maybe in terms of being a one dimensional catch and shoot 3 point specialist, but Cross started nine games this year, ranked fifth on the team in points and fourth in rebounds and shot 20 for 50 from 3-point range(40%). much more productive as a freshman than polley was. polley was a nonfactor until his junior year.I think he has been described as a poor mans Tyler Polley
we offered him in 9/18. this article is from 1/19:Did we recruit him? Did he show any interest?

No real answers on Miami's Board but the general thought is he must have said he wanted to transfer. Also speculation that he came onto the floor for FSU game with mismatched shoes and when told to change he said IDGAF. Doesn't sound like a good coach/player relationship.

FIFY.At the risk of embracing stereotypes, everyBig Eastdook team needs a chippy 6’7” white dude who can bang 3s
Every time I see Mac McClung play I think "there goes the dukiest duke player to never have duked in the last decade".FIFY.
Come on man. 3s?! Anyone on the UConn basketball team can get at least 7s, no problem! At the risk of embracing stereotypes, every Big East team needs a chippy 6’7” white dude who can bang 3s

Over how many games?Come on man. 3s?! Anyone on the UConn basketball team can get at least 7s, no problem!
Because he's white? I don't think Duke has ever had a player like him before. McClung has a street game, very exciting player.Every time I see Mac McClung play I think "there goes the dukiest duke player to never have duked in the last decade".
Wouldn't you say that the description above also pretty closely fits Giffey? That's the type of player he is A couple inches shorter but effective in all the same ways.strong build and is effective in traffic. Much more of a productive player than an explosive athlete. Combo forward type who rebounds well, shoots well and can play on the wing or in high post. Adequate ball handler and passer. Smart defender who has versatility, although he is not the quickest defender.
He better be a very good shooter.
That would be nice. Loved Giffey.Wouldn't you say that the description above also pretty closely fits Giffey? That's the type of player he is A couple inches shorter but effective in all the same ways.
Seems strange to hang a kid out to dry if they are having confidence issues. Especially a freshman. Just seems odd to me. College coaches need to be mentors as much as they are basketball coaches. I don’t know the full story and i don’t know much about the reputation of Jim Larranaga but after having heard it was Miami’s decision i just think it’s strange. Sometimes it just isn’t a good fit for either partyMiami Harold:
We’re told Larranaga had trouble getting through to Cross, who had confidence issues and became detached when he wasn’t playing well, according to a source.
Cross did not violate any UM rules or have any disciplinary issues, according to the source.
Cross told colleague Michelle Kaufman on Friday that “unfortunately it did not work out,” among other things you can read here.
Cross averaged 6.3 points and 3.9 rebounds in 14 games, including nine starts. He shot 45.5 percent and 40 percent on threes (20 for 50).
he must have very high expectations for himself as he was playing well for a freshman by most any standards. hurley could really motivate this kid. larranaga prob just wanted to take naps.had confidence issues and became detached when he wasn’t playing well

There was another article mentioning his player-coach relationships being better with the older staff versus younger staff. But to be honest I am not sure who’s character this reflects more given the fact that Miami doesn’t have the basketball mentality, as say, UConn. Not taking anything away from their program but our perigee and culture is different... also we are closer to home which is a plus.Seems strange to hang a kid out to dry if they are having confidence issues.
