I'm surprised none of the prostitutes from 10 years ago were able to testify. Honestly, I find it utter nonsense that Miami has the balls to release a statement like that. Basically they are admitting they screwed up and cheated, but because the NCAA found out in a less than savory way, they should be let off the hook. That's some fantastic spin.

The NCAA probably shouldn't have investigated the way they did, but it doesn't absolve Miami's lengthy cheating.

It wasn't salacious enough for them. This story has so many crazy elements to it that it was a natural for the press to run with. An APR violation, a made up retroactive rule? Well that just looks like the NCAA caring about academics, which we know isn't true, but just doesn't make for a good story.

Shalala is one of the main reasons we are not in the ACC. There are simply NOT enough bad things that could happen to her. I hope the NCAA absolutely slams UM.

I find it interesting, though, that a chorus of "Emmert should resign" refrains are heard when UM gets threatened with sanctions while there was hardly a peep from anyone in the press or anywhere for that matter when UConn was unfairly placed in double jeopardy.

It's a cumulative effect I think. The unethical behavior of the NCAA has been piling up, investigation after investigation and this case is also a lot more high profile than most so it has really come to light. I also think that the University of Connecticut just doesn't do a good enough job of promoting itself, or defending itself for that matter. To me, they often come off as if they don't even care that they were wronged and are just willing to sit back and accept it.

From listening to Bilas yesterday, a lot of the backlash is about Emmert himself, who claims accountability but deliberately keeps a huge distance from any screwup. Someone said he's a man who loves the camera and suddenly will only do phone conference calls.
