OT: Luke's Dad's best movie

I love Bill Murray but he was the worst part of Caddyshack. That movie would've sucked if not for Ted Knight and Rodney.

Ted Knight was so damn good.

I'd tell you to have a Snickers, but maybe better advice would be that those aren't Baby Ruths you've been snacking on.

From reviewing the answers in this thread, you could have argued, "'Caddyshack' was so good that it showed as the most-favored choice, even though Bill Murray was the worst part of the movie."

I guess Judge Smails made quite an impression on you.

Definitely a fan of his early stuff - Stripes, Ghostbusters, Caddyshack.

Can't stand any of the stuff he did with Wes Anderson. I'd rather push a pencil up my nose than watch those films.

All the Wes Anderson's are good - Rushmore, especially.

Groundhog Day, Lost in Translation, Ghostbusters, all good.

Best movie he's in: Ghostbusters (Caddyshack second--agree with SJ; apart from Gunga Galunga he doesn't give one of the standout performances)

Best "Bill Murray" movie: Groundhog Day (he carries it)

One movie I haven't seen mentioned is Broken Flowers. Great soundtrack and he's excellent in it. And Luke's brother Homer has a short cameo at the end. But that ranks about 30th on the list--that's how good his ouevre is.

Stripes, Caddyshack, and Ghostbusters were all pillars of my youth. Love 'Bob and Groundhog Day, too.

All 3 if those low budget movies are fantastic. And he's good in all of them. The supporting cast for Broken Flowers is amazing.

By the way, he's also excellent in a recent movie called On The Rocks, even if the movie isn't great. He has a great lead role in it as a carousing father.

Yes, it is certainly worth the watch. Very light hearted fare. But entertaining.

It's really a father-daughter relationship movie.

But excellent acting and funny, which allowed me to get over the light drama.
 
I think it’s Groundhog Day. I just rewatched that movie on Groundhog Day and it’s just an amazingly underrated film.

When you consider that he was probably stuck in that loop for 30-40 years and noticing a few other philosophical things it’s pretty deep.

Also The Life Aquatic is probably one of my all time favorites.

To this day I still crack up when Steve says “I’m in the middle of a lightning strike rescue op”

Ted Knights’s performance is good enough for a best actor award imo.
