So is Mingo Young States new PG moving forward? Its a night and day difference between her and Taylor. The offense can actually do more with her in the game.

Both SC and Miss St have fabulous freshmen. They are going to be two big time classes these next 4 years.

I love Mingo-Young. She has been the big surprise of this class for me.

Agreed. I'm on the edge of Danberry needing her spot taken as well.

What a game. Sweet Box of chocolates tonight even with the loss. If I were a GM in the WNBA And freshmen were draft eligible my number 1 pick would be Boston!

Mingo Young was a top player before all her major knee injuries. She is still learning the PG position but she is the complete package when healthy, rebounding, defense and scoring.

Against States toughest opponents (Stanford and USCe), Mingo Young played most the game instead of Taylor for a reason.

I don't blame Matharu for the game ending turnover. Thats on Vic and her teammates literally did not move or run a play.

There was a lot of indecision and confusion. When SC gave that foul, it changed the point of the inbound play to the baseline and it seemed that no one knew what play they were running or even who was supposed to inbound the ball. Perhaps not having Danberry in the game was a reason for that.
I think it was not having J Danberry and M Taylor in the game. In the second half he was subbing between M Taylor and A Matharu with J Danberry and J Mingo-Young to have at least one experienced player paired with a freshman. I was very concerned with A Matharu inbounding. However that was more on J Mingo-Young not cutting properly and letting Z Cooke jump the pass. I can’t believe she didn’t immediately foul.

Overall great game by both teams. I’ll be interested how Mississippi State responds at Vanderbilt Thursday.

Wait... you serious?

Care to explain that take?
I'm serious. Great defensive player. But I see more potential in Mingo Young and Mathura. Again I said on edge. I'm not ready to commit to my statement.

Danberry is terrific. She is vital for this State team in terms of generating extra opportunities defensively and scoring. I think at times Danberry tries to do too much but for the most part MSU is a better team with her out there. Matharu will be a starter eventually but I think she works best coming off the bench. I do think she should get more time though. Her ability to score is great and she is a pesky defender.

The only two players that I am unsure of is Carter and Taylor. You have options to replace Taylor but Carter is the best MSU has at this time. Ideally Taylor Promise is someone they want but she isn't in game shape yet coming off surgery. Morris isn't ready or up to that level yet.

I felt some missed opportunities by State. But give SC credit for making the plays.

J Mingo-Young is already pushing M Taylor and I predict she will take the starting spot and minutes by next season. For most of this season it appeared he was trying to groom A Matharu as the back up point but J Mingo Young has really done a good job of coming in and playing steady. The problem with A Matharu is that after a few shots start going and she gets out of control. She also has not been consistent on defense.

I see your point on J Carter. She is definitely a better four than five. However I thought she played very good in several spurts on A Boston. She had a season high five blocks and made Boston work for position. If she was able to play her more natural position I think she would be an exceptional player.

I just finished watching this one. I think this is one of the worst-officiated games I've seen this year. At the same time they were letting them bang like crazy and making phantom calls.

Very entertaining nevertheless.

Boston is oh so dominant in the low post. Big body, but still quick and bouncy. Center is a bit of a weak spot for MSU, but it should get stronger with Cooks next year.

Two surprises to me:
- SC’s bench got outscored big time.
- MSU’s freshmen narrowly outscored SC’s.

Rickea Jackson disappeared for most of the second half, but they had other freshmen step up.

Early on I said the loss of Ty Harris would easily be filled in by Henderson, but my feelings have changed. Harris was incredible tonight.

For those ready to anoint JMY as PG. She played 19 minutes and had 0 assists. She's a great freshman and plays extremely hard, but let's pump the breaks on her readiness to step into that role.

Taylor is a better PG than many of you realize. No she's not a scorer and she's not at the level of Jazz or Morgan (who were among the best PGs in the country), but she does a lot of good things that simply aren't acknowledged or recognized by many commenters here.

I think the play is more deliberate when Mingo Young is the PG. Myah sometimes seems to want to play fast and loose with results sometimes being out of control.

matharu looks dramatically more comfortable in the off guard spot. I didn't think she shot that many out of control shots tonight. No more than everyone else. I know she gets out of control at time but I see Jackson, Danberry and others all do the same at times. I thought Matharu had two really bad possessions in a row defensively when she came in but then put it all together after that on both sides of the ball. She was like the energizer bunny for a few minutes, no one could stop her.

To be fair to both PG's tonight for State (Mingo Young and M Taylor) they didn't run a lot of plays except setting a screen and driving to the paint. I don't fault them, it literally worked most the time. They were smart to continue doing it.

Its a loss by State but in the end I think they won in other ways, especially those freshmen growing up. That is much bigger down the road. They actually competed for 40 minutes.

Danberry has to stay on the floor, but you can always count on her to make a few bad turnovers. I think Vic has just accepted that is who she is at this point because she brings so much more to the table. Extremely athletic, and she can somehow get to the rim so quickly. She sneaks in there before anyone can stop her.

I didn't see m state driving the ball at will the way they did.

It's interesting that Boston pretty reliably did not challenge the drives but stayed with her mark.

I guess the scouting showed that miss state will eat you up if you help. They ate us up anyway.

Interesting matchup between the two teams. If they meet again in the SEC tournament will be interesting if South Carolina is better prepared to do something with the drive. Credit to state for putting Carolina on skates.

besides not having assists she played terrific! Especially in person she was cool as can be! I like her better than Taylor honestly...
