I'm a bit baffled by those who keep bringing up Bill Murray's wealth.

Yes, there are quite a few people out there who have no issues living off family money. There also are some who have a very strong desire to achieve on their own, who don't want anyone viewing them as merely the product if wealth.

In order to get as far as he currently has, I highly doubt that Luke is anything other than an achiever. That he is someone who wants the world to know he doesn't need daddy's money to get by.

That's not what we're saying. Just that his family wealth and million dollar salary allow him to wait for the right job. He's already wealthy all by himself. He should be selective as hell given his current situation.

There's also people who aren't motivated by money. The BC job looks like a total loser to me compared to say the Charleston job if you take out money being your biggest motivator.
 
If Luke wins 4 more conference games BC could get a bid. MSU got a play in game with an 8-10 AAC record. Win 5 or 6 more and he’s in the tournament. With a decent NIL commitment he can do it. I think he can do it.

And for decades no one in NYC gave a crap about SJU hoops, trust me I live here. The point was that there was a fan base that was comatose and they awoke. I am not saying that BCU will be filling TD Garden any time soon (if ever) but Conte could be full and rocking very quickly.

I don't think that's really it. Moore wanted to retire, but Hurley knew he was great at schmoozing, fundraising, and recruiting and the team needed a GM so he asked him to stay as the GM in an easier role.
 
The Charleston job opening was definitely a wrench in this process. It sounds like Luke is being considered there per Trilly (with a few other good names like the coach of Furman we just beat), so then he has to make the choice. At the worst, it helps his leverage with getting up BC on NIL. If BC doesn't get the bread up, he can either take Charleston or turn it down.

SJU has hedge fund managers and bankers that went to Ivy League schools that want a big time program to back. They will find a way to write off their NIL contributions as entertainment expenses so the government is picking up half the cost anyway. SJU has benefited more from Alston and House than just about any program in the country.

The Big East schools depend on non-alums and local corporations to fund their basketball. Does anyone think Seton Hall’s alumni have any cash to help that program?
 
Charleston makes a ton sense. His dad has a home there. A modest improvement will get him to the NCAA. And he can work out of the spot light as he builds the programs.

There is always a risk in any career move. The risk for Luke here is if he doesn't receive the necessary resources he may not be able to accomplish much if anything. If that happens it would be a major setback to his career.

Mike Repole has as much to do with St John's resurgence as Pitino. He's a billionaire who loves his sports interests and "little hobbies" and it fully on board with making SJU a power again.

Of course there's Seton Hall alumni who have piles of cash. Geoge Kurtz pile is around $8 billion. It doesn't mean they're going to put that money into basketball or that the loaded BC alumni are going to put their money towards basketball.

I do know St. John's has multiple alumni who are putting tons of cash into funding the St. John's basketball program.

I do love the idea of Ivy League grads looking around for a random team to cheer for and settling on St. John's.

I would say it's somewhere in between what Waylon is saying and what you're saving that no one gives a fig about St. John's basketball. They are selling out the Garden.

Also what my neighbors immediately to the east say in Darien and New Canaan. Except, they say it about UConn... but think it's Connecticut College in New London.

I get it. We all know the history. Fr. Leahy simply does not have interest in athletics. But as you said he's gone as of this summer. They've gone through a bunch of ADs since DeFilppo retired, probably because none of them could get the support they need. According to the alumni, the incoming President Butler sees things differently. He's from Atlanta, so probably grew up around college sports. The new AD came from U Miami.

I really doubt that Murray is going to get a better offer and I disagree with those saying CoC is a better job. The trend in NIL and the portal strongly disfavors the mid majors, and I'm not sure Charleston is even that. BC has the money and endowment to update Conte, and that would also benefit hockey in their case. He's a smart guy and he will have way more information to use in deciding than any of us have.

Here are the attendance figures for non-UConn games. Keep in mind, Pitino made a comment about the PC game being "50% PC fans" too.

This. It’s a city of 8.5M with a ton of corporate ticket buyers. The biggest games will be hot tickets but people shouldn’t confuse that with having a big loyal fan base.
