Well at least this game will cool the sizzle of the MSU fans who were saying their team should be #2 or #3.

Will it? I hope so but...I learned a hard lesson lately thinking people would/had changed....Well at least this game will cool the sizzle of the MSU fans who were saying their team should be #2 or #3.
They almost got beat on their home court by a team with no player above 6 feet tall, and were completely bailed out by their height and rebounding advantage. Howard and McCowan combined for 53 and 30.I dunno.... you thought MSU played poorly? This Marquette team probably could have beaten a lot good teams tonight.
THanks tried it but, nope! It says I need to subscribe to the SEC network. So is it 80-79 MSU
Game plan is solid...make Mississippi State run. They aren't nearly as imposing if McCowan isn't back defensively. King looks fantastic for Marquette.
What a blast!
Two takeaways for me: 1) Marquette - DePaul should play each other twice. I'm hoping to gods that I can see those games! 2) I think Marquette gave some teams a blueprint for how to contain McCowan. I don't think the sag-and-double strategy would work for everyone, but they did it very effectively.
Jazz Holmes had 13 assists and 1 turnover. Pretty impressive against a team of Marquette’s caliber.
Howard and McCowan combined for 53 and 30.
I agree, she was absolutely effective. But how many of her baskets were assisted, maybe three? Most of her points were either putbacks or free throws. I would have expected that against such a hieght-challenged team, MSST would get the ball to her half their half-court possessions. They tried, but were seldom successful. Not picking, but she did have 24 and 18 and shot 75% and the strategy left Howard free to have a massive game.
Marquette played very well and impressed the hell out of me.
I'm not delusional. We're not UConn or even ND, but we are certainly in the next tier.
