CCSU too. Last year was particularly egregious as they were by far the best team in that conference and choked in the championship game scoring only like 40 pointsQuinnipiac is cursed. They should have had at least three or four appearances in the big dance but they’ve lost in their conference tourney title game as the one seed multiple times, I think twice under Tom Moore.
I see nothing wrong with a mid-major conference protecting their top 2 seeds? They had the best seasons and you only get limited chances to get get at-large bids. The WCC tourney is a joke with that bracket. Talk about protecting your top 2 seeds.
It’s basically been the Gonzaga invitational for like 15+ years
I think it's less about mid-major and more about size of conference. We protect our top 2 as wellI see nothing wrong with a mid-major conference protecting their top 2 seeds? They had the best seasons and you only get limited chances to get get at-large bids.
I like when conference champs (or higher seeds) are rewarded in mid- and low-major conferences. It rewards the regular season, it gives less of a chance that there will be a bad bid-stealer, and results in the best chance to have the best team make the tournament.
Every bubble team should root for chalk in mediocre/bad conferences that have an at-large lock program. You can argue that Gonzaga has gotten a higher seed than they deserve in the past, but it's hard to argue they weren't a deserving team to make the tournament. So, if they had lost early, it just would've taken a bid away from a bubble team.
At least CCSU has gotten it done and made the dance a couple times.CCSU too. Last year was particularly egregious as they were by far the best team in that conference and choked in the championship game scoring only like 40 points
I disagree, a one round bye is OK. If you are going to do this, then just give the bid to the regular season winner. This tournament is joke.I see nothing wrong with a mid-major conference protecting their top 2 seeds? They had the best seasons and you only get limited chances to get get at-large bids.

So if that's the philosophy you want to go with (and by the way, I tend to agree), then:I see nothing wrong with a mid-major conference protecting their top 2 seeds? They had the best seasons and you only get limited chances to get get at-large bids.

At least CCSU has made three NCAA appearances this century. Quinnipiac is still waiting for their first and they have disappointed again despite starting the year as the preseason #1 on the MAAC coaches poll.CCSU too. Didn't it happen in the old Big East when they had the double bye for the top seeds? The coaches hated it.Wouldn't it be ironic if the WCC teams that had to play a game or two to get to the semi-final round knocked out the two teams that were sitting around for a week falling out of game shape?
Miami is in if their only loss is in conference tourney. Not quite as good as they used to be due to the portal, but these one bid leagues and their tourneys mean so much to them. Good fun to begin the madness. If Akron beats Miami do they still take Miami D'D'Oh? Think they have to and not add a pitiful Auburn team who are 15-14 and 7-11 in the league, even though an Auburn or alike is better. They just aren’t deserving of earning a birth.
Not sure how I missed this one. Now this is what I call a bracket. 7 wins in 7 days would be legendary. Thank you SBC!
It’s to protect the top seeds and reward them for their regular season playSouthland has 8 teams, an ideal quarterfinal, and they give double byes instead, makes no sense.
I understand why they do it, I don't agree with it. The reward for regular season play is playing the last place team. It’s to protect the top seeds and reward them for their regular season play
