March General CBB Discussion Thread

None of them scheduled as bad as Miami(OH) is my point. I’m not asking for them to play a murderers row. Just play one game against someone with a pulse instead of 3 D2 games. Almost everyone else did it. There were only 8 teams with a worse schedule
Just to be clear, if you replace one of the D2 games with a top team you're talking about a difference in WAB of 22nd vs 26th. And maybe 340th in OOC SOS. It is a very arbitrary line to draw

It’d still suck. My point is I call bs on they couldn’t get 1 decent team to play them OOC. Me applying the minimal expectation shows the ridiculousness of their schedule. And again I’m not asking for a top team.

Now replace all 3 D2 teams

But lots of teams in history have had that low a SOS, every year actually. None go undefeated…correct? So it’s unprecedented.

A MAC team every year probably had it, just never goes undefeated. They’re still playing teams in their leagues and winning.
Sure. And in a room full of kindergarteners I’m the tallest. So what? You didn’t beat anybody. Win your tournament.

To illustrate, Look at one of the formerly “undefeateds”: Vanderbilt.

Goes 6-7 in their last 13, still ranked.
Vandy was a bit of an outlier - bamboozled voters for a bit being undefeated with a couple decent wins.

I guess if people were choosing players to play in a basketball tournament, and you were the tallest amongst kindergartners, you’d get chosen. Because you’re the tallest. Same as Miami. Of all the choices, they have the requisite resume to get chosen to play basketball against the taller guys.

And right now you're arguing that I shouldn't pick you for my basketball team despite you being really tall to take the short fat old guy who's been playing in some men's leagues

.-.
So they didnt fear losing to 359 other Div 1 teams? It doesn’t track to me. You’d have to take him at his word. And it seems convenient. They didn’t fear losing to Akron? Who was widely seen as a good mid major heading into the season. Yall believe that if yall want lol. Not one team? Come on lmao
It's not easy to know who will or will not be good. UConn has had that problem, scheduled teams that were decent only to find they stink the year we play them. In any event, it doesn't matter. A team that goes undefeated in the regular season deserves a bid more than a team that loses more than a dozen games. Auburn lost at home to a crappy Ole Miss team.

Not sure if this one can use its own thread. Zags over UConn is rich. Nova 6 to UConn 14?

I keep seeing Auburn brought up. I’m not advocating for Auburn. Seton Hall was my case study

No I’m arguing you invite the other actua tall guy who’s actually shown he can compete and beat the guys in your league(Seton Hall). The guy who is tallest in the class of kindergarteners isn’t actually tall. He’s just surrounded by kindergarteners lmfao

They knew the 3 D2 teams wouldn’t be good. Why are we excusing this lmao

What do you see better about SHs resume? Their Maui win vs NCSt? Auburn has done a ton of losing, but they have a couple very good wins.
I don’t know Auburns resume. I’m not advocating for them. They may but they have nothing to do with what I’m saying.

Seton Hall is not even in the conversation right now, they don't even show up on the bubble watch lists anymore

They would if they had Miami(OH) schedule. Case Closed lol

You know what. Give them an at large bid. And make them an 8/9 seed in the south.

I wanna see something.

I’m switching sides to team at large Miami(OH)

No, they wouldn't. The average bubble team would be expected to be 26-3 and Miami OH's schedule, and Seton Hall is even worse than the average bubble team. So they would not be in the at large conversation with 4+ losses

This is a philosophical discussion more than anything. Do you reward the MM for excellence against sup par competition, or do you reward the HM for mediocrity against strong competition? Tis the question.

You think SH would have 4 losses with Miami(OH) schedule? Good lord.

Have you seen their schedule?

Miami had Wally Szczerbiak who used to have some weird anti-UConn thing. Good enough reason to want them out

Yes, I've looked at their schedule about 15 times today alone. It is VERY difficult to go undefeated over an entire 31 game season
That isn’t why I asked. You said you don’t believe SH would be at least 26-3 with that schedule, I think that’s absurd.

Definitely not. Don’t think the thoughts of a UK fan needed to be shared at all. Pretty sure you recently posted some stupid tweet from this guy saying UConn wasn’t one of the 5 bluebloods.
Matt Norlander is a UK fan?
