Shalala is one of the main reasons we are not in the ACC. There are simply NOT enough bad things that could happen to her. I hope the NCAA absolutely slams UM.

I find it interesting, though, that a chorus of "Emmert should resign" refrains are heard when UM gets threatened with sanctions while there was hardly a peep from anyone in the press or anywhere for that matter when UConn was unfairly placed in double jeopardy.

I think they're both going down. Miami is going to be slammed, and rightfully so, but I just can't see how Emmert keeps his job with the fallout from that. I don't care how much direct involvement he had, in a position like his, the * rolls uphill.

Other than Herbst, Shalala is the only college president I can name.

The NCAA's hammer finally meets a bonafide nail.

I'll be most interested to see what happens to Frank Haith - he's named in the complaint and if you take a trip in the way back machine, you'll note that we had his act pegged four years ago.

Fishy, like Mr. Peabody is usually spot on, simplifying the complex, illuminating truthyness albeit with a brevity of words.
However using the "way back machine" often produces more in the way of face palms than hope for justice.

I have nothing constructive to add but would like to point out that both Shalala and Emmert have degrees from Syracuse...

No - failure to monitor.

"Failure to monitor" is a fender-bender while "lack of institutional control" is 300-car pile up.
Whatever happened to us feels like more than a fender bender.

After this development with the U, I expect the NCAA to come down with a lengthy punishment on UConn.
Well they'd have to change the rules and use out of date data to be able to do that, but that's never stopped them before.

What do you want them to do? They complained to the media about the unfairness, they filed appeal after appeal.
The case that they tried to make was 'hell yeah we don't care about academics and we cheated our asses off, but those kids left school, and it is unfair to punish the current kids for these acknowledged bad acts. As I and other have often noted on the board, that hardly was our best position.

They did go after the retroactive aspect of it.

This is with 20% of the evidence being thrown out by the NCAA because of their mis-conduct! I can only imagine how much crap they had on the Miami program!

Has anyone seen what parts of the NOA have surfaced? Where is all the stuff that Yahoo reported? And color me surprised that the guy who is at Alabama (Panunzio) doesn't face any charges along with Haith, Hurtt, etc.

Yahoo get a scoop right, lol. That would be a first. They throw at a wall. The problem for schools is that usually 1% sticks and the NCAA goes out looking at it all and finds other stuff. Major problems have occurred when the coaches lie, even if they are later found to have been telling the truth (see UConn's assistant, who I believe is still out of a job).
