You are mixing two topics, accomplishments and player level/skills.

I have never seen a better player than Clark. As good as there has ever been as a player.

Will she ever accomplish as much as Taurasi and others whilat she is at Iowa as other stars did at UConn or their school? No. Not close (though getting Iowa to the finals basically by yourself is not bad).

I disagree. She is Curry-esque and has as good or better offensive skills as anyone who has played. I don't care about stats, just watching her play and her dominance on the court.

Curry has a mid range jumper Caitlin does not.

Caitlin is a great offensive player but she has two moves a 3 and driving to the basket for a layup.

From what I have seen she is lights out from everywhere although most shots are 3s back to NBA 3 range and drives to hoop. Plus an incredible passer and court vision. An offensive complete force....

I thought it might be a good idea with all the talk of Diana vs Catlin to review Diana's exploits in the 2003 Championship game...and others to follow.

The "folks tale" about that game and season is that D lead a young, inexperienced and not overly talented squad to a Natty, virtually singlehandedly; defeating (potentially) a (far?) superior team...maybe settle for superior.

The reality: The UConn kids were certainly younger...no seniors but a really first-class group to which if you attached a super-star, you had a helluva team...

Jr guard Maria Conlon...the only upperclassman along with D, was an adept point (no turnovers) and was in the process of establishing her rep as an excellent 3-point shooter.

The Sophs Jessica Moore and Ashley Battle and the
Freshman: Ann Strother, Barbara Turner and Willnet Crocket, were fearless and gifted...Strother had a great scoring game and was anointed the next great...If she fell a little short (in future seasons) it was because she didn't have a Diana to take the pressure and responsibility off her...

So, by no means was this a mediocre group and putting an all time great along side them was enough to put them over the top.

I submit that in toto. though a bit undersized, they were a slightly better team than UTenn...which was confirmed by their two wins and the championship...

The next season, with exactly the same group (why no freshman?) and against a lesser UTenn team, the results were duplicated.

The only conclusion I can put forth at this time is that in 2003, D was remarkable, amazing, unstoppable, but that then kids around her were hardly chopped matzah.

I can only speak for myself, but I haven't forgotten about Plum. Pretty sure no UW fan ever will. Probably the entirety of wbb fans in Pac 12 country still remember her quite well. Not to mention that after an adjustment period, she is currently thriving in the WNBA and on the international stage.

I’m kidding you. But your standard is ridiculous. One player, not Taurasi, not Moore, not Stewart, nor any other great player can single-handedly do a damn thing to win a title . I can make a case that Clark has brought her team to accomplish something few other players could bring a similar group of teammates to do. Unlike UConn and virtually all other national champs, the Iowa roster is not stacked with three or more very highly regarded high school players. Good for sure, but not a single other one that can step in and worry other good teams They need Clark to play great every game to be beyond average. UConn was viewed as a possible NC this year without Paige and with a banged up group. Without Clark Iowa was maybe a bubble team.

Pronouncing Clark as only behind DT as the GOAT is probably siily. Requiring her to gain a special status only if her team wins a championship is a standard that ignores a lot of factors on how a team wins a title, including what the competition is and how teammates play. Della Donne was never going to win a college NC at Delaware. I need to have it explained how that changed her individual greatness.

Good question, Nan... I'll answer, and hopefully Hoops, Meyers and a few others who diss Clark can answer, too.

I've been a fan of Iowa for many years, my second favorite team after the Huskies, and Caitlin's arrival really caught my interest in the fall of '20. I would estimate I've seen her play 40 to 50 of her college games, plus some of her USA team games, and that would include all of the Hawkeyes' numerous Big Ten tournament games, and the NCAA games for three years, for which Iowa has an 8-3 record.

I'd say that would give me a reasonable perspective on Caitlin's quality as a player, and also the strides she's made over the three seasons.

She is so much more than some of you credit her for, and those who compare her to players like Iverson, come on? You embarrass yourselves. I'd be as thrilled as anyone to see Paige come back as healthy and gifted as ever, but that still wouldn't take away from my amazement and joy of watching the accomplishments and greatness of Caitlin Clark.

By the way, Nan, I'll never forget Stiles, Ionescu or Delle-Donne... I wish we had the chance to see the latter play more in college and now, I suppose, even in the WNBA.

Oh, yeah, Maple, I have seen Caitlin do just that, and more than once. the myth that she either doesn't play defense or doesn't hustle on defense is just that. What happened vs. LSU wasn't within her control. The team plan dictated she keep her distance from three-point shooters, plus she was early saddled with fouls. That team plan didn't age well, did it?
