Marquette (18) @ Mississippi St (6) - 12/06/18

Damn SEC network....I don't have it. Should be a great game and a practice test for MSU before Oregon. Marquette is good and I do not think Vic is taking this game lightly. Go Warriors! oops ...er Golden Eagles

Another good test for the bulldogs.
Eh, not really. Marquette will have no one to match up against McCowan. Huge mismatch on the inside.

They are a much more quality team compared to the first part of the season for MSU is what I meant

If you have ESPN, you should be able to stream is on ESPN3. I have it cued up, really looking forward to it.

True that. Expect a competitive 1st Qtr and then a steady progression to a 20+ pt win.

Unless I'm mistaken.

Vic ain't gonna be happy

23 points in a quarter

If Howard shoots like that from deep its going to open up a lot of room inside

Marquette is a scary team. I remember quite a few of these Marquette players from 3-years ago, when they beat Oregon State @ OSU.

Marquette has some fast and quick ladies, but they are piling up the fouls because of their short stature.

Marquette 23-22, MSST being out hustled, did not expect that.

Nope, he's pissed.

Gonna go out on a limb and say Marquette won't still be shooting better than 70% at the end of this game. Active 1st qtr. Lotta fouls. 8 for the Eagles could be a problem.

I remember watching that game too. They were really unheralded at the time, but would go on to gain a top 25 ranking and beat DePaul 3 times that season, all in close games, to win the Big East. They earned a #5 seed but lost in the 1st round to Quinnipiac.

Edit to add: But I'm pretty sure that was 2 years ago, when Blockton, Hiedeman et al. were sophomores.

It is on ESPN3

Marquette looks quicker than MSST, this looks like a real battle so far, Marquette much better than I thought, how did Miami beat these guys?

This will be one of those games where you will see if this team can hang in there and grind out a win. The team last year could do that, but we'll find out tonight if this team can.

Marquette leading in 2nd , but fouls piling up on them. They are aggressive. And that McCowan is BIG

.-.
Marquette's quickness is posing a lot more trouble for MSU than I expected, but they can't stop fouling. Hiedeman already picked up her 3rd early in 2Q. Doesn't bode well for them. That and the fact that no one on their team is taller than McCowan's shoulders.

A lot of dumb passes by MSU. They aren't moving the ball either, lot of standing around.

Defense has been lazy as well at times.

Marquette playing with much more energy right now

State losing 38-30. Not putting McCowan in the right situatuons to be successful. She needs to be getting a low post catch every time. Andra also should be in there stretching the floor.

Marquette 38-30,they are kicking out butt, short guys shooting the lights out and hustling everywhere.

Vic is good at making in game adjustments. We will see what the second half holds. I've seen his teams get down before and come back during the second half. One of the reasons I was holding my assessment of this team is because I wanted to see how they would react to this kind of a situation. I'm still looking for that one player that will take over when this happens (like Vivians).

MSU woke up

Howard has really asserted herself tonight

Looking for Bibby to get more involved in the 2nd half

MSST 42-38, tough defense to get back. Marquette came to play, this game far from over.

Definitely the best team we've faced so far, but I love the way we finished. If we can score in bunches like that, I'll be optimistic about the rest of the season.

Howard is a beast. Period. Have her in for the rest of the game... it's clear that their weakness is the frontcourt, and they've committed so many rebounding fouls already. Force them to keep doing that, we'll eventually win by McCowan getting fouled incessantly on rebounds. I have confidence that's how we'll win this game if we can force them into severe foul trouble. We've fouled a lot, but they fouled even more and their roster will get thinner.

Not happy with the turnovers and our middle of the court being so soft and so easy to exploit, but I love how we didn't commit a foul in the last 4 minutes of the 2nd quarter. We had 4 fouls, the next one would've sent them to the line, and we never gave up another one.

Good half by the dogs, but the first time we've had adversity so far. How we respond to it will reveal if we're a championship team or not.

Vic calls timeout with 2:50 to go in the half after MU runs out to a 38-30 lead. Dogs close half on a 12-0 run to lead 42-38. Guards weren't ready for this challenge out of the gate, but they are now.

MU with 15 fouls in the 1H. Will be a major issue as McCowan is going to see the ball a ton in the 2nd. Entertaining game!!
