Men's soccer 2017

UConn men's soccer is 34th in the latest RPI ranking.

RPI Update: Men's Soccer: RPI Rank

The Huskies are playing better of late, and beating a very good South Florida team (32 in the RPI) on the road did a world of good. However, considering only 48 teams make the NCAA tournament with 24 automatic bids going to conference champs, to me that further solidifies the idea that right now UConn is a bubble team that can't afford to lose games at this point. The Huskies are also currently 0-2-1 against the RPI top 25, which wouldn't seem to help their chances. Their loss to Iona and that tie to North Florida were bad results were RPI killers as well.

UConn has the following games left on their schedule prior to the AAC tournament. Also listed is the current RPI of the teams they are to play.

@ Boston College - 59
Central Florida - 92
@ Dartmouth - 24
Memphis - 167
Yale - 148
@ SMU - 18

I'm inclined to think that if UConn loses two of these regular season games, they will not get an at large bid. They might be ok with 1 loss, since that would mean they would end up having another quality road win at either Dartmouth or SMU. But right now there best chance at getting a tourney bid is to win the AAC regular season so they can host the AAC tournament. To do that they probably need to go undefeated in the conference.

Tonight's game vs BC - which begins in a few minutes at 6:00 - is being broadcast on the ACC Network Extra Stream, which is also available Watch ESPN app.

Game at Boston College, Nkosi Burgess is out for the second straight game with an injury.

<150 GA tickets left and 500 or so reserved left for sat. match.

Gonna try and make it...

Tulsa and then the 5:00 BU hockey game.

2+ hr hockey game and ~1hr for travel from XL to Morrone - getting there even by half time will be tough.

Last yr's 12/3:30/7 was so much better.

5pm is almost too much time between football and hockey...

@ BC game is also streamed on ESPN3 if you use XboxOne.

UConn up 1-0. Early goal by Abdou Mbacke Thiam, his 9th of the year, assist to Nick Apostol.

John Tuite during the first half speculating on UConn's NCAA at large chances, also thinks UConn is squarely on the bubble. He seemed to think the Huskies might be able to afford one loss, but it didn't sound like he would want to bet the farm on it.

Midway through second half, UConn has had some scoring chances off of counterattacks, but BC has been dominating possession. Levene has several good saves.

UConn gets a big break and another goal late in the 2nd half. Austin DaSilva gets a gift and scores on a BC defensive screw up to make it 2-0 for the Huskies.

BC ties it up with about a minute to go. Match going to overtime.

BC scores in the second overtime to win it 3-2. Disappointing, to say the least. UConn cannot afford anymore losses after this one.

Lack of possession and hold up play in the second half were awful. Clsssic Ray Reid vs a team that can possess the ball. That type of football belong in the past.

In one sense this loss is not a surprise. UConn has been winning games despite getting outplayed for a good portion of the season. It's hard to keep that sort of thing going over the long term. The Huskies have been living with lady luck so far in winning as many games as they have, and tonight it didn't work out.

Once again, UConn men’s soccer is among the leaders in attendance. This has been going on for a long time, since the days of Joe Morrone. This year to year attendance consistency at Morrone Stadium is what helps keep UConn highly relevant in the NCAA soccer world.

Saturday night game against Central Florida. UCF scored a few minutes into the game, the Knights scored a few minutes into the game. UCF scores another goal early in the 2nd half. Then UConn's Dylan Greenberg scores off a free kick unassisted to make it a 2-1 game in UCF's favor.

It is not looking good for UConn. UCF scores another goal with about 18 minutes left to make it 3-1. Second straight game the Huskies have given up 3 goals. Beginning to wonder if this is the beginning of another late season swoon for Ray Reid's squad. Last year it started right after the BC game.

UConn is trying to make it interesting. 12 minutes left, Josh Burnett scores on a breakaway off an assist from DaSilva. It's now 3-2 Central Florida.

UCF wins 3-2. Just terrible. So much for being in the driver's seat for the AAC regular season championship.

What are Ray Reid's chances of keeping his job after the season ends?
