Marquette (18) @ Mississippi St (6) - 12/06/18

Very entertaining game. MSST was up by quite a bit when Andra Espinoza-Hunter came in. I'd been impressed with their discipline in transition. They passed up a couple of open threes when there was nobody back to rebound. AEH shot a three with nobody back to rebound. She dribbled right into an Eagle who picked her clean and got an easy layup. AEH enters the game, Marquette rips off 8 straight points in about a minute.

In the second quarter (probably the whole first half) I noticed that McCowan's mark was staying out beyond the three-point line almost exclusively. So, no rim protector, and Marquette is driving to the basket almost at will.

On offense MSST just isn't finding McCowan. Three times or so the entry passes have been too low and picked off, leading to easy fast break baskets. I don't think McCowan's scored more than one assisted basket, if that. It's all been putbacks and free throws. Bibby needs to set up at the high post, so you can have a big-to-big entry pass that the pesky Marquette guards can't pick off on its way up.

Howard's draft stock is certainly up this season. If she keeps shooting well from distance, she'll be an early pick.

Game plan is solid...make Mississippi State run. They aren't nearly as imposing if McCowan isn't back defensively. King looks fantastic for Marquette.

Once again, a team that South Carolina made look like dragon-slayers looks utterly human in subsequent play.

Marquette is a fun, fun team when they're on. Sooooo much quickness.

I am trying to figure out how Marquette not only lost to Miami but only scored 55 points in that loss.

Marquette shootingthe lights out and so fast. These guys are good!

Marquette is playing fearless. What I've seen in this game thus far makes me think any team playing Marquette will have to play a very solid game to win.

Danberry and Bibby have been very rough tonight shooting. Missing so many open shots

Marquette has committed 18 fouls so far here in late in the third. Three starters have three fouls. This could get interesting down the stretch.

Espinoza-Hunter has played a total of six minutes against the only competition MSS has faced--Marquette tonight and Texas the other day.

OTOH, she's played nearly 21 a game against scrub teams.

They were just ice cold. Blockton, their best player, was 2-14 and Wilborn was 1-9. Thirty out of their 70 shot attempts were 3s, and they only made 6 of them. They are a hot and cold team. Tonight they're hot.

Vic likes B. Scott a lot off the bench because of her defense I see

Great game, MSST 63 - 62. Marquette having a great shooting night.

Gonna be an exciting finish. The McHoward show with 42 and 25 entering the 4th.

Marquette ain't goin' away. King hits a 3 and then Hiedeman draws a foul on AEH to go to the line and give Marquette the lead.

Big brick by AEH from top of the key on the previous possession.

Marquette can't miss anything tonight.

Good luck having them in your NCAAT bracket if hot

If you have ESPN, you should be able to stream is on ESPN3. I have it cued up, really looking forward to it.
THanks tried it but, nope! It says I need to subscribe to the SEC network. So is it 80-79 MSU

Funkadelic made the first but missed the second. MSU leads by a point with 40 secs to play.

Danberry and Scott came through big in some moments down the stretch

In the end MSU won the game. That's what solid teams do, they win despite a fantastic effort by the opponent. Can't wait to see the MSU vs UO game.

Great game by Marquette. Lots to learn from for State and it didn't cost them a loss. Too tired to look it up right now, but that feels like the most points we've given up since maybe UConn in 2016. Gonna be a rough set of practices for a few of the ladies.

Well at least this game will cool the sizzle of the MSU fans who were saying their team should be #2 or #3.
Will it? I hope so but...I learned a hard lesson lately thinking people would/had changed....

This Marquette team when hot could probably take down a lot of ranked teams tonight

Issue is its tough to shoot like this on a routine basis. A few kids shot out of their minds tonight.

I think MSU is definitely a top 5 team at this point, not sure about #2, but the Oregon matchup will tell us a lot. The Mchoward combo is a scary matchup. Other players will have to continue to step up and improve, which I am sure they will.

Danberry and Bibby weren't particularly sharp tonight. Both were missing lots of open shots, Danberry was turning it over as well.

There are things MSU obviously have to clean up, especially on the defensive end, but its only the beginning of December. Vic will have this team in a much better place by February.

I do think this type of game is good for them though, handling being down in the 4th quarter in a tight game will help down the road.
