not get the same production as he has at St Johns. Second, there is no guarantee what DD would produce given th same minutes Harkless does but given the cast he would have at St Johns, his production has to be better than hs current output. My guess is it would be enough to generate enough buzz. Think Cleaveland Melvin. Maybe not at the lottery level, but Harkless isn't at that point either

Harkless would be a guaranteed starter at UCONN playing 30 minutes a game same as he is at St. Johns and with him and Boat running the point this team would be a national champion guaranteed.

If Daniels were as good, he'd be commanding the same minutes right now, bottom line. I think Daniels is a nice player and no doubt a polar opposite coaching style from Lavin an Co. I think if SJU had a PG and a center like Drummond, SJU would also run deep into the tourney. Semantics though. Its not going to happen.

Guessing Prez was being sarcastic but how would you know that considering you're the master of the obvious during a horrible streak by the Huskies. Stay tuned magic.......
 
I have not been overly impressed by DD but if he had such a good week of practice why only give him 7 minutes of run? It's not like everyone else was picking up the slack.

Totally agree with this.....he misses a couple of jumpers and gets taken out only to never see the light of day again. I know we need those 4 rebounds from alex but maybe play smaller but with people who can guard. Then you have a better matchup with DD or Niels on Martin so Andre doesn't have to be out there while Alex is getting the crap kicked out of him by Keep a Cooley Baby!!

I knew he was being sarcastic just wanted to make a point. Considering I was right about my points 2 months in advance about Napier being a liability on defense and offense, right about Boatright, right about Daniels not being very good, right about Harkless, and all of this at the beggining of the season proves I have some magic when it comes to judging talent :cool:.

P.S. I still have hope we can get big wins at Georgetown and against Syracuse to save our season if Boatright starts every game from now on.
