After watching Caitlin Clark have a 41 point triple double the other night Magic Johnson said that C.C. was the second best player in the history of WCBB behind Diana Taurasi..pretty high praise for DT coming from Magic

Caitlin could even surpass Diana in some respects
Perhaps not in the super aggressive and competitive aspects...But close.

It's interesting, most of the best players went to great programs where they have to play within a system with other great players, cutting down on the Hero-ball abilities. You take any of Tennessee, UConn, South Carolina, Notre Dame stars in the last few years and imagine they'd be similar individual stars.

Barring catastrophic injury, I'd be surprised if, twenty years from now, we don't routinely think of Caitlin as one of the GOATs in WBB, college and pro. Not winning an NC, if that's what happens to her, will seem less damaging to her reputation then. On the other hand, if she engineers an upset this week and actually takes Iowa all the way, I think we'll start talking about her as one of the GOATs in WCBB even now.

And, just by the way, I'd make a case for Stewie as the GOAT even over Diana.

I’m not saying she isn’t a great player and the player this year but to compare her second to taurasi is ridiculous
Your opinion. Mine is closer to Magic. She is close to unstoppable and has great court vision and like Diana is worth the price of admission. Like Diana, she often has the ball in her hands and controls a lot of the way her team succeeds and what the opposition is forced to do. Obviously others are in the discussion, but she is not out of it either.

Yes to all of it. One thing about Clark and Taurasi, that Diana is certainly in the top few, but the number of really impactful players are many more in this era when Clark is playing. The kids who are in college today mostly weren’t born when Diana played at UConn, but were attracted to play hoops because of how Diana and UConn drew attention to the sport whether the modern players realize it or not. Hint to a few writers. UConn was good for the game the way Tiger Woods was good for golf. Got people, and importantly, young people interested in the game and got TV execs interested.

DT, Moore and Breanna Stewart are ahead of Clark in my mind.

Those three can bring her team to the NC. Can Clark? BTW I am hoping Iowa to beat South Carolina and wins the 2023 NC .

I say, let her win something first, then we can talk about her greatness.

You have
DT with 3 NC's / 3 AAs / 2 NPOYs
Moore with 2 NC's / 4 AAs / 3 NPOYs
Stewart with 4 NC's / 3 AAs / 3 NPOYs

And that's just UCONN. Parker, Holdsclaw, Miller

Just relax, we'll see how she ends up this year. And then she's got another year to build on her resume. Right now she's JUST getting into (and not there yet) the Griner, Wilson, Augustus level.

Great analysis...

If Caitlin doesn’t win a national championship I doubt we will be talking about her as one of the greatest women college players. People seem to already forget what Sabrina did three years ago or what Plum did her senior year.

Memory,
On February 25, 2017, Plum scored a career-high 57 points on senior night – making 19 of the 28 shots she took – to break the NCAA Division I women's basketball all-time scoring record with 3,397 points.

On the 03-04 teams: I'll grant that no player but DT could have brought those teams to a championship. But Moore, Strother, Turner, and Battle all played in the WNBA between 2 and 5 years. Not top players in the league, but you can't be an average college player and last a few WNBA years. And Maria Conlon had some tremendously clutch moments.

Don’t agree. That’s like saying Ohtani isn’t among the top few greatest players of all time. These are team sports and in team sports if the competition is very good a great player alone can’t make them beat everyone but can take a team that would not be in contention to be in contention.
He's not yet. You have to be great, win, and do it for an extended time to be in contention for GOAT talk.

Having a great year or a great couple years, don't get you GOAT status.

Magic is trying to put Clark above Stewart/Moore/Holdsclaw/Parker/Miller.

Heck, right now, Clark is on the Stiles level. AA and gonna win NPOY and got her team to FF. That's it so far.
